After an absurdly long wait a new MK game will finally arrive soon-ish. It's set for an April 2011 release for PS3 and X-Box 360.

While it keeps the 3D graphics it returns to 2D fighting - which is good. It's taking a step back to the roots - which is fantastic. Fast-paced, thumb-numbing, combobusting entertainment.

And the gore MK was reknowned for has returned completely.

This is a must-have game for anyone who is a fan of MK game or anyone who likes bloody beat 'em ups.

I'm going to have to see it in action. The movies they've shown thus far still feel a bit jerky, not nearly as fluid in motion as SSF4. I am pleased though to see it going back to 2D. The 3D games just didn't do it for me. They got WAY to complicated with the dial up combos and some of the chains you had to pull off were simply painful, no matter what kind of controller you had. I like the concept that they are going back to the MK2 (create your combo) system, of which allows you to be a lot more creative.
The only glaring issue I have with the new MK is the bone breaker attacks. I think they made a mistake with this addition as it slows down the pace of the battle. I see a lot of noobs abusing these moves during online play, while seasoned players will avoid them, in lure of bombastic combos.

Seems smooth enough for me but might be jerkier than SSF4 although MK1 was very jerky.

The X-Ray moves can't be abused too much because to do one you need a full super bar. The super bar depletes whenever you use super moves which are important in fighting and combos. Personally I love it - it really adds a dramatic moment to the fight. Which is the whole point of MK: intense, dramatic, dark, and feeling like at any moment you would be disembowled. Street Fighter's style is more light, fast, and flashy. They're very different games and are played with different gameplay. SF = speed, flashy; MK = varying paces for dramatic, gore-filled, battles.

Seasoned MK players WILL be using the X-Rays moves because they can be chained into and deal heavy damage. Pacing isn't an issue for MK players - MK has never been a high-speed frantic fighter. This new one will be the fastest they've made but it's still slower than many SF games. Play MK for dramatic fights, SF for intensely fast fights.

Well I've been a BIG MK player since MK1. I was very good at it too, with MK3 (Ultimate/Trilogy) being my best. I played as Kabal, but I could pretty much dominate with any character, especially with Noob Saibot or Rain...granted they both were extremely cheap. :P Alas I miss my N64... I got MK Trilogy for PS as well... but my goodness that game is nigh unplayable due to the rabid loading times.

I still think the animations for the new MK game are a bit too stiff, but then again, I won't really know how much so until I play it. I don't know about the character swapping, but I won't know how much I like it until I actually see how it plays into the game...

I still plan to purchase it, as it will be the first "REAL" new MK since Armegeddon (of which wasn't that good, but then again I didn't like any of the Deception franchise).

We'll see... we'll see... I can already tell you this, my two characters will be a Scorpion/Sub-zero alliance! Freeze!/Spear!!!! Mwahahahahahah...

I didn't really play it much, but I would have if I could keep my games from being stolen.

Alrighty folks the wait is over... Mortal Kombat has been released!

I was skeptical at first, I had to admit, as I've seen MK games that looked really promising, but ended up being more or less the same old junk that Midway seemed to be putting out the last couple of years, but rest assured no Midway in sight, and MK is back in all of its gory glory!

Mortal Kombat takes everything back to its 2D roots. You could say New MK is to the MK series what SSF4 was to SF. They focused on what made the franchise fun, polished it up until it shined, and released it in a nearly flawless (VICTORY!) execution!

The game is fantastic. It is very simple to pick up, I know that there is a lot of depth and strategy. I haven't checked out all the characters as of yet, but I've played as Sub-Zero and Scorpion. It's a bit different at first, but once you realize what button does what, you're set.

The graphics are fantastic! There is nothing card board about this game. You can tell that those who created this game really CARED about the MK franchise... there is love and blood in every polygon. The backgrounds are the eye catcher though. Nothing like seeing all of these delicious retro backgrounds brought back to life in HiDef splender. The sounds are just as fantastic. It's brutal and over the top.

I'm not good enough to jump on Xbox Live...yet... but I will pity many a lost soul once I've unleashed my mad MK skills!

Go buy it now DW... unless it hasn't been released in UK yet... if that is the case... neener neener... :D

I've heard disappointing things about playing it using the 360s d-pad, so I'll probably be picking this up for the PS3. Don't really care about Kratos though. Looking forward to playing it.

I got it :D XxChuubakaxX

And I enjoy it on the 360! Well, the experience I had with a ps3 is that the controls were kinda lagging. So Ill stick to my good ol 360, eventhough I'm dissapointed of the fact that they didn't at least put Spawn in as the special Character for the 360, i still love the MK series!

I played the demo on my PS3, and the D-pad felt a bit awkward to be honest, so I ended up using the analog stick.

Now that I'm playing it on my X360 the controls are about the same. I still find myself using the analog stick, but in truth, it moves so flawlessly you won't mind. :)

And you HAVE to play the Story Mode. I wasn't sure it was going to be something worthwhile, but honestly you could tell that they went all out this time around, and it is actually...not just good...it's fantastic! While the cut scenes still exist to get you to one fight to the other, they actually got some pretty good writers, involved. The dialogue and VO work is top notch, and it adds to the mythology of the series. The one thing the MK series (until the last set of games) had in droves over the Street Fighter series and most fighting game series for that matter, is a fantastic story, and this game pulls out all the stops. Plus it is a really great way to get "Kion" so you can unlock stuff in the Krypt.

THe one thing that is a bit different is the movesets. As a veteran MK player, that was there at day one, It was a bit jaring having to relearn the basic button layout as it is no longer HP LP HK LK (block), and the characters special moves can be assigned to any button. For example Sub-Zero's ice ball, isn't down-forward LP any more. It's down-forward-light kick.

So you sort of have to forget all that you remembered in the last games, but once you get around that, you're good to go.

Fav characters so far... Smoke and Noob Saibot. Yes they are both incredibly cheap, but I loves them... :beerchug:
