Imagine a world of glass. Everything is clear, unblemished, perfect. This is not our world. Our world is dark at its core, tainted by those who roam its lands. Our world is stained glass.

~+~+~+~

Third time's the charm? For those of you who don't remember or haven't participated in the previous two attempts at this LARP, the setting is the British Isles in the mid-14th century. This is a world where humans, daemons, angels, ghosts, and nether creatures roam about, though the latter four either remain unseen or hide their true form. There are, of course certain sects to the races...well, most of them...

Humans
~Priests-Gifted with the ability to use magic and able to hold their own in combat.

~Knights-Excellent in combat, but not very gifted with magic, if at all.

~Bards-Roaming minstrels, excellent with magic, but not so good at fighting.

~Hunters-Stealthy fighters. No magic to speak of, but they can use talismans and fight very well.

~Inquisitors-Decent fighters, excellent with magic, will pursue targets relentlessly.

Daemons
~Sins-More often evil, quite powerful with dark magic. Weakness is holy magic. Also excellent fighters.

~Worms-Lesser daemons, not as powerful as most, but very helpful to their masters.

~Myths-Daemons that take the forms of mythological creatures. More often good than evil. Great with magic and good fighters.

~Devils-Unalligned daemons. No price can buy them. They work only for their own gains. They oft deceive those who can help them in their pursuit of power.

Angels
~Fallen-typically wingless, weak with magic but ecxellent in combat.

~Angels-regular angels, great with magic and great fighters.

~Seraphim-High angels. Very powerful with magic, but they lack speed and can't fight very well.

Ghosts
~Spirits-They haunt...or guide...

~Dybbuks-They possess.

Nether Creatures-the spawn of angels and demons. Typically have some sort of deformity. Very often self-exiled. Good with both dark and holy magic and are average fighters.

A Note on Weaponry-Crossbows and weapons like it weren't invented until the 17th century, so you will unfortunately have to stick to regular bows. All blades are welcome!
I'm really hoping that this one can get deeper into the story than the past two attempts. I just can't help having an erge to see it completed.

Abel, on horseback, entered into the streets of London. He was weary from his journey and sought the nearest Church, where he could rest for the night. Sadly, though he had traversed this city before, he found himself lost. He stopped his horse and looked around.

"Odd," he said to himself. "Where am I?"

Since then, he has journeyed as a king's knight, mostly on diplomatic or religious work. He has only returned to his family's manor a few times since he moved to London.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Having just returned to London, Tristan was making his way through back to the holy church where he would present some letters to the bishop. As he walked, he noticed a man with a confused expression on his face.

"Sir," he called out to the man in black. "Are you lost?" Tristan stepped down from his horse. "If you are, perhaps I can be of assistance."

When seen in true form he still resembles a 3'6"human boy only with grey skin on his back are small leathery wings charred and torn and a 6'long prehensile lizard like tail with a spear like tip his eyes are a bronze-ish colour, but somehow in either form he is seen to most as cute much to his aggravation.

Bio:Raum has been around for a very long time unfortunately during his youth he stole the ring of Greed and was punished by it the ring itself, from then on he was locked in young form he would never mature until a human broke the curse the catch was Raum couldn't trick them into it, they had to know the truth of what they were doing and human don't tend to help Devils they were more likely to kill him and they tried a few times. Suffice it to say despite his absolute hatred of being limited by a ten year old frame, he found it useful. He used this cute exterior to great effect though he does run into snags when it comes to age limits. He is very intelligent but is easily provoked and petty proven by many of his schemes, he's ruined many a lord and lady for their ignorance and insults, he's also weaseled his way into the families of nobility from time to time, leaving before the caught on to the fact that he wasn't getting any older as time passed. Regarded as a con-artist, a theif and assasin by those that know of his true nature he is respected by name, he lets on that he chose his form, even though it's forced upon him.
****************************

Raum had just finished ruining a smugglers business for his 'pint sized' comment two weeks ago, the bastard soon found himself in jail for the murder of a young nobleman. Raum just laughed to himself as he screamed "I didn't do it!" Over and over again.

