Do you believe that Ghosts exist? What about other types of spiritual beings? Do you think that such things exist in this world? I do, and I'm sure that the many accounts across the world have some proof. While not all of these are true, I want to know if you've ever had an experience with a supposed ghost or spirit. And, if they exist, why do you think only some people can see them? I want to know some things that may have happened to you or someone you know. List them in this thread.

My great aunt died when I was 14, and I still saw her afew times after her death, she even sat down to talk with me once. I was so scared and asked her why she was around and she told me that it was cuz' I was wearing her mosaic cross necklace. Everytime I saw her I was always wearing it and when it was off she never came. I just thought that was strange and to post it here. I still have the necklace and see her now and then, but I don't wear it so much anymore because she's starting to annoy me.

Thats kind of strange, but cool too. Well, I beleive to have some sort of ghost/spirit thing wandering around my property. Apparently, her name is Serenity. She walks around and sometimes talks to people. One or two times, I've had people who have come over my house for a sleepover. The next morning they would tell me that my sister or someone was talking to them at night while they were trying to fall asleep. My sister doesn't live at my house anymore, so that is out of the question. Several other people claimed to have seen her walking in the woods. I myself have seen glimpses of her, but have rarely talked to her.

She's a bit odd, but at least she keeps to herself and isn't some sort of poltergeist.

The music hall at my uni has a spirit who was supposedly killed on his way to a recital. Occasionally, he'll bang on the pipes and it'll make a distincly metal sound that can be heard throughout parts of the building. Odd, especially considering that the metal pipes had been replaced with plastic/PVC ones a long times ago. He will also start swinging the chandeliers in the recital hall, ESPECIALLY during songs played in D-minor. Thankfully, all we have to do to get him to stop is to ask him nicely, and after a few minutes, the chandelier will stand still.

I've passed through him once or twice (seriously, why else would there be a pocket of air so cold I get the shivers?), and the worst encounter was when I didn't know him: while washing my hands after peeing, I felt a hand on my shoulder and when I turned around, no one was there. We've gotten to know each other a bit since then.

It's also rumored that the spirit of our music department head honcho still hangs around. We had a window painted in his memory, and even in the middle of the day, I and others feel his presence when we stand in front of it.

I don't know why spirits would stick around, but I can make a conjecture about our head of the music department: he stuck around because he wanted to. He and his wife don't have children, they consider all of their students their children. He was the greatest advocate of music our university had seen, and he was a great person to get along with. So he didn't stick around because he had to, or was in limbo between lives...he wants to stay here and watch over his wife (who is slowly dying of cancer yet refuses to lose her vitality) and everyone who is touched by music.

WOW, if that ain't a eulogy...put some sugar in my gas tank.

It never ocurred with me, but a lot of my family members (usually females) dream with my great grandmother when someone of my family is about to die. Usually the dreams is my great grandmother telling that she have come to take the person that is about to die to the other side. My mom thinks that she is somekind of "soul collector"...

My School campus is haunted to the max, it's an extremely old bunch of buildings in a area that's pretty notorious for being not so great. Aka Ghetto.

So we get all kinds of ghosts, from old allumni to the more recent criminals. Students have had experience with both. From time to time they'll be studying in their dorms and just a dark, overwhelmingly cold presence will fill the room. The ones in the actual school are pretty benign though they just walk around and occasionally mess with supplies. Rarely do they do anything to actual pieces. Though I have heard that some of the ghosts have influenced work through students, to an extent that a girl once had an orgasm while painting but that might just be tripe.

I do some urban and rural exploration from time to time, which is just a fancy way of saying scavenging and dumpster diving. Some of the abandoned buildings have ghosts and "gremlin like spirits". We've squatted in an old farm house and had objects too large for a rat stolen or torn apart from the inside. I also do the hanging out at cemetery thing fun times.

