Has anyone here heard of the "Benandanti" or read the book "Night Battles: Witchcraft and Agrarian Cults in the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries" by Carlo Ginzburg?
It describes a religious sect in the middle ages that fought evil in their dreams (astral projections actually) in the form of wolves. Very interesting read, the wolf fighters were called "benandanti" which means "those who do good as they travel." Records still exist of interrogations by the Inquisition of a man that told of these "wolf fighters."
