I'm just gonna make a general call out for old LARPers. Since all of the larps we used to be a part of got deleted, I'm thinking that we might need a good LARP for those of us who like to roleplay and want a good LARP story to seriously commit to.

So, here's my call out! If anyone is interested in making a serious roleplay with me, with invites and good hard rules, maybe even keep it dice based like McKitty's new Vampire one is, then you should know I'm interested in making one. This is also a general call out for if anyone has an idea and wants to create a story relay with me instead. Please, either way, PM me. (So that we don't overload this thread with ideas)

I'll say it again, I'm interested in hosting a serious LARP with someone. Just PM me and we'll hammer out a story and rules. (NOTE: This is for those members who get disinterested in other larp threads due to members quickly dropping out of them and mad posting. This would actually be a commitment to the story!)

Well, right now I'm working out one with Inkheart, but if I can rely on you for moderator duties (I.E.: If someone breaks the rules, cheats at the dice roll, etc...) then that'll be great. :3

(Those things were the reason I didn't want to start a serious relay before... Too easy for someone to break the rules and it might be too hard to calm down the mad posting)

I think I'll throw out a relay story if I can be sure that some people will join.

Message: Lau's character does parkour, which I know a few things about. As a fairly experienced traceur myself (I only add that because I’ve jumped over nearly everything that there is to do,) there should probably be a success roll of some kind on the parkour movements. Be they tic-tacs, vaults, whatever. It takes me a fair amount of concentration and skill to do those things, and unless I’ve been drilling a very lot, I’m unlikely to hit any combo with a semblance of skill.

So I don't know what you (in this case you refers to everyone involved)want to do. Just thought I'd throw my two cents in.

Update: Dad's still in pretty bad shape, he regressed a bit, and the doctors are undecided on if/when to give him a skin graft since the hole in his foot is not healing (Personally I think it's worse as you can see more of the planar fascia tissue than the last cleaning).

I've been dealing and herding family members and the moving process which is like herding cats. It's taken up so much of my time that I barely get to sleep, let alone sit down for more than ten minutes. I am doing a browse-through to make sure LARP stays decent, but can't do more than check-ups.

Everything should be settled by next Tuesday. But, we'll see. I apologize to everyone in the LARP and Weregame thread.

I know there's some rough patches between a few members and the way I'm cutting down on LARP formations.

If a LARP is formed up, I'll join in. I'm not really fond of no-rules games though. I like the element of chance and variations that dice, or even coin-flips bring in.

I don't like closing/deleting threads but the LARP is, well, it's known for horrible grammar, Mary-Sues, and constant spam as folks just randomly start up threads because their attention span is shorter than a goldfish. What I hope to see, as I know the lot of you folks still here, is an improvement in quality (and I know you guys have it).

A lot of my changes are revolving around the definition of LARP. While we cannot do live-action, there's still merit to the name. LARP is derived from Mind's Eye Theater that White-Wolf came up with. This site was originally founded because Chriz liked the Werewolf: the Apocalypse game and whatnot. Most LARPs are controlled by a gamemaster/storyteller that controls the world that the player-characters live in.

I think we need to start morphing to that ideology because the games were it's all "I totally blast that NPC while running down the hallway" and fights between characters (that can never be resolved without someone going "fine, I lose already") are dying out before they are a month old.

I want to see how controlled games will work, and if they're last. Who knows, it might be fun.

I mean, some of them weren't even lit. roleplay threads... some of them aren't even cleverly disguised as one. One is asking about Live Action groups near an area, another is asking for people to join something that has to do with werewolves, somehow, and the other is a half written period werewolf piece that... actually... sounds similar to mine. But I wouldn't know because it's half written.

So, do we want a werewolf style? Fantasy, sci fi, crime, fan-based...

Hey, you finished writing it! Thanks. For future reference, perhaps it would be better to finish writing the first post on a word program and then post it all at once.

From what I understand, it is a roleplay about two werewolf rival clans in the nineteenth century (1800s).

