View Full Version : What Philosophy fits you?

No, this isn't a poll, as I don't feel that would give this topic justice.
However, what Philosophy do you think fits your world view? From something as our there as the Jedi Religion (which, in truth, is just Philosophy with a pretty name), to Platonic. When I'm more awake, I'll reply to this thread with my own feelings, right or wrong, but I want to get this started while I'm thinking about it.

For shits and giggles, I say Determinism.

Apathy. Not caring and going with whatever is going on has made things so much easier. Not really sure if that could be considered a philosophy though.

That's not a very healthy way to live.
Although I haven't read any of Ayn Rand's novels, I have to agree with Chris and say objectivism fits me best.

I'm not entirely sure if there is an 'official' term for my philosophy, mainly because I draw upon several different philosophies muddled together. However, above all else there is one thing which I accept as true. The powers that be strive for a good laugh. Metaphysical Humor I like to call it at times.

I truly don't know what the name of it would be. Most likely Dealwithitism.
But to elaborate I live by a philosophy in which instead of dwelling in the past with the old "Would've Could've Should've", one learns to just deal with it and move on. You don't have time to mope about your mistakes, not when that time should be used to fix them and progress through life.

I'm currently taking an Ethic's class to fulfill my degree requirements and thus far I've found it pretty intense and exciting.
"The objectivist ethics proudly advocates and upholds rational selfishness-- which means: the values required for man's survival qua man-- which means: the values required for human survival-- not the values produced by the desires, the feelings, the whims or the needs of irrational brutes, who have never outgrown the primordial practices of human sacrifice."
- Ayn Rand
I'm definitely questioning the benefits of collectivism vs individualism.
I've also noticed that those apposed in helping Haiti are scrutinized for their assumed lack of empathy, heart and care for fellow brethren. Its rather presumptuous of people to label those unwilling to support the 'Save Haiti' as heartless, apathetic and the plethora of other vocabulary that enlists them as horrible.
Philosophically speaking I am a proud advocate of rational selfishness-- but it is suggested by Rand, that in order to be rational, one must separate themselves from emotions, desires, whim's and other 'irrational' urges that lack the logic to make precise decisions to survive on a more superior level.
By no means am I unsympathetic to the world-- and in fact can be quite empathetic-- to a fault! However, I feel that so long as I am responsible for myself and only myself, I am deserving of the self worth to logically justify my fight to live in the means that best satisfy my needs.
I do not deny my fellow brethren the same right to such selfishness.

So you bypassed the infantile anmesia stage? Most memories (that we can consciously recall) don't start forming until about 3 years of age.
There is a belief in spirit animals, and then there's the delusion that one IS an animal. Please learn to differentiate between the two. A spirit animal is a guide, from which one can learn life lessons and such. It is not license to go around acting like that animal, believing one IS that animal and making a general fool of yourself to others who actually know something about the concept.

Because internet quizzes and tests are so accurate, since they only have a few options. Have you ever taken any real personality tests, such as those given by licensed psychologists? The MMPI-2 might be a good start, although you might want to be wary of that built-in lie detector. The Jung-based Meyers-Briggs is also a possibility.
You also must remember that your biases are directing you toward your chosen answer. Of course, you're not going to pick what's RIGHT and what APPLIES to you the most, because you KNOW that ANOTHER answer will get you that prittee WOLF picture at the end. Am I close?
i still strugle with walking on two feet . its some how easier to walk on all fours.
Please consult with a qualified ENT doctor. You might have an vestibular issue if you are othewise physically healthy, but have trouble remaining bipedal unassisted. I highly doubt that you are descended at all from these individuals (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/article738153.ece). (Oh yes, wolfie-wannabes, be jealous!)
My personality is like a wolf
So you are family-oriented, outgoing and social? Wonderful! It's a relief to know that someone actually understands and appreciates the true wolf personality!
my best best friends are mostly related to wolfs in their spirit animal way.
Whew! Good thing they're using their ability to be unique to imitate others! (Or is this just a common teenage trait overall?)
i realy dont understand why peopel should have to give resperct to teachers if they dont get it from them first? give respect to get respect ya know.
Obviously you're unfamiliar with the concept of superiors and the concept of "I call you haul." Your ability to blend in with any sort of working environment will be greatly handicapped by this outlook. I suggest you learn to do what you're asked (heaven forbid this includes requests to do homework, classwork, and in-class activities), and if you are indeed being abused/harassed/assaulted by any of your superiors, please get in touch with someone who can contact the proper authorities. Not participating in school because you want to be the next Rebel Without A Cause is not a form of rebellion...it is disrespect to your teachers (who are trying to help you learn), your parents (who seem to care enough to want you to learn), and mostly, yourself. Don't cheat yourself out of the desire to learn simply because someone else is forcing it. High school biology is actually the basic learning grounds if you are at all interested in wildlife biology and management. After all, you must go to kindergarten before you go to college, and to go to college, you must WANT and STRIVE to learn more, even if you don't quite know your particular path in life yet. It's great you like the wolfies and all, but consider what you can do with that, where you can go and most of all, WHAT you need to get there (and FFS, don't go around saying that you want to be the next Shaun Ellis (http://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/2007/04/national-geographics-stunt-television.html)).
it maks me mad cuz some things in this world aren't rigth.
Great! Go out and do something about it: are you old enough to vote? Do you volunteer regularly at a homeless shelter or humane society? Do you participate in politics or keep up with what's happening in remote countries that most Americans can't even point out on a map (oh dear, a geography requirement!)? Do you contact your state congressman or senator on a regular basis to let him/her know what you think on any particular topic at hand? Are you regularly active in your community, like participating in sponsored events or attending city council meetings? Do you donate to agencies where you KNOW your money will go to a useful cause (instead of justified terrorism, more fund-raising, or mass mailings)? Do you actually go out and be a part of the helping effort when you are on school break, such as helping fix homes in a poverty-stricken area or even something like Habitat for Humanity?
Or are you of the mindset that putting your name on a dinky Internet Petition will be enough?
Change starts with yourself and your local community as much as it does by righting wrongs in this world. Just because you don't have the massive funding to sway the government doesn't mean that you can't make a difference somewhere.
like who should be the boss of who? and who should be popular or not.
D'aw. Ish shomeone not popular? Are those evil parents and teachers and other various adults being so overbearing that you can't even pick your nose in private?
The sooner you learn that popularity is not a contest and you are responsible for your own actions, the happier you will be.
it pisses me off some times and it feels like i may erupture like a volcano at any time.
You might consider seeing a counselor about this. While this is par for normal in adolescence, if you feel as if you are a danger to yourself or others, you might need help.

