After Robbie Gould of the Chicago Bears made the field goal in the NFC Divisional Playoffs last season, all of the Seahawk's effort and hard work came to an end.
Regardless, the Seattle Seahawks had overcome many barriers over the course of their 18 games. First MVP of the 2005 season, Shaun Alexander, came down with an injury after the first regular season game against the Detroit Lions. Every Sunday more offensive linemen seemed to go down and eventually starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. The #1 offense of 2005 was sitting on the bench for the majority of the season, and if key defensive players weren't getting hurt they weren't making plays; yet the Seahawks still made it to the second round of the playoffs.
If anything, the Seahawks proved that victory is not achieved by star players, fate or luck. Victory is achieved through teamwork, a concept that many are still unable to grasp.

This thread will follow the Seahawks through the 07-08 NFL season. I don't imagine that many people will be interested enough to read this, but I find enjoyment in posting it regardless.

Jim Mora Jr, a Washington native and former defensive backs coach turned Head Coach for the Falcon's has lost his position with Atlanta. Mora, one of my favorite coaches in the league has been picked up by the Seattle Seahawks, and will serve as defensive backs coach / assistant head coach to Mike Holmgren.
The Seahawk's secondary needed some help anyway. Mora is happy to be back home in Seattle and if the gods conspire to have Mike Holmgren leave the Seahawks when his contract ends, Mora will be there to take his place.
Several weeks ago, the NFL released the opponents for each team next season. We will find out what the order will be sometime in the summer.
Seahawks:
Home Games:
Arizona, San Francisco, St. Louis, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Chicago.
Away Games:
Arizona, San Francisco, St. Louis, Atlanta, Carolina, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia.

KIRKLAND - The Seattle Seahawks have hired Bruce Dehaven as special teams coach, the team announced Monday.
Dehaven joins the Seahawks having coached the same position for the Dallas Cowboys the last four seasons. Overall, Dehaven has 20 years of NFL experience as a special teams coach. From 1987-99 he guided the Buffalo Bills special teams units which participated in four consecutive Super Bowls and won six AFC East titles. From 1987-90, his kickoff coverage unit led the league, and his 1991 punt coverage unit led the NFL in fewest punt return yards allowed with 53, the lowest total since the NFL changed the rules allowing only the ends to release on punt coverage when the ball is snapped.
DeHaven also guided the Bills kickoff coverage unit to a No. 1 NFL ranking four consecutive years (1987-90). He then moved on to the San Francisco 49ers where he coached from 2000-2002.

Seahawks have resigned backup tight end Will Heller, backup fullback Josh Parry and signed Falcon's defensive end Patrick Kerney. They also released defensive end Grant Wistrom. The Seahawks also made Josh Brown their franchise player.
Every day I hope to see that Stevens gets a contract. With the resigning of Heller, Seattle might not be interested in keeping him. If that's the case, i'll have the fury for awhile.
The Seahawks have signed former Jaguars free safety Deon Grant.

Seahawks linebacker Niko Koutouvides signed his restricted free-agent tender offer today, the team announced.
Koutouvides, a fourth-year player drafted in the fourth round by the Seahawks in 2004, has two career starts in 44 regular-season games played. His one-year contract is worth $850,000.
Koutouvides is considered one of the team's core special-teams players and has 40 career special-teams tackles.
Seahawks president Tim Ruskell said today that he expects the rest of the Seahawks' restricted free agents -- wide receiver D.J. Hackett, defensive back Jordan Babineaux and offensive tackle Sean Locklear -- to sign their one-year tenders in the coming days and be back with the team. Today is the NFL deadline for such players to sign offer sheets from other teams, giving the original team a week to match that offer.
Seattle also signed free-agent center Austin King, who spent the past three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons. King has played in 34 games with one start in his career. The 6-foot-3, 288-pound King was drafted in the fourth round by Tampa Bay in 2003.
Also, Ruskell said he expects wide receiver Darrell Jackson to attend the team's mandatory mini-camp the week after next weekend's NFL draft. Jackson has been rumored to be on the trading block.
Hasselbeck ahead of schedule returning from surgery
http://assets.espn.go.com/i/nfl/profiles/players/statsid/s4416.jpg
ESPN:
KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Matt Hasselbeck was back throwing on the field on the first day of Seahawks minicamp, far ahead of schedule in returning from surgery on his non-throwing shoulder. And Bobby Engram has a theory why.
"I know how hard he was out here working out, though he won't tell you that," the veteran receiver said of Hasselbeck, his quarterback since 2001.
"I bet he has the keys to the place, being in and out of it so much rehabbing," he said.
Not quite. Even though Hasselbeck was throwing on the field Friday, less than four months after surgery to repair torn cartilage in his left shoulder, it turns out he has the same keycard for Seahawks headquarters as every other player, coach and team employee.
And throughout the quiet offseason, he's had no more access than the receptionist at the front desk.
"I can't get in past six o'clock at night," Hasselbeck said, laughing as he walked into the team facility following practice. "Actually, I can't even be in here past six o'clock at night."
There's no need for 24-hour access now. The Pro Bowl and Super Bowl quarterback from two seasons ago is most of the way back to being ready for training camp. He spent Friday throwing and participating fully, like each of the other three quarterbacks in Seattle's first minicamp. But when the team got together to run plays against the defense, Hasselbeck yielded to perennial backup Seneca Wallace.
"I'm not really in competitive shape right now," Hasselbeck said, citing a winter and early spring spent "flying around the country seeing doctors. Not much fun."
Noted specialist Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery in Birmingham, Ala., on Jan. 18 after Hasselbeck sought a second opinion when Seahawks doctors advised surgery. The Seahawks originally said Hasselbeck "should be ready for training camp at worst, if not before" July. He first injured the shoulder during a Jan. 4, 2004, playoff loss at Green Bay.
"He is not participating in any of the team things or anything that would test his left shoulder at all -- even handing the ball off," coach Mike Holmgren said. "But he can throw the ball."
In one play Friday, Hasselbeck threw a pass almost onto the sideline boundary well before Deion Branch made his cut on a 10-yard out route. When the former Super Bowl MVP came out of his cut and turned his head, he saw where the ball was going and had to scramble to make a lunging catch, his arms fully extended.
"He was a little rusty today," Holmgren said of his recovering quarterback.

