Musicians, what kind of music to you like to play or sing? Do you have a favorite songwriter/composer? Are there any types of music you would like to try?

Personally, I'm a big fan of classical music. It's hard to choose which composer is my favorite, though. I really like Bach, although he's pretty tough to play. My sister says his songs are basically finger exercises, and she's right. I also love Beethoven. I've tried some rock, opera, jazz, even church music (ugh yes, I played a few times for my church...) but nothing gets me going like classical music.

I recently bought a violin, which is an instrument I've wanted to play for 10+ years. Right now I'm able to play songs that consist of 4 notes! But, once I get better I think I might try some Celtic music. I like how that sounds on string instruments.

I like alternative and metal.

I watched MANswers last night and discovered that country music might be contributing to suicide thoughts and tendencies. Country Fans! GET OUT NOW WHILE YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO LIVE! Listen to metal. We only get whiplash. :D

I used to play the violin when I was younger, but classical and bluegrass just wasn't for me. I became a drummer and have stuck with that. I love playing me some metal songs, where you really get to unleash on the set.

Rock and metal mainly but I like to throw in some classical as well. I love playing any Metallica, Bush and Disturbed song as well as Korn and Nightwish. I love playing nursery rhyms to my nephews and Christmas songs during my family's Christmas party.

I have my musical roots in hard rock and metal, and this is still true when it comes to my guitar playing. However, since most lead guitar playing is based in blues, you can catch me playing some of that from time to time.

Mainly classical and jazz on my alto sax, but I have a decent collection of rock stand tunes too

Well lets see here...

i've been playing jazz and blues for the past two years and have been currently been playing some deathmetal blues. Sounds like and odd combination but it sounds so wicked!

Alternative and classic rock. I take lessons for the acoustic guitar, which I've been playing on and off for a couple years now. I took singing classes when i was younger because my mother owned a children's music studio. The lessons certaintly helped and I sing all the time, with my own songs or someone elses. I'd love to pick up some more classical string instruments like the violin or one of those huge stand up basses, but all in good time.

Metal, classical and rock pretty much sums it up. On the guitar, straight metal and rock. On my piano I vibe down to classical.

I'm loving the variety everyone has going on. What songs are people working on? For the last week or so, I've been working hard on the first movement of Moonlight Sonata. It's such a beautiful song. I'm thinking of recording it and putting it up on YouTube when I get the tricky parts down a little better. Maybe I'll post a link when I do that.

If my poor attempt at singing and making music means that I'm a musician...

I sing whatever pops into my head, or whatever's playing on my ipod. One minute? Christian Rock. The next? Rap. After that? Children's music. Bubblegum pop is always a fun genre to sing, just because of it's name. Mostly sing rock, and try to follow along on the drums, but I'm out of practice.

I'm in a classical choir next year that does a few jazz songs. I'll admit my friends in higher choirs sneak me music thats from jazz and I love it. I've gotten into a soloist group last year that was for the Christmas concert (lots of stress).
For the most part I listen to bands like Weezer, Emilie Simon, Modest Mouse, Led Zeppelin, and Aerosmith.
I've been known to grow an obsession with some weird ass songs like Lolipop by Mika.

I'm very mixed. My favourite bands happen to be within the metal genre but I'm not just keen on metal. I play guitar and play any music I feel like and include influences of all kinds of genres. Rock, metal, country, blues flamenco, neo-classical, etc