The only real input I have for you is to clean up your grammar and spelling, and to phrase the rules differently. Be a little more clear as to what your character is doing when you write. And... Dogs/wolves' ankles/knees are not backwards (writing that is a common mistake in many werewolf stories). Sorry. If you actually look at a dog's stance and try to recreate it by assuming that stance, then you'll find enough similarities in anatomy where no body part would suddenly crunch and invert.

Besides that, it's a good rp. I'm going to join it when I get some more time on my hands. :)

A little tip before you get too deep into here. The older members don't appreciate l33t speak. Spell out your words. Kudos to you that you did it in the rp thread, but it'll be best if you bring that into every post you make.

YOU Can NOT believe how good it feels to get that cast off, and you can probably imagine hom much it suck to catch a falling fridge a foot too late, let's jus say my borken hands are a result of moving a fridge I'm feelin much better thankyou Kathryn:) painkillers a nice too. but now obviously I can use my fingers a lil more, the jist of the story is that I intended to save my foot from a falling fridge only to have it pin my hands instead, luckly I had a few people close by so, it could have been worse.

I know I'm behind. I can only apologise. I have a lot to deal with and recently came back to work after off sick, it's an adjustment and I have stuff I keep having to do at home. Mainly this involves getting myself ready for renewed job hunting. Losing job at end of month due to place closing down. So, have to edit and re-edit my C.V. (to you americans think "resumé") and blah.

My brain's been too scattered to think creatively. I haven't abandoned the rp I will be writing again soon.

The idea is interesting but I would need to know what would happen to how magics would work since the different planes can alter magic workings (such as the boost to necromancy for Bala-Ged or chaotic results of spells in Kirar).

Ummm...the only way I can explain it is like this:

The colors of mana are red, blue, green, black and white.
Red mana is choatic, impulsive and passionate. (Kirar)
Blue mana is calm, imtelligent and orderly. (Denui)
Green mana is strong, powerful and regenerative. (Serrik)
Black mana is self-obediant, death-focused and over all dark. (Bala-Ged)
White mana is just, communal and defensive. (Astar)

When the planes collide, the mana combines in new ways and spawns new magic. For example, if Astar and Bala-Ged collided, their would be zombie knights, undead clerics and all manner of those sort of things. It is really dificult to explain, but I hope I did a decent job of explaining it.

What would happen if one layer how do you say? Spring a leek.... leaking into another layer, who may have cracks.

But there would have to be an event that could cause such a shift in the worlds.. Like all those teleportations that happen... The ability to cross dimensions or planes of existence, the gate way could cause a temporary tear in the fabrics of space/time/worlds and if that portal was open to long the whole could leek into crack...

However despite it being a good idea, sometimes Its better to not complicate things. I have noticed Players tend to introduce a lot of..mingling of creatures that just...."SHOULD NOT BE!"

For instance a Necromantic mage taking knights and making them into Zombie's is just as possible...

the evolution of the undead, if this was to happen think of how Zombies would change?

Um Claudia isn't at all sultry, red hair yes. TO be honest she is kinda a bitch- who hates people period (with the exception of children). Her hair is red, because I don't have a red haired character on this bored yet (they all have black or blond hair).

And when I made Claudia it took me longer to write the bio then expected because I wanted to check with Demonic Monkey with a few things. *Smiles*

I wrote it in a word document then copy pasted it then saw Roxy had red hair and went :banghead:

Claudia is not sultry, or sexy in any way. *laughs* If she is coming across as that I need to stop and fix that. She is suppose to be jade cold, and for the most appear rather cruel with the exception of these little things that remind her of her humanity.


Also on another note Claudia is a cripple if you take her cane from her she will fall. She can't walk with out it. Period.

Actually I was going for something different than my previous two characters. Raviel's (Mirithas) hair is black but longer with a slight wave. It is not his original hair colour though. Warren (Adalya) has brown hair. Sebastian (Brothers & Sisters) has blond hair. So does did his counterpart in The Ascended.

