Rule One: Include (Relay) in the title of your relay thread.
This is more of a suggestion and will not be moderated. Do this if you want to ensure that your relay is not confused for a story.
Rule Two: These are not LARP-style threads.
A Relay, by WW.com standards (having been as such since 1999) are stories that are co-authored between several users. Each user's post should, theoretically have at least a page's worth of words (put it in a word program, if it fills up a page, you're good to go.) Any shorter and you're not doing the story justice.
Rule Three: Spelling and Grammar do apply
Should be common sense, seeing that this is a forum for co-authored stories, but still. If you're going to post here, you better make sure you're not using netspeak or mystipyng every ohter word u rite. It's painful to read and it only lowers the quality of the Relay forum. I'm not asking to grammar-nazi your posts, but c'mon, this isn't a chat, you have time to proof-read.
Rule Four: Ask before WorldBreaking
Relays are a bit more lenient about character controlling. After all, it's a co-authored project. However! If you're going to change the story in a drastic way, or do something that you don't know that another user's character would actually do... please ask the user of that character and/or the original author of the thread if you can do what you wanted to do. In the 10 years I've been in Relays, there's only been a couple of drama-llamas from this sort of thing; let's keep it this way.
Rule Five: Relays are like Molasses
Mmm....Molasses... where was I? Oh, yes. Relays are not like the hetic hustle-and-bustle of the LARP forum. Relays are longer and more in-depth, therefore it's longer between posts. A couple of days is a normal wait, what with everyone's schedules and whatnot. Don't prod folk unless it's been a week or so.
Rule Six: Finish what you Start
I'm so guilty of breaking this rule, and usually, this rule will be a lax one. We all have real lives after all that steal us away and sometimes, Inspiration dies. Try to keep the relays you've joined alive. If you need to bow out, tell someone so they can take over/write out your character
Rule Seven: Keep it Clean-ish
We've had Relays with soft-corn porn. We've had Relays where the details of murder were spelled out. This, in this forum, so long as the thread is marked (Mature)Title of Relay; it's ok. However! ABSOLUTELY NO UNDERAGED PERSONS TO BE INVOLVED WITH SEX OR OTHER ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES. I don't want Chriz slapped with a lawsuit, or you banned. So, watch what you write, ok? Even in the mature threads.