Raum was running low on coin so it was time to play the part of street urchin, as he came across two humans one lost the other offering the other aid. Raum had to work quickly if he were to worm his way into their pockets besides the knight looked like he could lead to more gold in the long run.

He placed himself infront of the pair "I can show you the way m'lords, jus two silver's." Trying to look as downtrodden as he could, Raum stared pleadingly upward at the two. "Please M'lords let me show you, nobody knows London like I do." It was hard trying to sound like some uneducated beggar, it almost hurt to dumb himself down for them, but it usually worked, after this he probably worm his way into some rich family.

"Hello," Abel said to the knight. "And hello you to you, youngst-" His eyes caught the glint of light from the ring on the boy's finger. The pattern was familiar, like something he had seen one before. He couldn't place it, but he had seen it somewhere before. "-er," he finished a few breaths later. "If you could lead me to the Church, I'd appreciate it, though I sadly cannot pay you, for I have no money myself."

This boy...whatever he is, I'd better not cross him, Abel thought.

As a rule, Tristan was wary of those down on their luck. As such, he gave the boy a critical eye for a moment and then loosened up. "The church? I'm heading in the same direction. Well, boy, if you may, please guide us in the right direction," he said, digging out a few coins from his pocket, flipping two silver coins towards the lad.

Lau
05-11-2010, 10:13 PM
Raum snatched the coins from the air, he tested the validity of the coin by biting down on the edge, there were people here and there that didn't use real silver, a soft metal like gold. "Thankyou M'Lord," He nodded to the knight shooting a brief glare toward the cheap priest "this way." He moved on ahead, it was easy to figure why a priest was heading for the church but, the issue was him not knowing the way few priests wandered away from their own church. What was more interesting was why a Knight had business in a church, but more than likely he had some sins to absolve, Knights could be sordid bunch behind all that honor and dignity they were still just human.

"You gonna sit there all day? Come on!" He called back to them. Raum saw this city built finding his way around wasn't an issue, it was all the muggers, bandits, sure they were just human but Raum would have to play the helpless child until no one was looking and in the streets of London there's always someone looking.

Abel followed the boy. As he followed the boy along, he felt a familiar stabbing pain in his wrists. He didn't have to look at them to know that fresh blood was seeping into the clean bandages there. He gritted his teeth and tried to ignore the pain.

"So, if I may ask, Sir Knight, why exactly are you going to the church?" Abel asked.

kathryn
05-12-2010, 01:07 PM
"You may ask. I'm charged with delivering the bishop some letters and packages that I received on my travels. Since the first of the Holy Crusades, the King, god save him, has charged several knights to serve local churches for a few years after being knighted. I am in my last year of serving before the church releases me back into the service of the country," he explained, patting the pouch that held the said documents.

"Now, if I may, who are you and what business do you have with the church? You are not dressed like any man of the cloth I have met, so excuse my rudeness if you are one."

((OOC: Sorry about the sudden disappearance. I got caught up in a Mortal Kombat game...))

"I am Father Abel Ravenna," he said, "and I have come back to London for the first time in several years to check up on her churches. An alarming trend has been spreading though the Church, being that the priests have started taking money in exchange for the absolution of the people's sins. My order is trying to fight the taking of indulgences, so that the impoverished will not be left to the torment of Hell. It seems, though, that we are alone in this endeavor, as every church that I have been to since getting the assignment has been taking indulgences."

A small groan of pain managed to escape him as he spoke. He hoped that it would go unnoticed. If not, perhaps he would be able to blame it on something else.

