Sites I recommend and use that have been helpful for me in the battlefield:

PoseManiacs (http://www.posemaniacs.com/)
One of the single most helpful sites in drawing a figure when you have no model present. The images are Flash based and with each pose you can view from every direction.

VectorTuts (http://vector.tutsplus.com/)
Good little helper for illustrator. It has tutorials, articles and some freebies

DesignM.ag (http://designm.ag/)
A really helpful blog for designers. It has a lot of freebies that can be used for practically anything.

Just in case anyone has it for their system or would like to try it out I propose we add:

GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/)

There is a good list of tutorials for using the program at this location here. (http://www.gimp.org/tutorials/) The tutorials are available for beginner, intermediate, expert, Web, script authoring and photo editing.

GIMP is a open-source program standing for GNU Image Manipulation Program. While originally designed for Linux systems, it is available for download for both Windows and Macs.

I use this at home as a Photoshop alternative.

...and for those of you with mommies and daddies (controlling spouses) who are adamantly against downloading things to your desktop I present you with SUMO Paint. (http://www.sumopaint.com/web/)

It's a handy dandy browser based "painting studio" where you can do nearly any range of art project online.
