For quite a while I'd been thinking about trying a bug. They're healthy, they're potentially an answer to many of the world's hunger problems, and because they are both nutritious and cheap they're a good alternative to cheap snack foods that are made mostly of overly processed corn.
But... you know... they're bugs. Most of us in countries with internet access view the eating of bugs as some icky thing you'd only do if you lived in a hut. Even if assured by someone most trustworthy that it'll be delicious a lot of people will just have trouble eating them because it kinda freaks them out (my mother is very much on this list).
Well, I tried one. I started small, they're little chocolates with ants in them. And they're actually pretty good. Texture takes getting used to, but only because you know it's an ant. These ants were a little bit bitter but mostly had citrus-like taste. This leads me to believe most people wouldn't like just a pile of ants, but they go really well in chocolate and I could see them doing well on a salad or mixed with a spread for bread or crackers (like cream cheese).
So, has anyone else eaten a bug?
