So yeah, this is coming out August 13 in the US, Canada and some places in Europe. It's based on this series of graphic
novels:

The last volume of which, just came out on 7/20.

I was lucky enough to see this film on Friday in advance of the theatrical release, and I have to say, for fans of the comics, I think it will be VERY satisfying (although at the time I saw it, I had not yet read books 5 & 6.) For people who don't know anything abotu the film or graphic novels, it's sort of an offbeat pastiche of classic gaming (think Mario & Zelda,) alt-rock, and manga-inspired martial arts influences. But behind all that spectacle is a rather poignant story of romance and, well, growing up.

I personally think everyone should see it in theaters when it comes out. And I look forward to hearing what other people think about the film.

Roughly what percentage of the audience was pretentious hipster kids?

I saw it at Comic-Con, so it was roughly 100% nerdy dudes & ladies (some of whom probably were pretentious I guess.) I just assume hipsters don't like SP anymore since it "sold out."

RE the differences between the film and the GNs: there are very few. A few things are moved around, combined, and only a few are cut altogether. But almost all of it makes sense. I wish we had spoiler tags so I could talk about specifics for folks who are interested, but I don't want to spoil it for everyone else.

Also, in the panel for Scott Pilgrim I attended the day before the screening I saw (they showed it 3 times at SDCC,) I have to say Edgar Wright & Michael Cera were consistently and spontaneously hilarious. The film was definitely in good hands with Wright and this cast.

Also, I now love Allison Pill.

I am so glad I got to read the comics before I saw the movie! It made the movie that much more special than it already was on its own. It was like a throwback to my childhood with every sound effect, and the jokes were greaaaat! ^^

Saw it today, I loved it!

You know, I didn't even know what I was getting myself into (since I didn't watch TVs or often movie theaters) I am pretty nerdy (video games, role play: larp, table top) But I could see my parents (who are far from nerdy) Finding some hummer to it)

I want to talk about it too but again don't want to spoil!

Saw it some week or so ago, I liked the tone of the movie, seems original in what it did, read the comic books after that, because I just get hooked on stuff like that, and it's pretty cool too...I'm still getting over the music, I think I liked the sound they got in this movie too much to be considered healthy, but hey, another thumbs up to go watch it...
