After trying ichat, msn messenger, aim etc... I was getting pretty tired of having separate windows that didn't really jell with my aesthetic.

Adium (http://adium.im/) came to be my perfect solution, it combined all my messenger services and was totally customizable. From the icon in my dock, the look of the contact list style to the icon in my menu bar on top. I loves it.

What's your fav?

I use AIM when on Windows and Pidgin when on Ubuntu. Pidgin has more options, but all my AIM stuff goes over there so I don't have to change anything.

My contacts on MSN and Yahoo are probably wondering if I've died or something. To them, I have. I don't use those messengers anymore.

I use Adium at work.

At home on my Linux systems, I use Pidgin, which is the Linux version of Adium. It contains all messenger types in one list. Pidgin typically comes a pre-installed piece of software on most Linux operating systems.

I like skype a bit, though I use several IM services.

Adium here. It's been way better for me than any of the other IM clients I've used.

Ive had this back and forth with Trillian and Pidgin for a while now. Ive settled on Pidgin for AIM, Yahoo, and IRC and Live Messenger for MSN for the webcam options.

While I use Adium now, I have to admit that my absolute favorite ever was Trillian. I can't wait until the Mac build for it comes out. Once I do, I'll need not anything else.

AIM and Skype mostly. I can't even remember my MSN sn or pswd anymore. I'm on invisible so often that most people don't know if i'm online or not.

I hate AIM and MSN. They're buggy for me.

I love Skype, I'm usually on there with Lore %90 of the time. :p
I think I'll try Adium when I get a Mac...

I used Trillian for years. I decided to give Pidgen a try when I reformatted my laptop a couple months ago. I am satisfied with Pidgen, but I think I like Trillian better.

Adium, and I used Trillian when I was a Windows user.

Skype, primarily, with a decent amount of time on mIRC. I used to use YIM a lot, but if a program crashes so frequently it earns the nickname 'yahell' there are a few issues. When I use it, it is mostly because I need to contact people outside my immediate friends, like those on a forum I frequent.

I haven't been able to get MSN to work properly since I got this computer in 2007, and frankly haven't had much interest in struggling with it. If I need to contact someone via MSN, I use Trillian.

MSN, because it works well for me, I know how to use it, and it's all I know (aside from AIM and Yahoo, both which I detest).

Msn, because its simple and easy to use.
And has lots of extras to go with it :P

I would say Adium...but just recently Adium stopped telling me when people log out. So now I find myself having to quit Adium and reloading just to refresh the list.

And I also can't recommend BeejiveIM for iPhone highly enough. It does most messaging services, and allows you to stay online even when you're on the phone, or your phone is in standby mode. Between the two, I'm always online. (much to the chagrin of my wife)

http://www.digsby.com . I prefer it to adium because last I checked, Adiums support for social networking like twitter and facebook was pretty shoddy.

Sinanju, your post would have changed my life forever...if Digsby were already out for Mac. Website says 'coming soon' :P

I just downloaded Digsby. It seems very cool, linking all my social internet things like myspace, twitter, aim, hotmail, etc etc.

So it's my fav now! Before that it was Trillian.

For people posting one or two word answers to this thread, could you please elaborate in your original post? I'm pretty sure we've expressed that posts need content, as we now have post count specific "awards". These posts will be deleted otherwise.

In other news, I've been at this barbarian of a school *coughUniversityofMontanaWesterncough* that rarely has reliable internet and blocks all IM programs, so I've been using Yahoo! Messenger for the Web (http://webmessenger.yahoo.com/). It seems pretty reliable, although it doesn't seem to give a time stamp for new messages.