For those of you who read the schedule I put up (which is none of you) you probably noticed Game 5 (I know you didn't) which is against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The game is at 10:00 A.M. Pacific on October 7th. I am sure you all remember (well, maybe a few of you remember) Superbowl XL. Let's go back in time for a second.
2005:
The Seattle Seahawks are celebrating their 30th year in the National Football League, and going to the first Superbowl in the franchise's history. The pacific northwest is going crazy, the Seahawks finally made it. Fans have been waiting 30 years for this day, or younger fans like myself have been waiting their whole lives.
The Seahawks plowed through nearly every opponent they faced that season. They were the #1 scoring offense in the league, led by NFL MVP and Probowl Running back Shaun Alexander and Probowl Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck. The defense was also the #1 run stopping D in the league, led by rookie Probowler Middle Linebacker Lofa Tatupu.
The Seattle Seahawks won 13 games during the regular season, with only three losses. The Seahawks lost the first, fourth and last game of the season. The Jaguars and Redskins defeated the Seahawks fairly, they just played better football. In the last game of the season against the Green Bay Packers, the team was relying on primarily backups to insure that the starters stayed healthy for the playoffs. The Packers won the game regardless, and the game was completely legitimate. These were all away games; The Seahawks were undefeated at home.
In the divisional playoffs, the Redskins came to Qwest Field to play the Seahawks. Shaun Alexander suffered a concussion early that game, and Matt Hasselbeck stepped up and proceeded to destroy the Skins.
Seattle faced the Carolina Panthers in Qwest Field in the NFC Conference Championship Game. The only conference championship that the Seahawks had played in previously was a loss back in 1981. Anyway, the Panthers got their asses kicked to the max, it was one of the most fun I've ever had watching a sporting event.
February 5th, 2005:
Superbowl XL. The Superbowl is pretty much an unofficial holiday in the US. Millions and millions of people were watching as the Seahawks and Steelers took the field. Ford Field in Detroit Michigan was the location of Superbowl XL. The stands were a sea of Steelers yellow and black, as Pittsburgh was going for their 5th Superbowl win in franchise history.
Seattle played a good football game. It couldn't be compared to the dominance they displayed during the regular season against practically every team they played, but the Seahawks did have better numbers than the Steelers.
Except for score.
The officiating crew of Superbowl XL, led by referee Bill Leavy did the worst job in Superbowl History. Seemingly every time Seattle had a decent play, they were called for a ridiculous penalty. Everyone who knows anything about the game of football was outraged at the poor excuse for officiating. Steeler fans however, took a quick break from screwing their family to try and explain that it was a fair game.
The Steelers, playing a shitty football game, had the referees on their side for every single play. With this help, the Steelers were able to "win" Superbowl XL.
I know lifelong football fans that could give a rats ass about the Seattle Seahawks who stopped watching football all together after this game. For the first time in NFL History, a team won the Superbowl because of the officiating crew.
The NFL lost a lot of fans and supporters that day, while Steeler fans (who still claim that it was a fair game) grin with their crooked ass rotten teeth when they remember February 5th of 05, and head back to the trailer park for some sister action.
-----
Now, the Seahawks are heading to Pittsburgh to face the Steelers.
Like in Detroit, the Seahawks will be facing a hostile crowd. Fortunately, every single one of them will be going home, sick with another loss.
Living in Minnesota, this game may not be televised. I will find a location that is showing the game though, and I WILL see it.
This goes beyond football or rivalry, if you care about ME you will also watch this game.

