Hey fellow video gamers,
Have you ever gone into your local GameStop or EBGame and scoffed the employees for offering such meager prices for your video games and systems when you go to trade them in? Well, now you can wreak vengeance by heading in to your local Best Buy because now, they are going to start matching the price of USED games at GameStop for NEW games at Best Buy.
Example...
If you were to go into GameStop and purchase Metal Gear Solid 4 USED for $25.00, you could instead go to Best Buy and purchase the same game, but NEW for the same price.
Awesome?
I think so.

Thats amazing because the way I see it gamestop will have to lower their prices big time to force them to stop this (no more 6 month old used games for $56 when its $60 new. seriously what the fuck, gamestop?). Also, best buy will stop charging $60 for 3 year old sports games. Its only being tested in a single store, but I'd like to see this take off.

I too would love if this took off all around. I mean, I like GameStop for certain things like exclusive game content and whatnot, but the price thing is just terrible...

Oh sweet, I usually buy used because I hate spending money.
This sounds like a great idea. Wish that someone would do similar here.
But what I really wish they'd stop doing is charging more for the used stuff than the new, in the same shop. So if you don't happen to look around and notice it, you not only pay more but also get used as well.
I suspect there's probably a law againt this, if not there probably should be.
This is good news. I already stopped giving GameStop my business because they have been ripping me off for years. Videogames haven't been in the budget for awhile now, but this might allow me to be more flexible with my spending. :D
I was thinking about picking up Madden 2010 this year but i'm having second thoughts. Madden 04 and Madden 07 were fantastic, but everything after and in between was the same recycled stuff with updated rosters and a new coverboy. At least I know now I can get a reasonably priced new copy from Bestbuy as opposed to Gamestop now once some reviews come out.
Anyway good post. :beerchug:

Why Utah though? If Best Buy picked a more populated location, the sales would probably jump enough so that they would start to do the same thing in other stores.
Okay, my only problem is that this store that's doing this isn't close to me. ;p

I never bought at Gamestop even when my friend worked there and offered to give me his discount. They always seemed over priced and believe it or not I bought used games from Blockbuster that were cheaper! Still good info :) I actually bought my last game, Ragdoll Kung Fu, from Best Buy :) I have one of those rewards cards so I save with coupons.

I never realized that Ragdoll Kung Fu was a disc based game cause I've always seen it in the PSN store. What system did you buy it for?

I bought it for my Playstation 3. My best friend Anthony bragged about how fun and hilarious it is so I figured I'd give it a shot. I was some what skeptical about it because it looked like a kids game but man it is freakin crazy fun and wicked funny

It's a test, and you don't generally test in your biggest market, because it may give skewed results.
Also, I'd like to point out that video games have a higher profit margin and in the long term I don't see a company like Best Buy actually implementing this kind of a policy. See, you'd have to make up in number of sales, the revenue you'd lose by marking games down that much.