Lagos is a character I've been at least partly working on for around 2 years now.

Brown and black are actually the most common hair colours. There is also genetic predisposition - in china and japan it is the most predominant hair colour and ANY other hair colour is a rarity if natural.

Vampire are especially going to be "dark and mysterious" types. If one was not then they're kinda crappy vamps. The whole allure to the mythology is them being darkly natured and mysterious. Black hair also contrasts better to pale skin and most eye-colours.

Finally, on to the point you over-emphasize. The only people who can grant authority to change a profile is the thread creator or an admin. No other game writer has any say over the matter. 'Course things may have changed since I was a mod of this forum but I doubt the rules would have changed much. :shrug:

Hey folks (the ones who remember me anyway), I'm back. Or at least I plan to be. It's been a very long time since I've posted on this site; lack of activity plus other commitments meant that I basically just stopped checking after a while. But I've been lurking a couple times and it looks like things are picking up again and I'd like to come back, at least as much as I can.

So, I'm asking, are there any larp's going on right now that are still getting started/looking for characters that I can jump into? Keep in mind that I have a history of liking to play villains but really anything will do. If not, I'll have to give some thought to making a new one of my own if anyone would be interested.

I am the one that is struggling to understand your point. So if that is the issue you are having then, please by all means let me know, I will not be offended, to cause you to feel discouraged was not the intention.

Oh no no no. you are not the source at all. I would love you to send me what you can on the fae or any other subject. I love learning about this stuff and adding depth to the writing. In no way do I want you to think that this is your fault. I' just frustrated with editing the profile. Its done but its not good enough and the feed back I got did not specify what needed changing. It just very very frustrating. I love that you appreciate the writing and I do love role playing with you all, it makes me rather happy.

I am sorry I have been neglectful of you and your stories. I right now am feeling a little down due to some life choice changes and though I know that they are for the the best, I have not yet made it my destination.

My step brother wants to make sure to accompany, as my night driving and I have never driven in high traffic (more then 3 lanes) and I will be headed in a direction of about 4-5, and during night time so in the name of safety (as well for him getting out of the house *Laughs*) he is making his way up here to help me on my way back to my home town...

Ok those shows like "In Search of..." or ghost hunting shows have been popular for awhile now and I was thinking about trying to do a RP like that.

Basically it'd be about an Agency for finding cryptids, ghosts and whatever other mythological/legendary creatures your heart could muster.

Participants could research the creatures they're searching for and report back with a story based on how they "hunted" that creature using the "facts" and theories.

How does that sound?

Now, onto what I wanted to say. Inspired by this (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=175748) thread here I had the idea of making a roleplay where everyones powers are chosen at random, using the method used in the thread of going to the Superpower Wiki (http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Superpower_Wiki) and hitting random article.

I believe that there have been a few rp's before where one group or another kidnapped people and tried to give them powers but it has always been up to the writter what power they got. I think it would be interesting to do it this way just once; that way we get a wider array of powers from the amazing (light manipulation), to the useless (double jump).

I think someone tried to do something like this before and no-one went for it, maybe because people don't like the lack of power over their character, maybe because their method was 'write a character and I'll roll a die to see what you get' which people might not like the sound of. Either way I wanted to see what people thought rather than just dive in and write something up. If enough people like the idea I'll start writting a plot for this.

Also, if anyone gets Omnipotence, they re-roll.

Well, that's at least one interested party. Even if there isn't enough interest for a full roleplay using this idea I'll probably still use the site to find powers for my characters at random.

Avian Mimicry is a decent power; the ability to take on features of an avian(bird) like feathers and such. As long as you remember that giving yourself wings doesn't mean you can fly. You can at least give yourself sharper eyesight and talons though.

I got a little luckier myself, my first roll - and the one I'll be using if this works out - was Amalgamation; the ability to merge objects with oneself or others. Oh so many possibilities.