I used to do stuff like that, but spirits get too clingy with me. And so do demons. And I've never met one of either that I could not talk to. Alot of people say I'm psychic. If you want I've got tons of stories and even a few thoerories. Also, it says in the Bible that people will see spirits. Sumoning them is bad, but if they come to you it's okay to talk to them, just don't plot a murder or anything cuz one asked me to kill his wife. Creepy.

Interesting, so you must all believe in them if you've had things happen to you. So, what do you think causes most ghosts or spirits to stay on earth? Maybe an unfinished duty or perhaps vengance? I personally think that the ghosts have an extremely powerful will to live, and it causes them to be "stuck" here. Just my opinon, what's yours?

If a spirit stay for vengeance, I have yet to meet one, especially at uni here. Like Morgy's, my uni is haunted up the arse and the resident spirits who stick around seem to just be here for the fun of it. One dorm ghost is notorious for her pranks, in fact she's so well known that people talk to her as if she's an actual person still there in front of them. My music hall ghost died tragically, but I don't understand why he would want to stick around...and of course I know why Ed still is here. I imagine that when his wofe joins him, they'll make the music hall their permanent home.

Just a thought, but this probably belongs more in Mythology and Metafauna...it really has nothing to do with therianthropy in and of itself. Good thread though.

This is where you all start to think I'm a nutter, but regardless I shall recount some of my more impressive encounters.
Firstly, when I was about 13 or 14, my parents were looking to a new place with some land to graze the horses on. We went to view this place that happened to also have a 16th century barn on it. All was going well until I entered the barn whereupon whatever was in there must have sensed that I'm Sensitive and did the spiritual equivalent of shouting "GET ORF MY LAND!" at me. Which I did... truth be told I ran so fast my parents had trouble catching up.
Another good one was at Canewden in Essex. I encountered the spirits of the many accused-witches that had been executed and buried there. They also were not very pleased to see me and properly attacked me, which wasn't fun and resulted in me being unable to stand up and being carried from the scene by my then girlfriend.
Then there was that time in Rosslyn chapel. The place is absolutely full of tourists now thanks to the Da Vinci Code. I was in the Lady's chapel at one end of the church, and I sensed that the Lady in question is there and not especially happy about all these tourists walking all over her grave - my friend and I now deliberately walk around it out of respect when we're there.
Finally there was the wondrous episode when I got doomed by the Honourable Bede. He actually told me stuff which was not especially pleasant but made me realise some home truths. After that I was left crying in this cathedral looking like a proper religious nutter. After the experience I felt I needed to ground myself in the 21st century, I needed sterile surroundings - so I went to Burgerking which was perfect!

So um... yeah, I believe.

Back on topic. Vengance, pranks, or just for the hell of it, spirits seem to stick around alot more from the older days than modern times. Why do you think this is? I believe that because they usually burned the dead or buried them in mass graves, or what not; they had easier access to this world. Nowadays, we bury people 6 ft under, not to mention beneath a thick block of concrete. So I think it's a little more difficult, but still possible. It's probably the easiest when someone is murdered or dies in a car accident, the spirit has time to escape before being trapped in the coffin. Your opinion??

I believe. My great uncle died in my great grandma's house. Nothing happened before then, but after his coffee cup would show up on the counter, and a tea cup kept up on the shelf would end up upright in the middle of the floor.

I have encountered spirits before, i actually believe to have one in my home with me at the moment. I dont think spirits stick around for vengeance most of the time. I think they're just earthbound and seek out people who can sense them. Some want attention, others are just nasty and want to make your life miserable. But i've never heard of or seen a ghost specifically target one person.

I beleave very much that theses beings are real , mostly every where in most of the world someone somewhere has seen them , and it all can't be made up , and i also agree that one do have to be open to it , so to me it would make sence that there real.

