Now this is not a rant directed toward the below average spellers that I so adore to kick in the groin, but just a question to those who are obviously more experienced and knowledgeable in the magic department. By this I mean the people that spell it ‘magik’. And ‘deamon’. And ‘cookie’.

Whenever I drag my eyes across one of these words, I subconsciously roll my eyes and take pride in my own superiority. Not really, I’m not that big an asshole, but I do kind of wonder if this intentional rending of the English language serves some sort of propose, besides making the poster feel more confident in his or her knowledge of the occult.

So, is there a good reason for the misspelling? Or, is it just the occult equivalent of donning a French accent, even though the person in question has never been to France and probably wouldn’t know the Eiffel tower from a coat hanger that has been run over multiple times?

As far as the word "daemon" is concerned...that IS the correct spelling. The english language lacks the latin "ae" leter, so two letters are used to represent it. It's pronounced the same either way, however.

I've seen the word "magick" used to describe true(supposedly) supernatural abilities and "magic" to describe tricks and optical illusions. But I'm not as familiar with the origins of that word; someone else is going to have to talk about that one.

And..."cookie"? Like Oreos? That's how I've always spelled it.

yes, magic is like card tricks, and making tigers turn into birds and the such.
and magick is used when talking about real magick, its really just to try and make people understand that magick, like runes and the such is different than cheap parlor tricks:cool:

But I do hate it when they say

Magickian.

How the fuck do you pronounce that?

The only reason the K is in there, is so that people can differentiate occult and fantasy.

I love both. Go Gandalf!

And daemon is spelled correctly. I took Latin 1. Funny course. Crazy brazillian woman. She thought I was chinese.

Daemon:

Originally came from the greek word Daimon, which meant "a divine spirit" usually a guardian of some kind.

It came to be "daemon" in latin, now meaning "a supernatural being". Ghosts and monsters, were all a "daemon" of some kind.

In modern english the word has become "demon" meaning "a supernatural being usually evil" or "an evil person". Thank you, Church of England. (they forced the meaning of evil into the word demon, which originally neither represented good or evil).

Magick was the original spelling of the word. Like all old english words, the spelling was changed to be simpler: Magic. The trend is as previously stated: Use the old version to describe the old real magick, and use the modern version to describe the modern illusionary magic.
