ok, so i have noticed that a lot of males in the were community like haveing their hair long. or try to grow "lot" of facial hair, i.e. gotee, beard, five o'clock shadow?..
or some that cant have hair long for what ever reasons (work, religion, etc) they sometimes sort of wish they could. i have a few theories on why that is. perhaps they try to grow more hair to have as much hair possible, since animals are usually covered in fur. and thats a lot of hair.. heh..

what are your thoughts on this? is it a "were-thing" or just pure coicidence..?

Yes i definantly agree with you, i'm twenty and ever since highschool (grade 10) i wanted a full blown beard. Now that i can actually do that i realise what i looked like, i looked like a bear and the funny thing is who knows what they'll look like with facial hair. However my hairs not long but most people call me bear just because of it (classic werewolf spikes. so yes everything you said , to me looks right.

I've got the top part set up (little water, throw it back, throw my hat on, 15 minutes it's set. ha, that facial hair is going to be a problem, I don't think I could grow it long enough to cover my ear... Time'll tell I figure)

NOW! Onto the matter of claws...hmm

Well I am not a male but I have long hair, and tend to keep the rest of my body hair free...ya know shave my legs and all...*ahem*

But I think that men should either have long hair or no hair at all. I dont find short hair attractive.

So in being a were I don't like a lot of hair on myself but guys growr!

Hmmmmmm....facial hair...From my point of view, i think alittle shape up is very attractive and if you have the face for it, a goatee too .But I'm not really into dudes with long uncontrolable hair. If u can control it all brownie points to you, but nah. My neighbor has chest hair like a wolverine.

feel more natural and more animal like you know.. What makes you think that?

In nature (as far as I know), if an organism (aka. an animal) was to have overly long and shaggy hair, it would die. Long hair that gets tangled, matted, ripped out, would lead to infecttion... and so on. Long hair could get snagged on objects. Over heating from large amounts of hair or fur- What natural animal were you referring to Caution tape?

Figure I'll start from the top- Learn to write. I'm not going to take 5 minutes to decipher your posts. Use punctuation and proper english.

"Well animals do have long hair. Obviously you have not seen many wild animals. Wolves do. It may not be long, but compaired to ours they have a lot more than we do. You know its not that big of a deal its just how I feel, I didn't persecute your opinion so get off of it." I tried to edit your post into American-ized English, tell me if I missed something.

I live in the wilds of Rhode Island :p I see my share of critters pal- But thats not the point.

"It may not be long, but compaired to ours they have a lot more than we do."

Length of hair and quantity of hair are two different things. We (homosapiens) have hair on our heads (I'm just going with heads people) for warmth. We may do other things with it, style it, cut it, or what ever, but it's purpose there is to keep the top of our heads warm. Thousands of years of evolution has lead to us not needing large amounts of thicker, fuller hair (like other primates) all over our bodies (mutations, clothes, and breeding led to this). We do have fine hair on our bodies though, look at your arm if you dont' beleive me ("He's right!").

What I was trying to get to in my last post, was that animals hair doesn't tend to be long, wild, and shaggy. Like some people percieve it as. Animals take care of thier hair. If they don't, they die. Because of years of procreation(+mutatio ns) and evolution, thier hair doesn't get so long that it hinders them in thier lives (survival), like homosapiens can. Homosapiens live in different enviroments, so our hair can be long and hindering. So this "animal" look you were talking about, Could you now give an example of it now?

"its just how I feel I didn't persecute your opinion so get off of it."- Thats great and all, but this is a public discussion board. You put a thought into the public view, and it was read, and commented on. It has nothing to do with you as a person, just your comment. So don't take it personally. :)

Actually, m'dere. Not all animals would die with long hair. Think about llamas and Bison they both have very long pelts both of which suffer awful tangles that do snare. These creatures rarely die of infection when the hair is tugged out because of their thick hides and not to mention years of adapting to a life of long threads. Wolves too, a certain species that name escapes me also had very long fur and it also never caused problems. Its all just matters of evolution adaption. Animals that handle long hair just don't have it and the others that do can its just that simple.

Ah Point for MorganaFang http://www.werewolf.com/vb/images/icons/icon14.gif

"These creatures rarely die of infection when the hair is tugged out because of their thick hides "Could you link your source to this statement?

Any one know the body fat percentage for a Bison (a bison with large amounts of hair)? That'd be interesting to know, if small amounts of body fat and large amounts of hair go together for such an animal as Bison.

The name is Ender, not m'dere. :)

Actually I don't have a source really just know from experience that Buffalos don't die so easily. I go to the hills every year and where I camp always has pieces of buffalo on our little fire pit or the trees I assume it is the same buffalo because he has the same coloring and other feature that set it apart from others in the herd.