I myself have only had two encounters that I could believe were ghosts. My best friend has had many more though. He AND the rest of his family have come to believe that there are a possible two spirits, a woman and her daughter, I think he said, living in his house. He's told me a million times about one encounter he had, where he woke up in bed one night, thinking that somebody was sitting at the end of his bed. He said he felt the bed sink in the way it would when somebody would sit on it, and he lifted his head, saw nothing, and the sinking bed feeling went away. He said it scared him really bad. Other things he's told me involved things getting moved around in his bedroom, for instance: he had thumbtacs stuck to a small bulletin board on his wall. They were arranged to look like a face, I think he had them stuck through a sticky note or something. Anyway, he looked at them shortly after sticking them through the paper thing, and he said there were a few holes through the paper, but the way the paper kind of pushed outward around the holes, it looked like somebody had stuck the thumbtacs through the paper backwards, and stuck them back in regularly. Not only that, but a few were out of place. I'll have him read this and correct me if I'm wrong; that's just what I remember.

My encounters are pretty simple. A long time ago, when my friend was just finding out about the spirits living in his house, he had me spend the night. We were actually doing a little "ghost hunt" of our own, just looking around the house with candles, calling to whatever spirits were there. We came to the stairs that led to his basement, and something stroked my hair shortly. (At this time period, my hair was very short, so I could tell if something was touching my hair or not.) I wasn't too freaked out myself, but I told my friend and it got him freaking out. That's all that happened to me there. At my own house, however, I can't really remember how long ago, I was in my bedroom playing. Nobody else was in the house; my dad was mowing, my sisters were outside, my mom was working in her garden. I heard a crash, or knocking or something outside my room. (like I said, long ago, I don't remember details.) I thought it came form my parents' room, so I took a peek in there. Then, there was a big crash. Whether I looked in my room again before or after my episode, I don't remember, but when I heard the crash I just went crazy. I ran to the livingroom and jumped on a chair, and stayed there for hours, paralyzed. No joke, I could not move, and I felt horribly nauseous. Eventually, my dad urged me off the chair to play Scrabble with the rest of the family. That was that. I was fine then. What I saw in my room, whenever it was that I looked, was a HUGE pile of toys that I had arranged nicely on a shelf, on the floor and my desk. Something had knocked them all over. My cat wasn't even in the house at the time.

Yeah, that's all I have personally. I believe in ghosts, but I have yet to find out why the spirits of some still wander around on Earth.

i dunno...sometimes i think they can't exist...but my instincts suggest something else....like there are a lot of unexplainable things that just makes me wonder about their existence....but i do belive in souls and "jinns"...and sometimes i think that the "things" that we refer as ghosts are souls or jinns....

I believe in ghosts wholeheartedly. My house has at least one little bugger who likes to mess with me, at the least.

For example:

One day, I was sick and stayed home from school. Now, I usually sleep with this stuffed bear (dubbed "Naruto") who I lay on and have tucked somewhat beneath my chin. I had gotten up to tell grandma to call in, because I was feeling like I wanted to toss my cookies but couldn't, and started looking for Naruto.

The bear had disappeared, so I gave up looking for him after about five minutes. I even shook out my covers and looked beside and under the bed. No Naruto. So, I just flopped onto my stomach, covered up, and went to sleep.

When I woke up, I felt a bit better and opened my eyes. I was laying on my stomach with my head facing north, and the first thing I saw when I woke up was Naruto, tucked beneath my chest with his little bear head under my chin.

Nobody else in the house knew about my sleeping with Naruto, grandma keeps to herself and can't see worth anything (she's in her 90s), and mom was still at work (she leaves at 5am, before I wake up and get's back around 2:30pm). I had known about the ghost, whom I call Chase, for awhile now, and that seemed to be only possible solution.

Like I said, I checked that bed. Naruto wasn't there, and I couldn't find him anywhere near the bed. I don't sleepwalk, and I've interacted with Chase before. Usually, they prank me by changing my alarm or thumping on my bed while I'm going to sleep, but I think they took some pity on me and...acted sweet.

*shrug* That's the story I felt like sharing, and I'm stickin' to it.

