Because the grinders need love too.
Let's start off with the reasons to love hockey. First off, you have to have some skill. Ice skating isn't easy. Anyone who's tried it can tell you. It rewards skill, patience, and above all, some serious physical fortitude. It's the Beautiful Game, the Sweet Science, and there are few things more uplifting then to see a group of guys gathered around a 50-pound silver chalice that'll have their names inscribed on it forever. Tradition is something that brings every sport a little something.
Now one of the big things recently is Karlis Skrastins' Ironman streak. He's a defenseman who hasn't missed a game since the year 2000. 488 games. Straight. The man is unreal.
2 weeks from now, the trade deadline for the season hits, and some names are being floated around. Peter Forsberg is one of the big ones, since he'll be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. The Flyers are looking for a prospect and at least a second-round draft pick for their captain. One thing that makes this interesting is that Foppa has a no-trade clause in his contract, which he'd have to waive.
Plusses: When he's healthy, he is bar-none one of the best in the game. Sweden put out a commemorative postage stamp with his picture on it after their Olympic win in 1994.
Minuses: He's brittle.
It being about 1:30 in the morning, that's about it for todays' hockey newsishness.

Sorry man. The Wings get fat on their divisional games, and then they fall flat come playoff time. Could be worse though - my boys (Avalanche forever!) are actually...like, they might miss the playoffs for the first time since they were Quebec.
I vote we fire Bettman out of a goddamn cannon.

#1: 6-1. Hang your head, young man. ;) We still have cookies.
#2: Damn. Trade rumors all over hell. Bert, Forsberg, Sundin, Rolo, Martin Biron, and the freaking list goes on. Wake me up on the 28th and tell me if any heavy moves were made.

Damn. All you Wings freaks keep saying that. Wail and moan about 'em, but then when you give them a better option (Still lotsa room on the Avs BandWagon, fyi) they just don't wanna. I see a first-round exit.

Win lose or draw the wings are the best hands down

Best at choking, I'll agree to that. ;)
Meanwhile, back on topic, the canadiens may be up shit creek. Alexander Kovalev is out for 3 weeks, and goalie Cristobal Huet's status is uncertain.

Playing St Louis, Chicago, and Columbus 8 times each? That's 40 points right there. My grandmas' beer league team could rack up a better record then the Avs if they played in that skirt-filled division. ;)

I dont think so the wings have how many cups Eight to the aves how many? 2 ha beatter team indeed

two cups for a team that's less then 12 years old isn't too bad.
8 cups for an original 6 team? That's...shameful.

P.S. I never insulted the Avs I simply just stated that the wings were beater

Saying the Wings are better ~is~ an insult. ;)
Now, for the teams that have more cup wins then Detroit.
Montreal Canadiens (24 - anecdote; having won so many cups over such a short period of time, one year the mayor of Montreal simply put out a press release as follows - "The Stanley Cup victory parade will be held along the usual route.")
Toronto Maple Leafs (13)
And for the ones close to the Wings - Boston Bruins and the Edmonton Oilers (5 each) New Yor Rangers and NY Islanders with 4 each.
You're welcome.

No worries. :p Meanwhile, a metric fuckton of trades, since the deadline was today.
Biggest ones: Red Wings get Bertuzzi (hereafter referred to as "That fucking thug"), Panthers get Shawn Matthias and possible draft picks. Draft picks depend on the fucking thug re-signing with Detroit after the season (TFT is an unrestricted free agent in July).
Pittsburgh gets Georges Laraque (hereafter known as "Sids' Bodyguard"), and in return Phoenix receives a forward and a 3-rd round draft pick in this summers' draft.
Ryan Smyth dealt to the Islanders, in return the Oilers received 2 prospects and the Islanders' first round pick.
For the avalanche, (Oh hush, you knew it was coming) 2 deals on deadline day. Scott Parker comes back from the Sharks in exchange for a 6th round pick, and Brad May's been dealt to Anaheim for goalie Michael Wall.
Analysis of this jazz to follow.

Biggest ones: Red Wings get Bertuzzi (hereafter referred to as "That fucking thug"), Panthers get Shawn Matthias and possible draft picks. Draft picks depend on the fucking thug re-signing with Detroit after the season (TFT is an unrestricted free agent in July).Matthias hasn't played an NHL game yet, so Florida's playing for the future at this point. TFT is a hell of a power forward when he's not being a juvenile delinquent, which gives the Wings someone to park in front of the net.
Pittsburgh gets Georges Laraque (hereafter known as "Sids' Bodyguard"), and in return Phoenix receives a forward and a 3-rd round draft pick in this summers' draft.Woe unto the next person who tees off on Sid the Kid. Laraque, as an enforcer from Ye Olde Schoole, is going to be a huge deterrent simply because he ~can~ check someone into the 6th row and serves 2 minute minors as a part of his regular shift.
Ryan Smyth dealt to the Islanders, in return the Oilers received 2 prospects and the Islanders' first round pick. The Oilers couldn't make a deal with Smyth, so they decided to trade him before potentially losing him to free agency. Good move on their part. The Islanders get Ryan Smyth out of the deal.
These are both minor deals in the overall scheme of things. Definitely far below the norm for the Avalanche; their new GM doesn't seem to have that same flair for the dramatic. Reading the tea leaves on this one, the Avs pretty much just hung their coach out to dry. He's gotta make the playoffs with what he's got, and I'm not sure he'll do it. Parker's a solid D-man from what I recall. Also in this trade is a point-blank message to Jose Theodore: Earn your money. His stats are not those of a 6-million dollar goalie, especially in the salary cap era. If he doesn't get it together next season, he's going to have to find a new team.
