Long ago there was a war between the light and dark forces of nature.
Demons fought with Angels and spilt blood into the ground.
The magic in the earth and the blood of the demigods mixed creating two new beings. From the demonic blood there grew vampires, dark creatures who feed on blood to survive and are hurt by the sun. From the Angelic blood grew humans, whose close relation to the celestial world granted them the power to wield magic. A practice they refer to as sorcery.

Over time the races have waged many, many wars. But for almost 10,000 years there has been peace. It is even true that not all vampires are evil, nor all humans good. In some cases the two have found romance, though there children are often shunned or pitied by the the rest of the worlds ignorance.

Now however to the leaders of each of these races there has come a demigod.

The dark angel Mystaakina has appeared to the Vampire Coven Leader
and an angel of the light, Amaastacia has appeared to the human King. Both gave this message.

"The time for peace has ended. The war between angels and demons has come to a halt to keep this world alive. Instead vampires and humans will once again wage war, for the fate of the world. So it has been decided so it shall be. I will be available to you in your time of need, only call on me for advice and I will seek you out"

Note the demi gods and messengers are NPC played by me. Thankyou.

Along the snow covered streets people where rushing here and there as sunset approached. Only the foolish, the brave, the stupid or the disbelieving allowed themselves to be out after sundown. Word still had not gone around yet, not to everyone, about the war. The war that had picked back up again, a war that Rayn’s family had never ceased, only went to hiding their work. A simple, yet elegant black carriage drawn by a team of six white horses made its way along the roads. And from its warm interior a young looking girl sat and watched the world outside.

A world she was both apart of and separate. A world she had once had the chance to be fully emerged in. Where she would only ever have to worry about what dress to wear to what function, who’s shop had the best quality and price. And the only worrying she would do was for that of the family who had chosen this self same path she had chosen.

But now she rarely appeared in that world and when she did people whispered. Her family history was well known, the fact that they still played with the undead was only rumor. Her days now where filled honing her skills, learning as much as she could to add to her knowledge and seeking out the lairs of those she sought. Her nights? Many where spent walking head long into danger, playing the bait, the temping, oh so delectable bait that turned upon the hunter and forced them to become the hunted. Few of the scourge had ever seen her true face, and those that had where dead.

Just as the last of the sun rays lit the snow a fire, the carriage pulled in front of her family manor. Stepping from it with out aid, Rayn strode across the courtyard and into her home.

Her father greeted her as she entered. “daughter, it is good to see that you have returned well and whole. Though I do wish you would try to -”

“To meet a nice boy? Father come now, We both know the only young man who will ever do would have to be a part of our world, I would not steal such innocence away.” Rayn interrupted, pulling her hair free of its constraints “And until one presents himself I will spend as many days as I please crawling in the dust and the dirt and getting my nose into places a shouldn’t if it means one less undead walks the earth.”

“Well I was going to say take a day off some times dear.” he laughed. “However I would have gotten around to that eventually. And you are right, sense we no longer need hide our work from other humans we can certainly accomplish more.”

Rayn nodded her agreement to her father. Sense her mothers death he had treated her as an equal. And sense her sisters death, her turning, her had made sure she knew she was loved, she was treasured. He understood her bloodthirsty need for vengeance, and the fear that drove it all. “Father has the king called us to him yet? I mean I Know we received a letter from the palace informing us that we may once again legally hunt the vampire if we so wish. However in all our histories was the family not invited a least once a year to his palace?”

Her father laughed at this. “Do you need the king to directly command you Rayn? Do you need the prestige of going to the palace?”

“Papa! You know that is not what I meant. I simply meant there must be reason we were invited before, why not now?”

I do not know , times have changed. Quickly now the sun sets.” Rayn simply nodded and hastened to her room to get ready for the coming night.

Character Name: Rayn Lyn Ashbrook

Character Age and Gender :Female at 22 years of age

Brief Character Bio: Rayn was born into a family that never quite gave up the hunt for vampires. Meaning she was trained sense she was strong enough to hold a blade. Not to mention smart enough to know the tip of a blade from the pommel, on how to track, fight and hunt this creature that was far more powerful than she. She was bourn into a family that is truly human, but was some call magic handlers. And this above all else, gave them the edge they needed to survive. With each child of the ashbrook tree there are different abilities. In Rayn's case her element, the thing in which she draws her strength is sunlight. Her abilities included Transmutation, of herself and objects, healing and the ability to create chants for different things through songs and ruins. Of course with every task of the magical kind comes a toll, meaning it is true that she could over do it and kill herself. For once a magic handlers store of power has run out it pulls upon their very life force.