I have as much a right to say them as you do to disagree with me. If you want a list of basic rights, check out the Constitution.
And that would be "You don't have the right."
2 i dont need to see a counsular its not my fault ive been bullied my entire life?
So I guess it's to much to expect that you pick yourself up by your bootstraps and go on? I was low on the social totem pole once too. Making yourself into a victim will just hinder your ability to move higher and go on with life. C'mon, I'll even give you the benefit of the doubt: you're better than that and we both know it. Stop blaming others. As I said before, if you are truly being assaulted or abused, contact the proper authorities who can help. A true lack in self-esteem is not solved by pretending you're something you're not. My recommendation for a therapist still stands.
3 i am much smarter than alot of people in my grade yet i skipped aa grade long ago to be in this one witch i could still skip right now!!!:D
I believe GhostBat has this covered...but I would like to know, if you are able to skip this grade, why haven't you? Ability is measured by actually doing something, not writing about it. I've known people who've been driving for 30 years who still cannot parallel park; dog trainers who still cannot get a dog to come on command off-leash around distractions; and self-described math nuts who still can't calculate a 20% tip. You think you can skip this grade? Do it...but not for me or for anyone here. Do it for yourself, your teachers, and your parents.
After all, I can bench my body weight, I just choose not too because I'm too confident in my ability to impress other people by saying that I can. Hence why I'm not at center stage at the Arnold Fest this year.
4i just came here cuz i thought i had some one too talk to. but i guess even with my oun kind still only few of yew are on my side .. i guess i realy dont belong in this world.
Why do you need someone with whom to talk? It's really stupid to continue to further delusions of this type, so I'm just trying to give you a kick in the ass so we might converse as people. Obviously, I failed.

Oh, and since I'm writing in this thread, I might actually participate :D, hence the double-post.
I would have to go with realism, skepticism and cynicism, if only because existentialism and nihilism were pretty depressing and led to some not-so-great habits that are thankfully no longer habits.
Of course, if it's not obvious already, the realism part comes in mighty handy a lot of the time :beerchug:

Read the Republic.
I am sort of neo-platonist myself; I also like Tolstoy, Marx, and St. Thomas Aquinas.
Skepticism, Stoicism (kinda), Realism.
And to pull a D&D:
True Neutral - more of the 9th and 11th Variety (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TrueNeutral) though.
It may have another name for all I know, but basically - I do nothing and believe nothing without thinking it through. Unless it involves my rights as a person or the rights of another human being who is innocent by all legal means (ie. not a criminal), I really don't care what you do.
If it involves money or the Economy - naturally to be Fiscally Conservative is the more logical route (please, don't aggravate me on this - I so hate being aggravated). But I'm Socially Liberal when it comes to other people.
I'm really not into -isms myself. Not big on Philosophy either. All I care about is me and my loved ones. Also the weak - I have an inborn need to protect, defend, fight, and by any means necessary to insure the survival of those I'm protecting.
If I see the evil picking on the weak, naturally I must do anything to protect them.
Ah, but then again, I'm being selfish when it's a perfect stranger. When it's a stranger, I only feel the desire to save them because usually they owe me something - that's their life.
After all, I'm not morally obligated to save them - they should learn to fight for themselves like I did all those years.
Anyway, if that has an actual name - I don't know of it.
Also, change isn't something I regularly believe in - I see no need to change what works. And if it doesn't work, then we should look to our past to find the answers. Things in the past worked, but we changed them - hence why they don't work now. But people want to go in the wrong direction, you think more of what screwed it up in the first place will work? Stupid.
So I'm into History big-time. I look to the past for answers, the proven. If things did not work in the past then we must go in an opposite direction. We should leave things up to the will of the people, not the supposed elite.
That's what I believe in. In short, unless it involves violation of rights, I don't care.