Lau

Raum listened as he kept his pace, they weren't too far off from the church. Something was up, he hadn't met any of his contacts in a while so local news of drak dealings was little slim, but corruptions was as easy to a human as it was to breath, nothing to get excited over. But still he had an interesting chance here, so he breifly turned "Church is jus 'round that bend there m'lords, but Sir Knight when we's get there I've got somethin to ask if that's okay." The frightened and inncoent behavior was one of the best covers to hide suspiscious questions within, pity often clouded minds to the fact their being scammed.

As a human, Tristan did feel pity for the poor. But as a knight, he also realized that good deeds are not always rewarded.

"It is good to meet you, Father. If you ever need help in your quest to reestablish a just clergy in the holy church, then I am your man," he commented, also knowing of what Abel was saying. "My name is Sir Tristan de Lynter. If you ever need me, just call."

As they turned the corner, and saw the church, Tristan held back. "Go on ahead Father. It seems that our guide wants my attention, and I may as well give it to him." He turned to the poor youth. "Lad, ask your question, but please be quick about it."

"Y-yes....Ummmm, ah I-ahh I want to be a squire sir." Raum knew it wouldn't last but perhaps he could learn some things about the knighthood while he played the part, Knights weren't poor and had access to more than the average folk so tagging along would prove useful if not profitable.

On the flip side of things it was common question, many boys poor or otherwise serve and learn from Knights as squires simply to free themselve of poverty, but not all succeeded, nor were all accepted many Knights were obsessed with the division of the classes, refusing to alow the lower class to raise themselves up, but Raum didn't care either way he was going to try his luck.

Perhaps the service of a knight could help, Abel thought as he trotted his horse toward the church.

"Welcome, sir," the stableboy said. "Shall I take care of your horse?"

"Indeed," Abel said, grimacing as he dismounted, his wrists on fire.

The boy took his horse as he walked the rest of the way to the threshold. As he stepped into the sanctity of holy ground, his wrists stopped bleeding and the holes sealed themselves shut again. He sighed from the relief of his pain. He spotted the archbishop and started toward him.

Tristan was a little taken back. A squire? Sure, some had asked if he could take on a son or nephew as a page or hired hand, but... to make a squire out of one so young and impoverish... But then he thought back to when he was a child.

"So, you wish to, what was the word, bear my shield? Well, now that I think about it, I could use someone to help me. I'll give you a week. If you can't do the work, which will be hard, I'll send you on your way. As you are young, I'll try to make the work easier. Now, if I find potential in you, I may find it in myself to train you." He smiled at this last part. "Now, what is your name?"

(OOC:Sry for the delay work sucks need I say more:))
"Eric Raum..." He spoke nevrously, bringing a look of joy to his face as he continued "Thankyou, m'lord, thankyou, I promise I wont let you down." Raum was aware how seriously Knights took their training, he may have been bound to the form of a child but he was more capable than he appeared, but he had to be careful, and worse yet he had to continue to pander to this role, appearing the uneducated and ignorant of things beyond his years that would be hard part simply because his ego would get the better of him now and again, hopefully the Knight wouldn't catch these slips and they were bound to happen.

"Alright, Eric. Now, for your first job as my squire, take my horse to the stables and stay there until I come out. If I find that anything is missing from my saddle, or that the horse hasn't been rightfully taken care of, which I will check after my business, I will hunt you down and deal with you as befitting a thief." he said this in a serious, dark voice.

Without hearing what the lad said, he turned and walked towards the church, flipping the reins to Eric. "As soon as I leave the church, be sure to come out with the horse and be ready to leave."

Lau
05-20-2010, 11:34 AM
Raum nodded, catching the reins and guided the horse into the stable, he'd done this kind of work before but not under the guise of a squire, but that was some time ago. Caring for horses wasn't exactly a skill he practiced, so he had the stable boy guide his actions, it was cheating the task set to him but it'd be done, it was fed it's hooves and shoes checked over and Raum waited eyes open for the Knights return from the church.

As Tristan entered through the heavy doors of the church, he saw Father Abel going towards the archbishop. A friar in white came forward. "Good morrow, Sir Tristan!" Tristan smiled, remembering the familiar face.