When she was but 15 summers old she witnessed the brutal murder of her mother at the hands of vampires and the turning of her older sister. It was this that forced her to make her choice at the age of 17 summers, to pick up the family honor, the burden, or forsake it all. The choice was in fact no choice at all and Rayn came into the full mantel of her power. it is known that prolonged use of large quantity of magic by humans extend their life spans so she has plenty of time to even the score a bit does she not?

Outside of her past and what she is, Rayn herself is much like nature itself. One moment she is sweet, loving and caring but cross her and you have a tempest on your hands. She loves music, and dance, though she rarely gets to use either outside her profession. Part of her longs to be free, free of choices that are truly no choice at all. Free from fear and free from pain. But there are only two kinds of escape like that and both end in death do they not?

Character description

Long blond hair falls down her back, framing long lithe limbs and the curves of a dancers. It is most often down or at least covering the back of her neck where vampire bite scarred. Skin a healthy golden color with her family crest inked into her left arm, a red mark of warning to those who know its meaning. Shiny scars mar the perfection of her back where a vampire had decided to teach her a lesson with the whip, she carries matching ones on each of her wrists. Green eyes, forever changing with her moods, stare out at you with the caution of both hunter and hunted. A shadow of a smile dances on her lips, as if she laughs at a joke at the worlds expense. Her clothing changes from day to day. *

This is a post from your friendly neighborhood moderator.

Grammar, spelling, and a character that is not the mary-sue of descriptions are all good things to have. Please put them in this thread.

Thank you.

(OOCP:Allow me to join you milady:beerchug:)

The nights here were ever so sweet, but regardless there were animals about fouling the air under his nose, the sky was black the glittering of stars was all but enough to make his night.

On most nights he'd sit in silence passing through the night air as nothing but a slight breeze he'd watch as mongrels wrestled their prey to the ground, no sense of honor, no true sense of the hunt, they didn't even bother to enjoy the moment it was brutal, quick, messy, and most importantly empty. He despised those that lowered his kind to mere hungry beasts often finding himself weeding them out, but he'd never lower himself to their methods, a more artful stroke was employed.

He was Nikolai Vernon.
***************************
Character:Nikolai Vernon
age:445 (was turned when he was twenty five)

General Description: Nikolai was a man of nobility, his auburn hair and defined frame were all that he beleived truely belonged to him, but his imperfections nagged at him every time he looked into the mirror his eyes were of two different colours a steeley grey and icy blue. Vanity was his vice taking great care to look his best in all aspects, but his mind was twisted to begin with, a hatred infected his heart like a festering splinte. At first it was simple his own frailties driving him to do better be better, until he was better. At the end of all his hard work he saw that he elevated himself above all others and began seeing others the same way he used to look upon himself, in his attempt to rectify this he found himself in the clutches of a vampire, and was soon one himself. His mind continued to twist his hatred began to manifest in murders feeding and hunting were like an art, his own twisted mind forcing him to perfect every flaw and destroy those imperfect creatures. He fed off only the beautiful yet allowing them to live, while the ugly were found often dronwing in blood, not worth feeding on. His code of conduct was iron clad he had built this in his minds as the ideal way of unlife, this drove him to kill even his own kind simply because they didn't fit the example he followed, he had a reputation Nikolai the Narcissist both humans and vampires had their rumours but he didn't really care 'he was perfect'

abilities:his advanced age provided him more power than the average vampire, the ability to pass through partial barriers like fences bars and gates, he can see through the eyes of ravens, his strength his more than enough to wrestle down some of the strongest of men, and his speed and agility allow him to move quickly and quietly having this obsessive need for perfection he has relentlessly pursued ways to improve his skills in all things beautiful, thusly he weilds a sword something recently picked up due to the brewing war so his skills are not as polished as his charm or linguistic abilities. Accompanying this practice he commissioned a cane housing a blade inside a bit more elegant than conventional weapons but sharp enough to do it's job.

***********************************

Finding himself strolling casually across a roof top Nikolai took a slow deep breath breathing in the sweet smell of beauty as it approached and the foul odor stalking by afterward made his blood boil, a curl of his lips and a show of fangs he swept into the street eyes fixed on his target it roared into veiw about to tackle the beauty only to find Nikolai gripping his throat tightly.