LARPs often suffer and become inactive because writers lose the steam/focus for that world or the characters they created. Having the added burden of having a character with traits you don't want them to have can weigh this down even more.

I do like the Superpower Wiki and will probably be using it from now on. Certainly means no longer needing to explain the powers and can just link to it instead and the randomising can prompt ideas.

I guess I'm also just struggling with RPs lately. I find myself getting bored of them quickly. This has nothing to do with the RP itself and there have been some very good ideas lately. But for me RPs develop too slowly. Pages in and I still find my character has nothing to really do, say, or anything. More and more I find myself wanted the "to the next event/room of traps/dungeon" style found in things like Dungeons & Dragons. Bane has had an idea about making such a thread and we've been talking on how to make a forum-version of D&D. I wish he'd hurry up! XD But it is difficult.

Anyone here familiar enough with D&D to get out a handbook for a forum version game, though?

I do like the Superpower Wiki and will probably be using it from now on. Certainly means no longer needing to explain the powers and can just link to it instead and the randomising can prompt ideas.

I guess I'm also just struggling with RPs lately. I find myself getting bored of them quickly. This has nothing to do with the RP itself and there have been some very good ideas lately. But for me RPs develop too slowly. Pages in and I still find my character has nothing to really do, say, or anything. More and more I find myself wanted the "to the next event/room of traps/dungeon" style found in things like Dungeons & Dragons. Bane has had an idea about making such a thread and we've been talking on how to make a forum-version of D&D. I wish he'd hurry up! XD But it is difficult.

Anyone here familiar enough with D&D to get out a handbook for a forum version game, though?

TheXeeroT happens to have a few of the handbooks (player handbook, DM handbook, and race and creature handbook) and I've been studying up on them a bit (particularly the DM handbook, since we've been thinking about having a regular D&D night and he wants me, DM, to be the DM), so I think I am familiar enough with them to play.

Also, Fenrir, according to the page on avian mimicry, I would have the following:

Avian mimicry-The mutative power in which one takes on bird-like physiology and behavior. Includes talons and wings, gizzard, as well as Enhanced Vision. Difficult to revert back to original from.

Techniques-Swan Song/Poetic Perish: Passes out a vociferous note heard amongst enemies/targets or even present allies. The purest of souls may be unaffected.

Abilities and Traits

-Superhuman Senses
-Superhuman Reflexes
-Superhuman Coordination
-Razor-sharp Talons and Claws
-Natural Wings
-Supeman Sturdiness
-Supehuman Stamina
-Superhuman Strength

Limitations

-Atmospheric Adaptation will be needed if one wants to reach a certain height.
-Some might not either leave Earth, or any other planet
-Takes time for beginners in order to control their traits.

Well at the very least my suggestion has made people aware of a large new resource of potential powers to use.

I can see your point DW about people being stuck with a useless power with my suggestion. Most of the one's that I've seen have additional uses outside of what they're supposed to be used for if used creatively, but I can't see a single use for Double Jump or Thermal Resistance outside the obvious. Maybe a rule of 'roll three and pick your favourite'?

As for a forum version of D&D? I've never played that or any tabletop RPG before but I'm all in favour of faster paced RP's. Or even just one that gets past the opening stages before it fades out.

And DM, I believe a human would probably be too heavy to fly without a huge wingspan of (I think this is how they justify Angel from the X-Men) super strength, which you actually have. Even without it that is still a impressive set of traits to have.

Ok So I finally had the time to sit down and actually explore that site since I'd never heard of it before but I definitely dig it though it's probably a more intense version of what I was thinking of doing. It makes me think I might have to figure out how to make things a little more original.

I have some freelance work to get done today but I think I will try in some time this week getting up at least a thread that establishes settings and characters if people are still interested... I watched the anime a while ago and I can certainly see the potential of doing something interesting with a setting where people transform into weapons to be wielder by other people, especially with witches and the monstrous Eggs of Kishin (name changes depending on which translation you watched) adding in some interesting opponents. I really must get back to reading the manga sometime.