"Hello, Friar Reamer. I am here to deliver some letters from Bishop Henry in York to the Archbishop. I was also wondering what my next mission would be..." he pulled out the package of papers and handed them to the Friar.

"Ah. Yes, well, I shall see to it that the Archbishop gets these. If I hear anyone tell of your next mission for the church, I shall relay the message to you." They bowed and parted ways.

Tristan made his way to the confessionals.

"Father Abel Ravenna," the archbishop said when he turned to see Abel walking toward him. "I am glad that you could come. I was hoping to speak with you."

"That is why I am here, your grace," Abel said, noticing the shifty look to the Archbishop's eyes.

"Indeed it is," the archbishop said.

A friar in white came up to the pair of them and handed the archbishop an bundle of letter.

"Ah, thank you, Friar Reamer," the archbishop said. "Would you please show the father to the visitor's chambers?"

"Yes, your grace," Reamer said. "Follow me, Father."

kathryn

Tristan knelt in the confession booth, soon followed by a priest. "Have you come in the spirit of contrition?" the priest asked.

"Yes. Forgive me, father, for I have sinned. It has been a week since my last confession, and since then, I have made a terrible sin," Tristan muttered, making a cross sign. He never told the father of his darkest sin, but he never told anyone but god of that one, for fear that he would be cast out and killed. "I killed two men, and injured many more. Though they were thieves, bent on robbing and killing me, I still cannot forgive myself for what I have done."

The priest listened to Tristan, and forgave him. Soon, after Tristan prayed seven Hail Marys, he got up and left the confessional booths, slowly walking to the Archbishop's study, where he usually meets with the man. He knew that Abel was talking with the Archbishop, so he wasn't in a hurry.

Abel, having been led to his room, dropped his things on the floor and shooed the friar away. He waved a hand over his bags and spoke a few words in an arcane tongue before he headed out the door of his room. The incantation would see to it that his belongings were not bothered while he was away from them. He quietly lurked through the corridors. It wasn't long before the priest heard voices.

"How much would you have me pay to rid me of the taint of my sins?" a female voice asked quietly.

"Two pounds for the theft and twenty for the murder," a familiar voice spoke in hushed tones. "And hurry with it. I have business to attend to."

Abel peered around the corner and witnessed the archbishop accepting an indulgence from a finely dressed lady, who then hurried off. Abel ducked out of sight as the archbishop's eyes swept the corridor to ensure that he was alone. He heard the man's footsteps echo away down the hall. Abel's suspicions were confirmed. He now had to commit to the task appointed to him.

He turned and headed back in the direction of his room, hoping that Tristan would still be around in the morning when he left. He knew he would need the knight's protection soon. What he did not know was how soon...

kathryn

When Tristan got to the room, he waited a while until the Archbishop entered as well.

"Sir Tristan. I trust that everything went well?" the Archbishop asked.

"Yes, Father... er... For my next mission, I was hoping to escort Father Abel, the man you just got finished speaking to. With your blessing of course," he bowed to the Archbishop, not exactly certain why he wanted to do it.

"That is fine. I was going to assign you to him anyway. I fear that he might not be who he seems... Please keep an eye on him for us, Sir Tristan."

"Yes sir," he said, turning to leave.

"Oh, and, if you could, please stay in one of our rooms for the time being. Friar Reamer can guide you to a usable room."

Tristan nodded and left the room. Instead of going to his room, he went out to the stables, taking the side door and entering directly. "Raum!"

Lau

Raum waited impatient;y as they knight took care of his business, without knowing where he would be or how long it'd take him to finish his business it was best not to leave.

"Ah, there you are. It looks like we're staying the night. You are to stay with me in my room. Come on, hopefully they've served some food for us, unless you were able to get some from the stable hands." He started off back into the church, looking back at the boy.

