I have always been intrigued by Jack the ripper, and recently I have embarked on doing a paper about him for school. This is some information about him that I have found (not including books) If theres anything you can add it would be deeply appreciated. Also heres some info for those of you who are a little wet behind the ears and have never heard of him.
Jack the Ripper! Few names in history are as instantly recognizable. Fewer still evoke such vivid images: noisome courts and alleys, hansom cabs and gaslights, swirling fog, prostitutes decked out in the tawdriest of finery, the shrill cry of newsboys - and silent, cruel death personified in the cape-shrouded figure of a faceless prowler of the night, armed with a long knife and carrying a black Gladstone bag.

I believe that Jack the Ripper was none of the suspected men, but a man who has never and will never be indentified.

I don't think it was really proven that Jack the Ripper was a doctor.
Grant that the internet is and has been a way of spreading information, it is also known for having been one of the easiest ways to spread lies.
Careful with what you get from the net. :p

There really are no 'facts' when it comes to Jack the Ripper thats what makes the appeal, the unknown. Never believe anything until you research it to be true yourself :)

x;232440']i have been told that Jack the Ripper was a Doctor but i wasn't sure on what to believe.
The theory behind him being a doctor developed because he removed the organs of his victims in a way conclusive to how a medical professional (doctor) did. But then again since his identity was never revealed, all theories of who the man/women was is just that, theories.

I'm always here to help :) I am infatuated with Jack the Ripper so I have done extensive research. My favorite book about Jack the Ripper is by Patricia Cornwell titled "Portrait of a killer" a must read for Jack the Ripper fans it covers everything!

I saw a film on channel 4 not so long ago, called 'From Hell' or something, and starring Johnny Depp...it suggested that Jack the ripper was a doctor connected with the freemasons who killed the prostitutes because they knew about a secret marriage between a member of the royal family and another prostitute - and that royal someone then contracted cyphalus (sp?) and it had to be covered up...its was an interesting film

The movie 'From hell' was Hollywood's way of making a profit off the legendary killer. The story line is another 'theory' behind who the real Jack the Ripper is and is actually based on a collation of books about Jack the Ripper but again has no merit since everything we have heard/known is circumstantial being how Jack was never identified.
