Anybody out there a hard core mountain biker? Do you race? Where? What kind of bike do you have? Are you sponsored? Anybody a "roadie"?

I use to MTB. That was before a spinal fusion. I was working on gettng a Cannondale Gemini, but that dreams long gone since the doc said no more. (So I guess now i become a roadie.... iwe. at the very leat the doc says I can still do low level things like the pipes and such.) I've never raced, but my MTB friends did.

Ouch. That really sucks. You are aware that "roadie" means roadbiker in cyclist terms right? Anyway I have a Specialized M4 Epic Disk. Shimano XT shifting, disc brakes, Fox racing shocks (rear shock with "brain" technology), and Cane Creek rims.

Yep. I did MTBing for a couple of years, so I know the basic terms that are used. (for the most part. I'm a bit rusty being out of it for about a year now.)

Interesting pick in bike. I looked into a Specialized once, then decided Cannondale had a better selection for what I was looking to do. I know the Gemini depending on model runs about 1800.00 and up. Specialized although a bit less expensive can still run on the high end for the newer bikes. What'd yours run you? What's the give in the front and back? Cane Creek... never heard of them. Link?

Yes it is an interesting bike. I love it. I would've stayed with my Stumpjumper but I started racing last year so it was too heavy for racing quality for me so I switched. My bike ran me about 3,000 cause I use "top of the line" parts (my dad helped with the money). But I saved a lot. Considering I bought the frame and built it myself. If I had just bought it fresh from a dealer it would've been about 5,000.

As of "give in the front and back", I'm guessing you mean how much travel in the shocks. The front has 100mm of travel and the rear has 90mm of travel.

The Cane Creek Link (http://www.canecreek.com/) should take you to their home page.

Travel... Give... same difference. LOL.

I don't believe I havent' heard of Cane Creek until now. It looks decent. Do you race with Cane Creek? Or do you have a/another sponser?

WareW-Believer

I actually don't have a sponsor and Cane Creek is definately decent. I only use it for my wheels and headset though. Everything else though is Shimano. Except for the shocks which are of course Fox shocks.

I never got sponsered. Wasn't in it long enough to even try for it. Are you hoping to be sponsered? I know there's a decent race near NYC, but I can't think of that one's name... I know it has 'kill' in it though. LOL.

Fox and shimano are definately good for most parts. I am trying to rememeber another company that does decent things, but I can't think of it. Once I rememeber I'll let you know.

I'm definately hoping to get sponsored. I'm looking into a bike shop called Genesis Bicycles for sponsorship right now as soon as I get reaquanted with everybody there. I say "reaquanted" because I used to enter a lot of their fund raisers and things but then school got in the way and I haven't done anything for them in a while. I'm hoping it'l work out.

Anyway I'd love to know the name of the NYC race. And I look forward to finding out that company your talking about since you can't remember at the moment.

I remembered! YAY!

Plattekill, NY (It's near NYC.) It's a ski resort that offers MTBing in the off season and hold some races as well. Check it out at: http://www.plattekill.com/biking.html

Still no luck remmebering the other bike shop though. We'll see what another day brings.

Thanks for that link. Unfortunately I might not be able to enter since I have a race on the 7th of May in Pennsylvania. The race there might be on the 8th. But thanks anyway, I've been looking for mtn biking areas around here. (NJ aint really a friendly mtn biking state)

I wish you luck in remembering the bike shop. :D

Here's something on bicycles-

- Their the most thermodynamicallyy efficient transportation vehicle ever created.
- They let you travel 3 times as far on a platefull of callories as you could walking.
- Their 53 times more energy efficient comparing food calories to gasoline calories in the average car.

Hey I love Mtbing. My backyard is pratically a mtb area. Well not really but behind my backyard and through a little bit of woods there is a mtb trail that I ride pratically all of the time. I don't race because my parents will not let me race. They say it is too big of a risk. Well there is one trail that connects to my neighborhood which is the advanced part that I ride the most. I love it. I find that mtbing lets me get all of my fustruations and anger out without hurting anyone. So long live the mtbing. :beerchug:

I couldnt agree with you more. The worst stuff I think would be that "Sting" stuff or whatever it's called. It's loaded with honey. Not the best idea for an energy gel. Other than that "Let Biking Rule".

You don't drink gatoraide when you ride do you? I seems unfortunately that its one of those few things that my stomach doesn't agree with when I'm biking. Mmmm bananas.....

Oh and:

As you can see it's not an energy anything. It's a Hans Rey vocab word I got from "Tread" the movie. Signed by Hans Rey himself. Sadly I didn't get Greg Herbold's autograph though.

No I drink it afterwards. But any ways yeah bannanas are good. kind of reminds me of that one line in Hollergirl every time I eat them. you know this shit is bannana b a n a n a n a s. The funny thing is they don't spell bannanas right. Ahh what the heck who cares. Oh I get the AugerN thing now. Thanks for explaining it must be obvious that i don't get out much now. heh heh :p

Yeah pretty much. Then again I'm not out much either. Just on the trainer almost everyday. (Damn NJ weather) Got you a trainer? (not a person, the thing you put your bike on) Ah, and have you raced at all?

Yeah I have a trainer but don't use it much. I don't need to. The weather is usually nice down here in Ga.

Darn you. There's yet another reason why I should convince my mom to move me out of NJ. Got any races out there?