Btw Caution tape, don't be so sensitive he wasn't launching an attack at you. Besides ego is a good thing :D

when did age become the issue? Oh boy yeah well if you don't want to be discriminated for age then don't point it out and just act like a person. As far as we could all have know you could be 40 this is the internet and all things can be masked. Just got to contribute and not put much more into it.

Anyways back on the hair thing I wanna know which is more popular, goat-tees? or grizzly adam's beard?! I dig both hehe

I just thought of something it isn't the hair itself that makes a person more animalistic its the perception that it does so all that other junk really doesn't matter. Gods why didn't I think about that!

No- If an organism grows hair that is long enough to hinder it from getting food, shelter, or protect it's self from preditors, it will become weaker, probily die. But we've covered that to... So... I'm going to go chop down some trees

You doorknob! :P I'm saying from a HUMAN stand point another human having more hair just can be percieved as being more animalistic. Hair, associated with a furry pelt that covers all of an animal's body not necessarily long just covering.
Hehe wasn't this whole thing about people in the first place, Man I'm crosseyed now :shrug:hehe

Ok- WHY does having more hair then the average person, make a person percievable as more animalistic?

(larll we're getting somewhere now!)

Because in some cases it can give the illusion of fur even though the hair is just long, not exactly covering the body all over like fur. Its all kind of matters of association. Ever See the show grizzly adams? His nick name was after a bear but if a bear were to have long hair like adams it probably would trip all over the place. But Adams is given that nickname because his long hair and fuzzy beard can be associated with the fuzzy gruffness of a bear.

The answer I was looking for, was "The association of shaggy hair with animals is a steriotype. Brought on by hollywood and television"- I would of excepted "Mashed Potatos" also.

not just tv, hun, its been that way for years before tv. I mean look at mountain men. And what about the old reports of lycanthrops, hairiness as always been very associated with furry animals.

Shaggy hair implies a lack of attention to one's own appearance, which is a fairly animalistic mentality. It also implies the possibility of hygene-deficit, because who the hell knows what kind of condition your skin is under all that?

Clean-shaven skin is easier to keep clean and therefore implies a certain attention to hygene, which, conversely, is a fairly humanistic mentality.

MorganaFang
08-21-2003, 04:23 PM
and that too :p
Thats probably the huge reason I don't keep my hair long because I'm too lazy to care for it.

Ender
08-21-2003, 04:26 PM
Well if you don't want to drag it out, I guess you could say that :p

Side note*

"hygene-deficit" - I would think the dog to be the a good example of extreme hygene. The organism uses it's own tongue as t.p.

Still I say, Rock On you domesticated by products of artificial selection, Rock On. :buttrock:

Speaking of the "Brain Pain"- does any one know how much of x (not sure what the variable is) you burn or spend when you think?

Ok the technical jargin' now- When your brain makes connections to form thoughts, are you burning something that you intake with food or other sources of vitamens and/or minerals?

Thinking does indeed burn calories, and quite a few. Not sure what the actual numbers are.

This is what I think:
Hair has grown all over my head and body, and being that it grew that way on it's own - as well as the fact that it is physically attached to my person- I see it as a body part and I don't think I should go hacking at it with a razor for no good reason. It's probably meant to be there.
I grew myself two of those enormous sideburns that go in a straight line from the corner of my mouth, parallel to the jaw, up to a point half an inch below my ear. They go back too, like tigers' whiskers, and from the front they fluff out like the collars of fur that frame a wolf's face. I likes them.
Xzengrim has, in the past, been described as "disturbingly hirsute". And women (who shall go nameless) have been known to suggest that he shave his shoulders, or belly, which has fur you can comb (not that any of you needed to know that). So I think the first post is right: I think having a lot of natural hair makes me feel more feral. That, and I always feel sad when I look at those poor poodles (which didn't look great to begin with) that fat women carve up to look like little topiaries. That ain't right.

Xzengrim
08-30-2003, 01:45 AM
Hmmm... body hair IS gross... but only because it's hairy, if you catch my drift. Hairy is a texture that no one likes. Hairy is nasty. But furry is huggably soft. No one wants to see Grim's hairy self, but if I were covered with soft fur instead, everyone would want to pet me! That's what I think.
I'm too utilitarian to have any sense of style. I think that we should let the hair go, and cut it only if it gets to be a problem. Of course, that does not apply to women, who I still think should shave and primp excessively. Yes, I'm a male cheauvanist wolf... but I don't think the white straight suburban middle class male majority should be robbed of the right to tell women how to appear in public. It's all they have left!!
Mmmm... foxy!

Silly people, what about styling those fuzzy locks? I just got my hair done so now its really short in back but long in front(not a reversal mullet which I hate mullets all together). Personally, I've always been attracted to black hair and most especially devil beards on a guy. Right now I'm working on liviong vicariously through a gay friend of mine to put streaks of red in his beard.