"You're-" Nikolai gripped tighter with a slight grin growing across his face "Ni-n-nik" he was trying to choke out the words but Nikolai would squeeze everytime he tried.

"You should try subtlety, works wonders." With a quick twist of his free hand he freed the blade from his can and stepped away with a clean arc, avoiding being sparyed by the blood, and slicing it's head free from it's body leaving just Nikolai and his beauty.

Rayn reached her room and stripped out of her clothing easily enough. By day she generally dressed as lady after, but at night, unless she was playing bait at a formal function, she preferred something that allowed more room. With the help of her ladies maid Alba, she soon found herself fitted into a green bodice and a long flowing skirt, among its folds a slit from hem to waist was hidden. Beneath she wore tight britches and boots. To anyone watching her she looked the image of a lady however, one who intended to go out on the town. Alba braided and plaited her hair back from her face, the braids giving way to curls to fall down her back.

Choosing a cloak of deep red, Alba helped her fasten it over her bare shoulders. Too her legs they strapped her knives,. They were simple, beautiful things, they had been her sisters. “Why you look the picture of a lady , miss.”

“That’s fitting Alba, seeing that I am one.” she laughed. “You are dismissed until I return home. Remember. No one we do not know is allowed within these walls and they must be tested with the sunstone. Are we clear Alba?” Rayn Asked, her tone sweet.

“Of course, you have only been telling me sense you knew what a sunstone was, and I have only been doing it sense you where no taller than my knee girl. Go on with ye, and take care!’ Alba ordered, pushing out the door.

Rayn made her way through her home and outside into the cold night air. Boarding the coach she settled back into the furs. Soon she would be dropped off at some tavern or another and the hunt would continue. Because for Rayn, There was no beginning and the only end laid in one form of death or another.

((you are more than welcome to))

"What compelled a lady such as you to wander out this late at night.. you do know that these streets are perilous." His tongue wove together words akin to the brush strokes of an artist at work.

"Yes, but...." She stopped silent with a questioning look. "I could ask the same of you sir!" Her guard arose once more, though Nikolai could over power her there was no sport in it, such an ugly act was below him.

"That you could, but why question a helping hand?" He Extended a hand toward her gently "I would not want my efforts to go to waste, so I pray that you allow me to see you safely home this night." She took his hand and they walked together her eyes darting here and there nervously, Nikolai putting her at ease with a hand across her shoulder, he would feed well tonight.

Rayn soon found herself standing on Maple street, walking along in the snow toward the bright warmth of a tavern. there she would appear to be a simple , though beautiful maid. Vampires often hunted such places, preying upon the drunken fools there. She wasn't to concerned about waking along the street, the only kind of vampire that went around stalking his prey like some blood starved hound were the type she found easy to dispose of. Coming toward was a couple, a rather nervous, though beautiful young lady Rayn had met a tea a couple of times. The handsome man who was her escort she did not know however.

"Why hello there! I did not expect to see you out on such a night. Of all people to run into. How are you? Oh are you going to introduce me to your companion?" She asked, her voice sweet as honey. Perhaps it was overboard to suspect him a vampire, one couldn't tell by looking if they were playing human. Nor by scent. One had to catch them hunting or by other means. After all they had had years to practice blending in.

"W-well, umm." She was surprised by this womans greeting and Nikolai was quick to measure this new beauty. Different than the one he found himself preying upon this evening, dressed as a maid which didn't quite fit the mold, and those eyes.

"I am Nikolai, my dear has had quite shock this evening so forgive her current state." He just couldn't help but feel greedy as to attempt to draw this one in but he would not give up his current catch he would have to pursue this one later or attempt to take them both tonight a risky endeavor.

"Yes Nikolai rescued me from some vandal but moments ago and he offered to take me home." Her eyes still scanning the shadows, every other moment while trying to seem presentable to her friend.

"You would be welcome to join us to see your friend home safely and I certainly wouldn't want you to be caught out here, miss?" He would have her name the one true method he knew to gauge someone by, whether they hide something or whether they are afraid, angry, everything lied within a simple telling of the name.

Rayn sighed sadly, the one time looking like anything but a lady didn't come in handy. "Oh dear you must be in a quite a shock, how lucky that this kind lord happened by." Kind lord she prayed indeed. For if he wasn't just a rich noble who shared the name of one of the most blood thirsty creatures to walk this planet then Rayn was in for one hell of a night.

