Keepin yall in DA LOOP before I lose internet and get malaria/dengue fever/step on a landmine. Will probably have net in Chian mai at least though.
Hi mom and dad!
We flew from Chengdu to Guanzhou China, and arrived in Bangkok, thailand several days ago. amazing city. Danielle and I take a sleeper train north to chiang mai tomorrow, stay there for 2 days. we can ride elephants, do whitewater rafting on a bamboo raft, take an ATV rides through the jungle, and more. We stay with a local hill tribe (have you seen the ones on national geographic with the extended necks and neck rings? thats them!).
From there we take a bullet-speedboat south across the entire country (8 hour
ride) to lang prabang in Laos, and stay there for awhile. These speedboats are supposed to be amazingly fast, its like a slim boat with a rocket engine. We'll stay awhile to do some
sightseeing of the city. We're going to see the plain of jars and some other sights, which we're told are *mostly* clear of landmines.
We fly out of lang prabang to Siem Reap, Cambodia (because to hell with that overland route) and stay there until christmas day, doing the angkor wat temple and all of the big sights. Take a train to Phenom Pehn, overnight there.
Then we Fly from Phenom Phen to Phuket, thailand on christmas, take a bus/train to Krabi and spend over a week there doing beach stuff. (they have the famous island from "the man with the golden gun, bungie jumping, horseback rides of the whole island, and lots of other cool tourist traps, beaches everywhere, etc). We booked our own Bamboo bungalow located right on the beach, it sounds pretty awesome, kind of looks like something out of giligans island. We're a 2 hour speedboat-hop from some great islands like koh phi phi and koh samui. We'll probably rent motorcycles as well to make overland travel more convienent.
In this time we'll try to swing a day or two in Malaysia as well. Singapore and vietnam had to get cut from this trip but we may hit them and Japan during the Chinese new year, and then India on spring break.
Jan 2 we fly back into bangkok and do some more time here. Then we Fly Jan 5
from BKK to Shanghai, China and spend a week there. We come back from
Shanghai back "home" to Chengdu on Jan 12.