Looks good DW, I'll make sure to write a profile later on tonight. The addition of things like tiers and soul levels is interesting and makes things more RPable than it was originally. I had an idea for a rather interesting weapon while I was reading it and I've already got all my tier 1 techniques planned; this should be fun.

Yes, the other gun holders will still be able to see Moses. He will just beccome invisible to everyone else in the world.

Ok guys, I have a new idea for an RP but I thought I would post the basic idea here first to get an idea of if this would even be popular, since my RP’s tend not to attract a lot of members or last very long and we recently had a ‘magic weapon’ RP in ‘Bullets’.

So, I won’t give away too many (or any) of my plot ideas at the moment since it is still a work in progress, but from a gameplay point of view here is the premise:

Humans were given access to magic long ago, but in its basest form they were not capable of handling or manipulating it. After much research into the subject they were eventually able create objects which were powered by and harnessed this magic. However, while now able to wield magic, humans are still not built to handle it and using these objects usually comes at a cost of something important, a cost which is extracted with each use. These objects come in three varieties, the names of which are pending.

(Lowest Form): The weakest and most basic; essentially just the use of science to manipulate magic towards a certain use, granting the human who wields it an ability or enhancement that they would not normally have. Usually takes the form of some item of jewellery or something that can be worn.

Weakest powers, lowest cost. When I say cost I mean something intangible, something mental along the lines of gradually forgetting how to perform a basic (but essentially non-critical) skill the more you use it until you can’t do it at all. You can wield two of these at most, since they are weak and generally not combat oriented.

(Advanced Form): More powerful than the above and built with the specific intent to kill one’s opponent, generally takes the form of a weapon and takes some skill to use.

Stronger, more combat oriented powers, higher cost. Costs are usually more serious, such as losing the ability to feel certain emotions, the emotions dulling over time until you can’t feel it ever again.

(Ultimate Form): Only seven in existence. The reason for their creation will be explained in the plot. A set of close combat, melee weapons created to directly oppose a certain force; an advanced technique was used to forge them which is now forgotten. There may have been more in the past.

Greatest powers, by which I mean the most overpowered abilities you can think of short of Reality Warping or anything with Omni in the name. Greatest cost, by which I mean gradual loss of humanity/personal identity (memories), of freewill (weapon is semi-sentient, its goals become your goals), or of one of your five major senses.

Wielders of these seven weapons are chosen by the weapons and cannot be unchosen unless dead.

This is rushed and it’s late so I might not have done a very good job of explaining this. Essentially, magic weapons which grant power but which cost you something to use; the greater the power the higher the cost. Does this sound like something people would be interested in? Speaking of making new in progress rps, I'm making one myself. I'd like it if you gave me your opinion of it. It's a basic fantasy setting, where an evil overlord is threatening to take over the land, and it's up to a group of people to stop it. In order to stop it, they are to gather seven sacred items of power, blah blah blah.

I'm also thinking that it should be required that people actively look for unique races to play as, taking the classic mythology behind each creature, like how elves aren't long lived humans with pointy ears, they are more magical and spiritual, where there's many kinds of elves. Or challenging people to not take werewolves, but to try and find other sorts of shape-shifters, like how Berserkers in Norse mythology were [male] warriors of Odin, sometimes naked, who had such a battle rage that they would become beast-like (taking forms of wolves, bears, or bulls).

Of course, some myths would have to be slightly altered to fit the story, like how Centaurs are depicted as wild, untamed beasts who would... um... Well, Greeks were kind of perverted, and this is a forum for +13, so I'm not going to go into that very much.

Most of it is written, I just want some opinions of it.

Hey, someone still remembers that, I'm glad. I could work that sort of mechanic in if people wanted, I did say that the seven ultimate weapons pick their own user so a random selection could work well. I'd probably make it so that anyone who wanted one of those weapons would PM me with their profile, I would then randomly select a power (probably by hitting random article on that Superpower Wiki I posted about before) and give them their weapon.