Since everyone's being so nice to share their stories and post in this thread, I'll entertain you with one of my personal experiences with another ghost/spirit:

Okay, I've mentioned the ghost Serenity who lives at my house. But I don't usually mention another ghost that inhabits my property. I don't know his name but I see him all the time. I hike alot, and its really conveinent that a state forest is right next to my house. I was out hiking in the woods one day, and I was climbing these glacial boulders really far out. There's this one spot that if you stand on the rock, you can see almost a town away. I was up there and looking down at the ground, and I saw this flash of white. Now this was in the middle of the day, and there was no water around, so I couldn't have seen a reflection from the sun. I shrugged it off at first, and left. But later that day I was up around the same area, except here, I was on the ground, almost in valley. I saw the same white flash. I was kind of scared because I was by myself and far in the woods. But I wanted to investigate. So I walked across the clearing valley thing until I reached the place where I saw the white thing. And when I looked on the ground, there was hoof prints. I ran out of there because I was really freaked out. Then, I was at my horse barn. I walked in ((keep in mind all my horses were outside at the time)) and went into one of my horses stalls. Well something caught my attention, it was hoof marks in the stall door, the door is made of wood and they were actually cut into the wood. Then I was really really freaked out, so I went to the hay loft and was staring out a window completely opposite of the horse corrall and saw a white horses running down the path, and on it was a guy. I couldn't really tell what he looked like, but he was wearing black. And he looked at me as he passed, I got this really cold feeling and I couldn't move. Then when I blinked he was gone.

Its really weird, and I've seen him more since then, but that was the first time. I've always wondered why he's stuck around, but I think its sweet that he and his horse stayed together in the "afterlife". I wonder if maybe they were killed in a battle, because I can see this really big hole in his chest. Creepy, especially when I'm alone and in the dark. *shivers*

i used to believe in ghosts but im not so sure anymore. ive recently became very religuos and the bible says that ghosts dont exist, but its hard not to believe in ghosts. my friend says that (the ones that are real) are just demons but im still not so sure. personally,(on an unrelated matter) there are alot of holes in the bible and its hard to believe something when you can blow more holes in it than a deer during hunting season.

I've had many ghosly encounters. I used to live in southern pennsylvania and every house i lived in was haunted. I also went to gettysburg a lot and saw many ghosts while there. Some of my ghost encounters include, seeing a pile of dead bodies in what we called the pig sty on the bottom floor of my barn, a little girl ghost who stayed with us for many years, chasing feet at devils den, and seeing my four times great grandfather Standing Eagle the last war chief of the Cherokees. I personally look for ghost and have a high ESP so I tend to stir up the ghostly activity.

Sounds like you've got some work to do when it comes to your faith. Don't believe in something because it's mainstream. Believe in it because it makes you happy.

My old house is freakin creepy I just moved out maybe a month or two ago it's one of those old victorian types of houses you find out in the country painted all white, I'd be on the computer upstairs, and I'll hear doors, and bootsteps downstairs, I'll go down to check what's going on, then I hear the same thing going on upstairs, It's like a playing a game of tag or something the more I go after the noises, the more moises it makes. But once I give up it gets all quiet. But the thing is the last time I tried to ignore it the power went out for no reason. It's the reason we moved out in the first place, we're still out in the country, not fond of all the noise you get in town.

it does make me happy its just that when i look at all the scriptuers and look at the real world its hard to know what to believe, but this is off topic. like i said im not sure if ghosts exist or not but, to me, all the evidence points to yes.

My friend's house is the same way, Except he lives inside Town with about 5,000 other people. So it's weird when he looses power, the circut breaker doesn't work when you try to reset it, and his house is the only one on the block without power...

Another thing is, when you are in his backyard at night, and you look up at the sky, even on a clear night when the moon is full and centered in the sky, it is pitch black and dead silent...

I believe all things are possible, I believe in the supernatural but as far as experiences, I have had my share but I am not convinced it was because of something supernatural more of a trick of the mind. Does that makes sense? I believe it is possible but I have yet to experience it for myself or experienced something that convinced it is supernatural and only that and not me being too tired or looking for something that isn't there.
