View Full Version : Magical Titles

This is something that needs to be addressed, I think. Nomenclature for proper titles of magic users and occultists is thrown around like crap in the zoo's monkey cages.

The terms "warlock" and "witch" are often most contested. "Warlock" is shunned by modern covens because they see it as evil or signifying oathbreakers.

But is it that "Warlock" is seen as evil simply because Christians saw warlocks as evil? Is the term then going to bear a negative connotation simply because people who weren't magic users gave it that?

Witch, curiously, has negative connotations too. Not only Christian ones, but in many languages the equivalent of "Witch" is akin to poisoner or manipulator.

Yet both simply seem to mean magic user these days.

Similarly, terms like "wizard" and "sorcerer" are thrown around as if they have superiority, experience, etc to the Witch or Warlock. When in reality, they're just terms that grew up seperately.

These titles all come to mean "magic user" one way or another and don't really imply anything different except etymological sources.