Hunters told their childrens stories of him, a vampire that hunted even his own kind. They threatened their children jokingly about how naughty children who did not aspire to be their best would be left to him in the end. She had seen what was left of that creatures work, though she had yet to run into him.

Rayn looked up at him, allowing a worried expression to her face. "She must indeed be in shock if she can not know me. She was at my home just last week for tea." Rayn looked down at her self and laughed, "Of course it may be these cloths." She swept the hood of her cloak back, revealing her face. "Don't you know me now? Its Lady Rayn Ashbrook." Her last name was a know vampire hunter family, though all hunters of that family went by their middle names. So in all essence, Rayn and Lyn were two entirely different people.

"I'm afraid I'm dressed so to fine my wayward aunt lyn, grandfather wanted her back home for some reason. Why don't we go back there? we can contact your parents in the morning. AS for Lyn, well she'll just have to find out whatever it is later. Ladies should not be walking the streets alone."

"Y-yes forgive me Rayn, it's just....Yes we should go, would you join us Nikolai?" Rayn Ashbrook....Rayn Ashbrook? Rayn Ashbrook! Nikolai finally clicked the name together, hunters but look at this one, Nikolai was estatic at the thought a 'deadly beauty'.

He'd crossed paths with their line many times over his long years they were very precise in their craft, often he would sit an watch hunters pass through it was always an interest of his to watch them at work. This Asbrook however wetted his appetite unlike the average beauty, she was a hunter the magic in the blood was something to savor. Nikolai had only tasted anything of it's like twice in his life time and this beauty would take more than a single nights meeting to draw in, hunters were much more perceptive, and also fun to play with. So ultimately his little bird of the evening would escape, in vie of a much more enticing proposition.

"I do not wish to intrude upon miss Rayn's hospitality which is intended for you, I am not so presumptuous," he bowed out polightly "but I would like to invite you both to a masquerade ball if only to reassure myself that I had not made the mistake of letting you out of my sight this evening." With a slight of hand he presented two invitations emboldened in gold print.

The name on the front was Nikolai Delecoix which he used for the ownership of his estates his vanity played the part in the use of his first name. His reputation had all but condemed the use of his last name besides being the lord of a Manor for over one-hundred years would call up attention so moving every ten years and changing the deeds was a necessary task as he went along.

"So miss Ashbrook miss?"

"Lidia Escott." she seemed smitten now more comfortable among the presence of Ms.Ashbrook.

"Miss Escott, I bid you good evening, and hope to see you tommorrow night."

Rayn nodded, smiling as she accepted the invitation. "oh I do so love balls! And we can wear a mask how diverting. Thank you good sir, we shall be sure to attend. And thank you ever so much for looking after our dear friend. " Rayn said sweetly, taking the girl by the hand. "Come now dear, I'm sure your mama must be worried sick! Oh and here is the carriage."

Just then a black carriage pulled up coming to a halt. Rayn helped Lidia into it and then herself. Before shutting the door she said in far well "I shall see to it you are repaid for your kindness sir, good eve." She shut the door and signaled the driver to take them home.

The evening wasn't a total loss, though he was a little slighted by missing his evening meal, there was always tomorrow, and there were preparations to see to. His walk home was brief for his manor was in noble quarter of the city, he made sure of that personally many years ago doing away with the ugly little mongrels, vampire and human alike. Now it was the social hot spot for all the old money families and nobilities, a messy job but he had help, many of which would be coming to the Ball.

Rounding the corner he came upon the gates to his home, old iron gates gaurding the way into a wide lush garden adorned with tall bushes trimmed to perfection while som curled around statues some slightly macabre, while others held to angelic perfection. He followed the path from the gate to front door old stopne pillars leading the way to the massive oak doors. Nikolai pushed open the door his servants quick to greet him all of them young all of them beautiful, and only three of them were vampires charged with the affairs of the estate when he was gone. They were also responsible for maintaining the servants, the old and fading beauties were relinquished to the cellar, food for his guests, but never himself servants were below him.

The veiw into the foyer was as elegant as can be imagined a smooth marble floor long carpets leading their paths up and around the twin stair cases on either side of the ball room doorway leading up to the rest of the house's rooms including the library and his bed chamber. He imparted his wishes to his three vampire servants, they were to collect enough blood for his guests, and to strike up a band and chefs there wood be a three humans for every vampire in the room even a hunter would see that as normal for a gathering of lords and ladies. AThe cooks would be preparing food all day tomorrow something that had no importance to him so he'd let his peons make those desicions, but for now he would sleep.