Lau

The the mere mention of food and a roof over ones head would cause a wide eyed excitement in anyone who struggled to live in squalor trying to copy the desperate took a long time for Raum to master, but he managed it well enough over the years.

"Yes sir, no I mean I- I..." the excited babbling was a good facade, stopping to breath and organize ones thoughts "No I haven't eaten sir...ummm sorry sir and thankyou." apologizing for his confused babbling, and thanking the knight for the kindness of not making him sleep out in the barn, it was all to cultivate a sense of pitty, and usually worked. He calmly moved to follow the knight into the church, a deplorable place but it would do.

(Huh. Holy ground does nothing to a squirt like him? Interesting)

Tristan rolled his eyes at the excitement of the boy and walked to the room, only having to ask a person for directions once. The room was small, but large enough for the boy and himself, with a platter of food on the table. "Eat. If you need to relieve yourself, there's this bucket," he remarked, tapping the covered chamber pot with his foot, "and if you need to sleep, take the bed. I will sleep on the floor, as it is more comfortable to me that way."

Raum delved into the food without hesitation, but for a moment he broke character, as Tristan pointed out the bucket, it made him gag. Normally anyone that lived on the street wounldn't be effected by that. But even Raum preferred something a little higher class than that. Hopefully the Knight wouldn't catch that slip, but who watches that closely?

Tristan did catch it, but didn't think anything of it. He sighed. "Yeah, I don't like it either. The guest rooms are quite... bad, but it works. The abbots empty the pots each morning. If you need privacy, I'll leave the room for you."

As Abel read through his books, searching for information he needed within the pages, he heard the creaking of the hinges as his door opened. He turned to face the intruder, finding him shrouded in black.

"Who are you?" Abel asked.

The intruder touched the tip of his finger to Abel's chest and searing pain lashed across his back, as thought a whip had slashed across it. He opened his mouth, but no cry of pain came out. His wrists started to drip with blood as holes opened in them, just large enough for a nail to fit through.

"You wish to know who I am," the whispering rasp stated. "You should have asked what I am."

The intruder's finger pulled away and he vanished out through the door, leaving Abel to crumple to the floor in pain. His vision dimmed and he was unconscious.

((Computer's down at home. I have to use the library, but Inky said he may be coming back. *Fingers crossed* ))

Abel awoke in the early hours in a pool of his own blood. He struggled to his feet, checking his wounds. They had managed to clot while he was out, thus protecting his life. He looked down at his blood and he knew that this church had become a den of sin. He dipped his fingers in his blood and began writing arcane symbols on the wall.

He drew the characters of a sacred spell that he had learned over the years of his life. The spell was designed to remove the last remnants of the church's sanctity. Since this church had already proven itself as a place of hidden evil, it was his duty to condemn it. His writing finished, he left his room to find Friar Reamer walking the corridor.

"Father Ravenna," he said, unable to mask the shock on his face, "Sir Tristan Cannon has decided to lend you his services. Shall I take you to him?"

"Please," Abel said, keeping his eyes on the friar as he led him down the hall.

In the morning, Tristan was first to rise. Quietly, he washed up at a small table in the corner which held a crude pitcher of water, a bowl, and a rough towel. He dried himself off.

"Boy, get up," he ordered, nudging Raum awake, who had fallen asleep in the bed. Raum, whether he went asleep or not, yawned and sat up in the bed. "Use the chamber pot. I'll be outside."

Tristan exited the room, giving the boy some privacy. He leaned against the wall, brushing his hair out with his hands and pulling it back to braid.

Raum was roused from slumber abruptly, barely rembering to say "yes m'lord." And going about typical morning habits before fixing his ruffled clothes and patting down his hair. "Good morning." He kept a look out for anyone who needed him, but took the time to talk.

"We have yet to discuss your routine, Raum. Every morning, before you do anything else, I expect you to wash your hands and face. Next, if I have yet to wake up, check over all our supplies, my weapons and armor, and the horse. Make sure that my armor is clean and that my sword is ready for use. If everything is in shape, you will wait until I wake up before we eat breakfast, if we eat.

