An excerpt from By the Light of the Moon. Available at Amazon, Barnes and Noble and other booksellers.

He was going full bore, concentrating totally on the ball, when his right foot slipped on something wet. He didn’t go down on that step, but when his left foot struck the ground and slid, he was a goner. Tommie threw out his arms in front of him in an effort to break his fall, but they went out from under him and he slammed into the ground in a spray of red sending him skidding along on his belly. What had he fallen into? Whatever it was, it stunk. Cow shit? No, it didn’t smell like that. He didn’t have a reference for how this smelled. When he stopped sliding, Tommie opened his eyes and saw that he was covered in red.
“What is this?” he asked as he pushed himself up.
He stopped when he saw it.
“No! It can’t be!”
He blinked his eyes, wiped his glasses and looked again. It was still there.
Tommie tried to shout, but his voice failed him at first, then he screamed. He leaped up from the ground as if it were electrified and ran back toward the field, screaming the high-pitched screams of a boy who has not yet reached puberty.

Nice excerpt Larry, but I think it would help if you posted a brief synopsis (such as what is printed on the leaf of a hardback covered book), to better give us an idea what the book is about. :D

Also Larry, after googling, the title, I found only one entry, and it was by Dean Koontz. If you are posting an excerpt from somebody else's book, please be aware that in the future you need to label it as thus, so we are aware that this excerpt is NOT from a book you've written, but by another author. As a writer myself, I'm very protective of my material, and would want it to be respected, and the proper credit given to where it is needed.

Now, if this an excerpt from your book, that so happens to have the same title as Dean's (It can happen), make sure you create a link to your site, or the Amazon/ Barnes and Noble site, so would be buyers can go to the correct place.

You can rest easy. It's my book. I'm surprised my book didn't come up on the search. You can try searching on Larry Kerr.

My site is http://www.larrykerrauthor.com. I'd be happy to hear some feedback from members of the site.

Thanks for asking.
