For me nothing will probably top the version of A Christmas Carol with Alistair Sims in it but I have to say that visually, this looks great. CGI has come a bloody long way. Directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman and Robin Wright Penn.
What do you think of it?

My wife and I are dying to see this one. The previews have looked great and although it's the same old story, the visuals should help it seem more fresh for us!

I'm wondering if this is going to be a trend. Didn't they come out with a 3D Polar Express last Christmas season?

EDIT: Oh wow, it was 2004! Where'd the time go?

Yes, I'm finding that all too often. :D

Man, this has got to be one of the most remade stories ever. Is it really necessary?

Also, I think we know which A Christmas Carol was the best...

Honestly, I'm sort of disgusted. Jim Carey is not the right actor for this role. Unless they plan on severely cutesy-ing up the movie (*shudder*), he's just going to throw everything off and I predict that the whole span of the film will be one bad joke after another.

However, he did reasonably well in A Series of Unfortunate Events. Liberties were taken with the Olaf character, but they were tolerable. Maybe he can pull this one off without destroying Dickens.

Man what? Have you even ever seen Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Number 23 or The Majestic? OK the latter two aren't fantastic films, but they are pretty decent examples that Carrey can play something other than broad physical comedy.

Yeah, I have to admit Jim Carrey is a pretty good actor. The first time I ever saw him in a serious role was in The Majestic, and I was pretty surprised that he could pull it off.

And of course, everyone remembers The Grinch. :p

In fairness, no. I haven't seen those, but just look at the trailers for A Christmas Carol and tell me he isn't back to his old un-funny self. :-|

He's also quite good in Man on the Moon. Loved that film.
