View Full Version : Official Weregame Queue Signup
Chriz

(Current as of November 20th, 2011)
This queue is for signing up to run (rather than participate in) an official WereGame ONLY.
You MUST read the Official WereGame Information (http://www.werewolf.com/vb/showthread.php?t=17435) thread before you sign up in the queue.
Note: If you would like to run a non-official WereGame, you do not need to sign up and may run one at any time, regardless of other currently active WereGames.
When one official WereGame reaches completion, the signup for the next WereGame may be created. If your turn comes up and you are not yet prepared to run an official WereGame, post that information in this thread so that the next person in the queue can start their own signup. You will then be pushed into the queue behind them.
There is currently no set run schedule (as in games starting on the 1st and 15th of every month), but that may change.
This thread should be for people signing up to run games, or those asking to be rescheduled or removed entirely (if something comes up).
Queue:

Time permits, I can do the July 1st slot, and just PM who signed up for June.
That's more than enough leeway to let Dad recover.

Unless anyone else wants to run a game, I'll take the August 1st slot. I have an idea for the game based on one of old I did, my first game actually.
For those of you who did not play that game, let's just say it was set in a place that reenacted the past. ;)

I put you in the calendar. I think, moving forward, there's no reason people can't put themselves in. If there turns out to be a permission thing, I can adjust that.

I don't know if this is the right thread for this post, but what are weregames? how do they work?

WereGames are like the old Mafia games.
There are two sides "Innocents" and in our case "Werewolves".
Every round everyone votes on who to "lynch". For the innocents their aim is to get the wolf. For the werewolf the aim is to vote off an innocent and cast suspicion away from themselves.
Werewolves also get to "kill" innocents - how often and such is determined by the game host (the one running the game). They also get to "turn" others into werewolves. Again, how often and such is determined by the game host.
If the werewolves equal or outnumber the innocents the werewolves win. The innocents need to vote off the werewolf as quickly as possible.
Since this is run by text rather than reality the games are set to stories - narrations - which may present clues. Voting strategies and reasons can also cause suspicion.
There can also be additional roles with special priviledges. The common one is "Gypsy" who can 'check' a person and find out if they are innocent or werewolf. Their aim is to help the innocents by trying to guide them and try not to reveal themselves.
Other roles used are: Evil Gypsy, Alchemist (who can cure Werewolves) and Necromancer (returns the dead to life). These are all optional and depends on how many people are playing.
They're fun to play!

I thought about this concept for a moment, and read through the last weregame (which was quite some time ago!). The question that arose was - Are we allowed to run "regular" Mafia/werewolf (themed otherwise or not) games?
I'm only asking since that strange narration stuff is throwing me off.

At this point, you are welcome to run any game you like without signing up for any particular time (or any particular theme, although that was never restricted). The weregames as they were seem to have been retired.

I think he means Non-Narrative.
Honestly, I wouldn't expect many to join that as all you can do is "random guess" everytime. In the offline world mafia games were sort of like a drama - people would act as their characters and give off clues that way. Even if just the way they talk or look at you with their eyes. In text there's none of this.
In fact some people used to follow games when not playing just to read the narrations and see how it goes. It was like participating directly in a story - a textual play. That's what made it fun.

On the other hand, the simplicity with which Vendetta first introduced the game to the forums was also very fun and appealing.

Yeah, the original mafia/werewolf games don't have any narration or story elements. It's just a psychological guessing game, like poker.

I'm not saying that your style of play couldn't be entertaining, so don't get me wrong - But the way I do play and lead live mafia games (Many, many games, and once every year for about 50 hours almost non-stop in a certain gaming convention) - The game is at it's best when everyone forgets the "roles". Being a villager doesn't mean you should act stupid. Being a werewolf doesn't mean you should act wolfy or suspicious. Being a seer you shouldn't act like there's an air of mystique around you - quite on the contrary.
The game of werewolf/mafia, isn't about the roles. The roles are just a game mechanic given name. You aren't supposed to "give off clues" as a wolf - you are supposed to play as innocent as you can, because - and read the rules anywhere you like - You WIN when the wolves (tie or) outnumber the town. It's true that the first guess is always random, and for someone who hasn't played alot, the game may very well seem random - But it certainly is not.
The game revolves around observing other people's posting habbits (and reactions in live games where you can see each others face). Like Vendetta said, it's a psychological - reading other people and trying to sniff out their bluff or honesty is what makes the game intriquing. On the other hand, I wouldn't call it anything like poker, since there's very little random element involved.
I'm swamped with school work for a week, but once I get my ten mandatory posts made, I think I'll post up a sign-up thread and see if we have enough interested people.

I don't know how anyone else handles it, but role assignments have always been random in each of my games, which IMNSHO is pretty random.

