See if your local sources have a copy of these books:
The Werewolf Delusion by Ian Woodward
and
A Lycanthropy Reader: Werewolves in Western Culture by Charlotte F. Otten
These are two excellent references among many others which I believe will meet your needs, and they are great reads besides.
Also, if you scan old posts on this site you can probably pick up a few useful tidbits already posted.

You could try avatarsearch.com. But I'm not sure if it would help much or not.

Try Sabine Baring-Gould's Book of Werewolves. You can even find the entire text online now, as it is in public domain.

If you're looking for European-American aspects (as in Europeans that are now in America -ie: African-Americans-) you should be able to find all the info you need in Underworld I and II.
If you're talking about European and American aspects, Underworld is very American. Think your typical Hollywood werewolf. European myth is steeped a little more in folklore. Consider looking into the secret sect of the Nazis that Hitler wanted to behave like werewolves to broaden the topic.
Just my two cents.

Okay,
Back round on Eroupean weres, wolves were considered Satanic since they would eat flocks of sheep and other domestic animals. So, being witches were considered salves of Satan, they were also associated with wolves as familers. A woman riding a wolf would considered witch-craft. Wizards would be believed to get a pelt blessed by the Devil to transform into a wolf to do his bidding. Then, of course, the cursing of the innocent by-stander to become a wolf every full moon. Silver was the only thing that could them, and they were gifted with in-human strengh.
