View Full Version : Obama's Speech Not Aired In Some Schools

In our area, we have one school that aired the speech to the students. There was a second one that was going to but several parents called in and complained, so the plan was turned around and the school didn't air the speech.
I read over the full text of the speech prior to its airing. What I read was a pep talk to students to stay in school. There was no mention of pitchforking parents into supporting health care reform or stimulus packages. It was a "I was once a kid and know what you're going through" to "Stay in school and get the education you deserve" speech.
From what I heard, there was a lot of hubbub claiming the speech was socialist in nature. I don't know.
What's your thoughts? I grew up listening to presidential speeches in school and watching space shuttles explode. In a world where the government, the police, social services, the judicial system and the parents raise children, how much more damage could a "Stay in School" speech do?

I don't see a problem with it, but I also never saw a president's speech in school, either. When the Challenger exploded the vice-principal mentioned it on the PA system and that was it. I wasn't in school when the Columbia exploded.
The only time I can remember the president being mentioned was in kindergarten or first grade when we were told that Mr. Kotter was running for office. ;)

If children get an education they might realize how stupid much of the anti-Obama junk is. Not the legitimate complaints or views; parents with those didn't seem to make a fuss. The ones who got their panties in a bunch seemed to be the ones who are convinced that Obama is the socialist Antichrist not born in America who wants the government to control everything in your life and make Islam the national religion.
The story of America isn't about people who quit when things got tough. It's about people who kept going, who tried harder, who loved their country too much to do anything less than their best. It's the story of students who sat where you sit 250 years ago, and went on to wage a revolution and found this nation. Students who sat where you sit 75 years ago who overcame a Depression and won a world war; who fought for civil rights and put a man on the moon. Students who sat where you sit 20 years ago who founded Google, Twitter and Facebook and changed the way we communicate with each other.
So today, I want to ask you, what's your contribution going to be? What problems are you going to solve? What discoveries will you make? What will a president who comes here in twenty or fifty or one hundred years say about what all of you did for this country?

They taped it here and are previewing it.
Its just a stupid speech! For christ's sake! Like just because I see shows about pet psychics doesn't mean I believe them (total shit right thar). So why would I believe supposed ObamaNation if its "brain-washing".
I'm going to find it on youtube and watch it. I bet you its nothing but the usual "Stay in school, kids! TIMMY TAKE THAT JOINT OUTTA YOUR MOUTH GODDAMNIT, I SAW THAT" etc.
Edit- Watch it here (http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/A-Message-of-Hope-and-Responsibility-for-Americas-Students/)

This isn't just any old speech though: Obama tells us to serve satan (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wte8wQbvZ1I). Not too shocking though since he's the antichrist (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=esJogTzgqgg&feature=response_watch).

People believe this? Nick Cage is so screwed if they make a new National Treasure. It'll be full of conspiracy theorists "And 7 horns means...OH GOD OBAMAS THE ANTICHRIST! I TOLD YOU GUYS!!!!1111one"

People believe this?
More than you'd expect. They're not the majority or anything, but people still make a big freaking deal about Obama, much of it being completely ridiculous.
My uncle suggested to my mom that she keep my little brother out of school the day of the speech. Evidently Obama was planning to use the speech to indoctrinate the children about how amazing his healthcare plan is so that the children would, and I am not making thus up, go home and influence their parents to support the healthcare plan.

While I definitely don't think they are a majority, there ARE quite a few of them. And this sort of knee-jerk mentality seems to be infecting even once rational people. I have a couple of friends, who I generally thought of as reasonably intelligent people (even if we had divergent political views) who swore to keep their kids out of school if his speech was played.

Those are sad sad people.
Can you imagine? "Hey, lets elect him so we can whine for 4 more years like we did Bush!" "Sweet, lets!"
Theres another reason I hate this country.

I remember speeches being aired. But I also remembered that those were "social times" in my classrooms. More kids spent their time whispering with their neighbors about whatever immediately affected their little worlds than watching what could affect their future.
Kids are shallow, self centered people (much like adults but more immature) who don't think about the future much. The latest fights, break ups, hook ups, and all that other kiddy gossip was and is more important to kids than the president encouraging them to try and better themselves.
There will always be a few kids who will sit and watch and give it their full attention, but the reality is, the majority of kids today (and even in my childhood and probably beyond that) just didn't care. The future is far away and the dance/test/whatever is a week away.
One last clarification. NOT ALL kids are like this. But most are.