It was too bad a lot of the games took such a turn for free form role play.

I'll run a game. Since the only other person who expressed interest in making a game was Tomppa who hasn't been on since November, I'll just make a sign up thread which you can find here.
If noone else is going to, I'll do one on the fifteenth. These were fun and it would suck to see them die off.

If you would like to try and participate in the new artifacts feature we have, I'd like to direct you here (http://www.werewolf.com/vb/showthread.php?t=17435).
That is, of course, completely optional. :)
Thanks for the help, one of the only things I can't decide upon is how often I should allow the werewolves to bite someone, I think I'll have to wait and see how many people actually join before I do.
I'm debating between holding it at a carnival or at the theatre.
DarkWolf

if it's 10+ players it's recommended to start with 1 wolf and let them kill per night or turn/bite after 2 kills instead of killing. It's not a rule, and you can vary it however you want. In a past game I had kill every night, bite every other night but had a "random" aspect - kills and bites were not always successful and was basically up to "the roll of the die".
There's all sorts of ways. But a basic guide is kill per night, turn/bite after two nights/kills instead of a kill.
You should at least make a sign-up thread and see how many join. You don't need to tell us the theme up front yet or even the title yet if you dont want to.

If you do not wish to attempt to run an official WereGame, you can start one at any time.
If you do intend to attempt to run an official WereGame, you are welcome to create a signup after the current game ends.
There are no set dates for official WereGames yet, but if they become popular enough the WereGame queue will be reinstated.

Very well, then. As I intend to attempt running an official game, I will wait for the end of this one before posting a sign-up thread. I very much hope that interest in these games returns to the level it was at pre-hack. These were always so much fun.

The chance to run an official WereGame is now currently available. Demonic_monkey has the first opportunity to decide whether or not he wishes to create a sign-up. If he decides not to attempt to run an official WereGame at this time, the next person in the queue may do so. If that game becomes official, demonic_monkey has the first opportunity to create a sign-up after that game reaches completion unless he decides to give up his spot entirely.
Do not attempt to run an official WereGame if you cannot follow the 48 hour limit, or any other of the few and simple rules outlined for an official WereGame.
We're not trying to be mean here. If a member would like to run a WereGame entirely within their own rules, they may do so freely. Using artifacts as an incentive for game participation, however, requires a few simple guidelines.

I have decided that I will attempt to run an official weregame (as long as at least 10 people sign up, as that is the rule, no?). I will be posting my sign-up thread soon.

Hi I got this message from Demonic Monkey today, he asked me to post this on his behave I hope this is the right place to be putting it.
Well, I was slated to start up this thing called a weregame on ww.com, but I will be unable to do so. So if you would I would very much appreciate it if you posted a message for me in the thread entitled Official Weregame #1 sign up. The message is as follows: Hello, all. As some of you may have heard the have been numerous storms that have resulted in major flooding here in Arkansas. While the flooding itself has not actually affected me, it appears that I was not entirely untouched by the storms. Unfortunately, some lightning from the storm ended up frying the OS on my laptop and, thus, I will be unable to host a game until my laptop is repaired. I am sorry that I will not be able to continue the game as planned. I was really looking forward to running a game again, but that will just have to wait until my laptop is fixed. Again, I am very sorry about cancelling the game. John the baptist next in the queue, so go ahead and let him take my slot as weregame master. Thank you.

Is there anyone willing and capable of running an official WereGame who would like to "take over" DM's sign-up and run their own game? The participants are already there, and the game is already official.
DarkWolf
04-27-2011, 09:38 PM
If John the Baptist doesn't (since he's next in queue) I will. :) I've had an idea since my last one. I could probably even start it on the 29th so there's no break in schedule.

John the baptist is next in the queue, but he would need to make sure he can follow the 48 hour limit before running an official WereGame.
EDIT: john let me know that his internet is wonky at home currently will not be able to run a game. It's all yours if you want it, DW.

Righty-oh! Writing the first narration now.
Since he's signed up I'm including John the Baptist just in case his 'net is fixed or he can be on another way. I will be doing my best to stick to a 24-hour schedule and if he, or anyone, misses three votes overall or two votes in succession they will be killed off.
I'm going to be writing the narration now - signup will still be open until tomorrow as I can easily edit. :D It'll be up tomorrow but since the original date for first narration was 30th I'll keep first narration open 48 hours and my schedule should be 24 hours after that from then on. :)

Ok, I was next in the queue after you couldn't do yours, but I'm glad to let you go before me.
Since Rylias' game isn't official, you can create your signup any time. I was going to let Rylias' game go on for a week or so before posting mine, so her players aren't quite so wrapped up in her game. But it's entirely up to you.