"At first, I will only allow you to do basic things, such as lead my horse, or help me with my armor. Later, when I deem you worthy, I shall entrust you to buy supplies and carry my shield and sword. I will train you to use all my weapons, so if I ever fall in battle, it will be your responsibility to protect yourself.

"If you prove to be a good squire and a just person, I shall adopt you into my household, as my father adopted me into his, and you shall be a knight. I pray that you are up to this challenge, young man."

Had this not been part of his plan Raum would've been less inclined to listen to the knights instructions instead he nodded dutifully "Yes m'lord, I wont disappoint you M'lord." When Abel saw Tristan and the boy standing in the corridor, he thanked Friar Reamer and shooed him away, nearly having to shove him down the corridor. He continued on to meet the knight.

"Sir deLynter," he said. "I am glad you have decided to lend me your services. We will leave after a short breakfast, but we will not break bread in this place. It's sanctity is lost. Come. We must leave this place."

He continued on, trying to leave the damned church as soon as possible.

(AAH, sorry, there are no excuses. > < FYI, it's not Cannon. I changed the last name for this version, but I'll just pretend you said the right version. Sorry for not noticing before)

"Father Ravenna," he said as a sort of greeting, nodding his head. "We shall break bread elsewhere then. Wait for me outside, I need a moment longer to gather my armor." He turned to his young squire. "Raum, get my horse and await with the good Father. If you find yourself waiting too long, check over the supplies for me. If anything is found in want and you do not tell me, I shall hold you responsible." With that, he went back into the room and closed the door, quickly putting on the armor and strapping himself into the weapons and plate mail.

Abel ducked into the stables before another friar could catch him. He knew that if they saw him, they would try to make him stay and inquire about the bloody marks on the wall of his borrowed room. He did not have the time for an inquisition and so simply kept away from the clergy of the church. Inside the stables, he patted the side of his black horse's neck and went about readying the horse to ride out.

"Raum, is it?" Abel asked the youth. "That name seems terribly familiar...where have I heard it before?"

Nezkith was walking down by the stables asa he always did at this time of the morning when he heard a voice coming from one of the stalls. Not wanting to be seen eaves droppping he hurried to the side of the stables to catch what the person was saying.

"That voice sounds so familiar to me...," he said to himself. "Could it be...?"

Abel hurriedly saddle his horse and checked his gear to make sure that everything was secure. Satisfied with the state of his belongings, he took hold of the reins and started guiding his horse out of the stables, hoping that the knight and his odd squire would follow.

When he left the stables, his wrists again started to burn with a phantom pain. Abel gasped from the pain and used the horse beside him to steady himself. He stared at the ground as he worked to push the pain from his mind.

He looked up once he had dulled his pain and saw white hair. He rubbed his eyes, thinking he was seeing things and looked again. The white-haired person was still standing there beside the stables.

"Nezkith?" Abel asked. "Is that you?"

Nezkith shook his head in disbelief. It had been nearly eight years since he had seen the priest and things had not been left off on a good note. Pulling a rose from inside his robes, he brought it up to his nose to smell it, even thought the scent had faded from it several decades ago.

"My dear Abel, it has been too long," he said. "I do believe the last we saw each other was in Prague when those deamon scares were going on." A faint smile appeared on his face. "I'm truly sorry 'bout leaving you to deal with that...little...mess. I hope you can forgive me."

Abel smirked at Nezkith's apology. He remembered well what had happened in Prague and, though he had nearly lost his life that night, he was in no mood to begrudge the devil he knew.

"That may just be the understatement of the century," Abel said. "Little mess...but I am glad to see you again. All is forgiven, but don't even think about pulling something like that again or I'll gut you with a rusty pair of shears." He grinned widely. "I'll introduce you to my new traveling companions once they finish up in the stables."