I might prefer that method actually. No offense to the people here, but I've noticed that the range of powers people give to their characters is kind of limited; I'd like to throw in some new, interesting powers of my own and see what people can do with them.

The idea for the plot (and the basic idea behind the magic items) comes from an existing source, so the setting is more or less set. The setting is not earth, though it is earth-like, fairly industrial (though the areas between major cities are quite natural and untouched) and at roughly earth's technology level with some magical enhancements (flight is somewhat easier now).

Normally I like to work just with humans; allowing people to make other races tends to make people focus more on the race and less on their abilities and weapons, which are generally the focus for me. The setting does have other raves though, namely cat people, Vampires and Werewolves. There's a ghost in there somewhere as well.

Urm, we'll see about the humans only thing, but that's my answer for now. I'll see how other races fit into the plot.

Not at all, you don't need to start with one, though getting your hands on the Advanced form is somewhat tricky (they are made for military use after all, though a blackmarket may exist) and Ultimate is almost impossible for the obvious reasons (if I do introduce the Battle Royale selection method idea, which I love by the way, then this will be easier to work out)

As for your idea, I like it. The plot seems pretty standard but its always a good one. I like the idea of making people look for new sources to use (as I've made apparent above) and making them come up with something they haven't tried before. I've already got an idea of what I would use for this, though I'll need to do some reading to find out more.

Nah, you don't need to write up anything. From what it looks like from the other questions, I'd be very interested in joining. And of course I remember your Battle Royale. One of my characters from that became a frequently used character (Gerald Smith).

And if you need help looking up a certain race to use, just ask away. I have a couple of reference books and the infinite source of wikipedia. I'll just say this, you can make up your own job or class to use as long as it stays fantasy, and you can take creatures that don't exactly have a place or name in the mythical creatures category (such as talking animals, cursed creatures, or like humans made from stone that aren't golems.)

Since you like the idea, I'll have it up in a couple of days. Keep working on your idea as well, it's sounding really interesting, so count me in as one of the people to join it.

Message: To explain what my post was and what I want to happen next just to get the story going:

The centaur boy is being chased by soldiers. He ran down the side street that Jaeger had went down, and since everyone else's character could see the hunter and Cahalith's little water fairy, then I'm assuming the other characters are also down this alley way.

The boy only ran into Rylias Shadow's character and fell over, thus stopping his run. I was actually planning on leading all of the characters to the castle after the boy got up and introduced himself/after the soldiers catch up.

And just so everyone knows, this boy is not going to be a third character, he's simply an NPC, just an important one for the moment.

So DK and I aren't going to be around for a while starting tomorrow. We may even be gone for a few months, so if somebody could take care of our characters in Ultimus while we're gone, it would be much appreciated. If anyone feels up to taking them while we're gone, pm us immediately so that we can give you details about where we intend to take their character arcs in relation to each other. I wouldn't worry about the relation to the story, as I'm sure fenrir has plans for the future of the story.

As for Stained Glass...well, it's been moving rather slowly lately. A pause on that one wouldn't be unheard of. It's happened in the past and it'll probably happen several more times in the future.

Plans I have DM, plans I have. Plans that I was just about to start introducing into the story. Plans... that I need Amira for.

I need to slowly introduce the plot away from the characters first, a set of NPC only scenes to give people time to wrap up or at least develop what's going on right now with the characters. After that I need a Judge to actually bring the characters into the plot though.

The Fugitives I can live without but if someone could either take Amira or make a Judge of their own (there are still a few weapons left available after all) then that would help a lot.

The Judges are permission only characters though, so send me a PM with your profile if you are interested so we can talk. I can then include the character in the plot building scenes.

Control of David Reynolds goes to Bane, who was the Fugitive I was going to send his new character after. You can control David for the fight, but he should be taken in alive and delivered to the Praesul/Head Judge.

Any plot NPC's I was using can be used by anyone who needs them but I ask that you use the mysterious Praetor sparingly. I never got much chance to bring her into the story anyway.