AKA John Elway 2.0? Oh, and you forgot to mention the 2nd shutdown corner to pair up with Champ Bailey, and add in Rod Smith coming back to 100% after hip surgery...I see an AFC team taking home vinces' trophy.
AKA John Elway 2.0?
Hahaha are you serious? I mean really, I don't know if you are joking or not.
Elway was one of the best quarterbacks in history. Cutler is a joke. And not a very funny joke either, one of those bad jokes that you wish you never heard.
Oh, and you forgot to mention the 2nd shutdown corner to pair up with Champ Bailey
Is the second shutdown corner Dre' Bly? The dude isn't a shutdown corner but i'll admit that he gets the job done (even though he is 500 years old).
Champ Bailey is surely the best corner in football right now. I'm not here to bash the Broncos. Except for Jay Cutler, he's pretty much a bitch.
Whenever me and the guys talk about bad football players, Cutler almost always comes into the conversation. Oh, and Jake Delhomme, we give that guy shit like you wouldn't believe.
I'll take my Cutler jokes back if he can throw for more than 3000 yards in 07. I think that's fair.

Okay, I hate to break this to y'all, but Cutler as rookie is in the same area. And as a further nod to Cutler, he hasn't lined up under the guard to tak a snap.
And yes, Bly can be a shutdown corner simply because Champ improves everyones' skill level just by being there.
Prediction: Broncos go 11-5, make the playoffs as a wildcard, and get to the AFC championship game, where they'll play the Colts in what'll be the real Super Bowl, before going to play the NFC's fatted calf of the season.
Prediction: Cutler becomes next Ryan Leaf

Seahawks cut Super Bowl record holder Herndon
ESPN
Five-year veteran cornerback Kelly Herndon, who started all 16 games for the Seattle Seahawks in 2006, was released on Friday afternoon as the team opted to move forward with younger players at the position.
The departure of Herndon, who played the past two seasons in Seattle after spending the first three years of his career with the Denver Broncos, opens a spot for second-year cornerback Kelly Jennings to move into the starting lineup. Jennings was the Seahawks' first-round pick in the 2006 draft.
Herndon, 30, recorded a career-high 67 tackles in 2006, and also had one interception and 15 passes defensed.
The former Toledo standout, who entered the NFL as an undrafted college free agent, has played in 73 games and registered 259 tackles, nine interceptions, 56 passes defensed, one sack, eight forced fumbles and three recoveries. In his two seasons with the Seahawks, he appeared in 28 games and started 22 of them.
Seattle signed Herndon as a restricted free agent in 2005, inking him to a five-year, $15 million offer sheet the Broncos declined to match. There were three seasons remaining on his Seattle contract, at base salaries of $2.5 million (2007), $2.9 million (2008) and $3.1 million (2009).
The Seahawks will realize some salary cap relief with the move, between $1.05-$2.5 million, but the amount has yet to be officially determined.
It is likely that Herndon, who is rehabilitating from a broken ankle he sustained in the 2006 season finale, will draw interest from other teams if he is healthy. The Seahawks had said in recent weeks that Herndon's recovery from the ankle injury was on schedule. There may be teams that view Herndon as a solid nickel cornerback.
Herndon owns the Super Bowl record for the longest return of an interception. In a Super Bowl XL loss to Pittsburgh, he intercepted a Ben Roethlisberger pass and then returned it 76 yards.
In addition to creating an opportunity for Jennings to be elevated to the starter's spot opposite veteran cornerback Marcus Trufant, the release of Herndon likely means that rookie Josh Wilson will have a chance to earn significant playing time in 2007.
Wilson was the team's top pick in this year's draft, a second-round selection from Maryland. Jennings played in all 16 games in 2006, and had 40 tackles, one interception and five passes defensed.
Seattle statistically ranked 16th in the league in defense versus the pass in 2006, but allowed too many big plays. With the departure of Herndon, Trufant will be the lone returning starter in the secondary. The Seahawks earlier in the spring signed safeties Deon Grant and Brian Russell as unrestricted free agents, and both will start.
The Seahawks on Friday also released offensive tackle Steve Morley, a two-year veteran who was signed in January, and who has appeared in seven games.

I don't really like this move, but whatever. He'll be missed.
