Hey everyone,

I'm curious as to what everyones' opinion on the show was. Initially, I didn't like it and thought of it as being no better than terrible soft core porn with a weak story line. However, as the episodes went by, I ended up watching them all and becoming a fan. I mean, soft core porn isn't a BAD thing...:p

But, seriously, is anyone else a fan? Are you hyped for the second season airing soon?

I don't know...I liked the books a whole lot better than the show. Curiousity does have me wondering how the second season will turn out. I'll probably end up watching it anyways.

Why not? If you don't mind me asking. It's always nice to read more than one or two lines. :D

Seriously, is it the cast choice or something of that nature?

Its actually okay. I thought the books were boring though, I wish they'd have picked a hotter lead girl though.

Really? I think Anna did a pretty good job. I'm pretty curious as to what this next season will bring. I heard rumors about having "Weres" in this season, but I'm not holding my breath for that one.

All in all, I just like a good story to unwind to.

I couldn't bring myself to be interested in the series; all I saw were hick vampires in the future, so I stopped watching. When I glimpsed future episodes while walking in a room where my family watched, it seemed to be better, but still, not my thing.

I've heard good things about the books, however I've yet to read them.

I personally like the show a lot more than I like the books. I thought the revisions made it more interesting. I was skeptical of the series until my gf became hooked on it. So I rented the first season and was hooked too. I thought the humor was pretty witty and the drama was not overdone like most shows, and the core concept of the vampires was very nicely done. How they work things in the second season, well so far I've been hanging on the edge of my seat.

I too have been enjoying the second season as much as you. I find myself wishing that episodes were just a bit longer these days because the story is so interesting to me. Now, with the introduction of Mary-Ann and the bumbling "newbie" vampire Jessica, things seem better than the first season.

The show is entertaining, i'll admit that.
I liked the books but after the first two, they seemed to get repetetive.

I didn't read the books, I'm a "Good Cover" person and I didn't like the covers. It gets me in trouble sometimes. I love the show. Somethings piss me off because they don't make sense, but over all I love the show. I could do without every stinking episode ending in a WTF cliff hanger and I hate waiting a week to find out what happens, but as modern vampire themed stories go... I think this is a good one.

For the sake of argument... I think Sookie should be with Eric, Bill is too much of a punk.

Can someone please explain why people are going apeshit about this series? What's so great about it?

I think it's just pure entertainment value... It's campy, trashy, unpretentious, and fun to watch... It can get annoying at moments- especially when they introduce an appealing character then kill 'em off- but it's all good fun... :D

It's sex, violence, drugs, drama, sex, and supernaturalness+ ZOMG.

And yet, it is still strangely entertaining in the sense that I can't exasperatedly turn the TV off until the episode's over.

I hate myself for it, yet I can't help it.

+vampires, shapeshifters, psychics, maenads (Greek cow bitches that follow Dionysus), werewolves (referenced only, no actual appearance), and any other weird shit they can find

Vampires are the 'in' thing right now. And it's more adult-oriented than Twilight. And it's on HBO.

I should have just said HBO.

None of those things explain what so "great" about the show. In fact all of those are things you can say about other, sometimes pretty bad, things.

I liked the books better to be honest. I tried watching the series but just couldn't get into it.

I just didn't like the way the books were written. They couldn't hold my interest very long.

Is it because they were books? ~~~~~

No, it's probably because the author herself wrote more about what would have been going on inside her own mind (which was probably not very presentable) rather than establishing a character. They're only slightly better than Twilight IMO, and that sits at the bottom of my range for literature. It's painful to read books like those.
