As I understand it, if you do have an animal self, you don't need to "release" it, it's already part of you. You just have to realize that.
But you can't actually become one, and definetely not physically a wolf.

You could try shutting your eyes and sleeping. Maybe you'll get lucky and run around on all fours, sniffing some dirt as a wolf. Been the subject of my dreams quite a few times. C;

Can you become a wolf/werewolf?
No. You show no wolfiness. You show angst. Now, can someone please tell me why everyone wants to know about wolves!? Watch discovery channel or something - other animals exist too.

To be honest, I saw wolves become an extremely popular animal after the Japanese animation "Wolf's Rain". Not that it wasn't an ok show or wolves aren't beautiful animals, but it shouldn't take an anime for people to give a shit about an animal, yannow? Maybe they should do one on orcas, next.

You can't become a werewolf. There. Why do people always come here trying to do this? And why is it always wolf? Why don't you want to be a Bighorn? I'm a Bighorn Therian and I'm okay!

I think people get the idea that is only werewolf maybe because of the name of the site. ??

I think people should read some of the actual content of a forum before posting. Names can be misleading. Hell, I once found a forum based largely in Buddhist-style enlightenment and it had some weird name like "Rabid goat" or "Rabid llama" or something.
