Art fight discussion here...

GO!!

I think it should be piece against piece, and whichever one looks more awesome wins, and goes to round two... and do tiers. I think that would rock.

An alternative would be just one on one "fights" where one person challenges another, and everyone gives out points based on style, creativity, and overall wow factor.

To me it all sounds very much like a Contest, and we have a category for that. I don't think losing Showcase and WIP will hinder the fun atmosphere and ability to host Art fights, and I know that people are resistant to change, but the Contests category is lonely and needs love too.

Uh.

Ok here's an example of what is kind of being aimed for:
http://www.mojizu.com/

If anyone also bookmarked my fistycuffs site please post that because I don't have it anymore nor can I find it. :(

Contest section is small beans.

Art fight is kind of it's own monster that wants to be bigger and badder. I have plans crazy ass plans.

Here is another example sort of only these events take place in real life however there are adaptable rules there.

The Contests forum is underused. Why not just do it there?

MorganaFang

I guess it can go in contests. :p

But I'm going to throw in a plea that no more "what's he thinking" or stuff like that not resurface for awhile because they were pretty inane.

edit: I liked where you were going with the quest and boss stuff, is adding roleplaying elements to it (stats, abilities, crap like that) going to far out of the contest area?

I'm gonna go with prehistoric life, like dinosaurs, trilobites, saber-toothed cats, and the like.

How's about prizes?

I wanna research more into options but all and all I don't think I really know what people expect to get out of doing this kind of thing. Outside of outrageous fun!!!

I like the idea of designs for products but there are a few legal issues that would have to be looked into and that may be running before getting this baby to even walk. So I'm not strongly endorsing that.

Another idea is having character designs showcased, with an article and everything.

I'm just trying to generate real discussion so the first trial one isn't too much of a fail. :p

Maybe we could create a public ww.com album to showcase each new winner as they're picked? The comments section would allow for an article or discussion or whatever else.

Maybe before I start getting too excited I should see how many people are still interested in actually participating in an activity like this or if it's a lost cause?

Tempest

I'm interested, but whether or not I'd be able to participate depends on when this would get started. I have loads of free time right now, but come August I probably won't have much.

As far as challenges, I think it'd be cool to personify a phobia or design the perfect predator (thanks to the myth forum for that). I hope I'm getting the right idea.

I think a lot of people are in the same boat as you in terms of time and things. For myself, I can never predict when I get busy or not so I'm always willing to extend due dates.

I'm going to start up the test run today to see if that motivates more people and we'll just play everything by ear.

I kinda get the concept of an art fight and it seems really interesting, but I'm realy thrown off by the role playing elements that seem to be relavent. Can somebody please explain what exactly an art fight is?

Well right now the best I have is the sites I've posted. Basically you create character designs, then compete through doing challenges issued to draw or write. The ideal is the most dynamic character achieving the challenge beats out it's opponent. The people registered on this site will get to decide through voting which character is "fighting" the best.

It's not really doing a roleplay, I'm just thinking about borrowing the statistical and story aspects in order to give people who may not have the best art skills a chance to win once and a while. However I don't know how well that will work out either.

The first brawl we have is sort of an experiment for me to see how and if this can be pulled off. I'm learning as it goes so I hope by the end of it I will have a clearer set up of what I can do and "train" other game masters too.

Even more inspiration! This person here (http://community.livejournal.com/artfight/) is trying to develop their own site for art fights, so please don't steal stuff from them if they have original ideas.

The layout of rules is nearly exact to the basic layout of how I'm thinking these art brawls should roll.

Maybe to add some deviation we offer not only the character designs but as I've stated before the characters dealing with a challenge.

So say two people are picked to duke it out, their challenge is to be drawn with an ultimate weapon! A banana! This way we could keep re-occurring characters for battles.

Amount of fights will accumulate levels for characters, not artists. If you start a new character they're at fresh start.

I really see where you are coming from Genna, and to be honest, I'm really looking forward to the next art fight. I know that my first submissions wasn't nearly as good I could do due to having it be a test run so that I would know what to expect on the next go around.

As for prizes, I've got a pretty neat idea. How about badges be made (online badges of course) that we could have in a section of our profile to show how well we've done in battle?

I really like the idea of having creation go against creation rather than piece going against piece. I say this because I'm one of those people that don't really get much of a kick in doing backgrounds and whatnot, but creating a center piece to duke it out with others is always fun for me.

So, c'mon guys, let's keep the ideas flowing!

I'd be good with superheroes/villains for the next one.

Not that I have an idea or anything. <_<

Don't feel bad Chriz. You should see what I'm currently drawing...>_>

Then again, my new creation isn't exactly what you'd call a "superhero" or "villain". However, we should have set dates or something when it comes to art brawl themes so that we might be able to think ahead and get our creative minds organized, unless that would be "too easy" to allow for more than a certain amount of time to finish ones characters.

Extending on the superhero idea, maybe the next challenge could be "draw yourself as a superhero or supervillain". The character would have the player's own username. It'd be fun to think about what superpowers you'd have if you were a superperson, and what your costume would look like.

That's actually a neat idea too. Where we can have contests of members fulfilling art challenges. People could do not only drawings but also photo portraits of themselves if they felt so bold.

***

If chriz has has his idea ready for art brawl, I'd like to get one rolling again tomorrow. Give people a week to put together a submission and all of that.

I think while it's summer we may just stick with having the "everyone vs everyone" for now. Unless people would be interested in doing teams or tournament style.

"Everyone vs Everyone" is just all around easier and faster.

The way I'm thinking of setting up tournament style is we have an intro post where all the people submitting to to the brawl show images of their characters. These images wouldn't count so much for votes I'll just use them as a show if people are capable of competing and they would also show to the audience what characters are playing.

Then at random characters will start out one against one. You'll do an image of your character in battle completing the challenge. The winners will move onto the next round against each other. New challenge, another new image submission and it keeps going until the end.

People will still vote for winners. This is just a more involved way of doing art fight.

The more basic route is just have one image progress. So character A vs character B, character A wins moves on to be against character C. Same images.

The more basic tournament probably is going to appeal to more people. :p

I don't have any specific idea in mind...

Edit: Oh, I see what you mean. I just meant I had an idea for a supervillain, but it wouldn't work right with Tempest's proposal. But that's ok, I might sit the next one out anyway.

Was I supposed to propose the idea because I won the last one?

Yeah but it's ok you don't have anything. We can go with Temp's idea or just leave it more broad theme of superhero/villians.

Ok I lied. For the next week and half I'm going to have to out this on hold but I welcome others to do more art related contests.

Tempest, you can even you own art thing for the member super heroes.
