View Full Version : Affects of the moon

I have personally experienced enhanced senses, Faster reflexes, more strength, and a very deep change into a more philosophical mindset with my goals clearer and even more wanted.
The moon has been worshiped and understood to be magical. It and wolves are held in extremely high regard by many shamanistic religions of old. Even in mythology Elune is the spirit of the moon.
Any way what effect does the moon have on you and what do you think of it?
Also this is the closest thread to what i could think of
so if this doesn't belong here please inform me.

The lunar cycle seems to have an effect on my mindset and moods. I get easily aggravated when the moon is almost full. When it is full, I'm in a more focused and calm state of mind, and I'll remain that way for a few days after it's full, until it's back to a half moon. I guess I can say I'm...normal then? I never know what normal is for me. My moods confuse me  I've been this way for at least a few years now.

The full moon affects me... sort of. I didn't notice it until last year... but I seem to have a different personality of sorts when a full moon is out.
And I seem to have better luck under a full moon... which is probably a coincidence, or a result of seeing everything in a better light (... not literally speaking). But seriously... everything goes the right way when there's a full moon. Not before it, though. Which is odd.

The full moon has a few effects on me. For one I better rested in the morning, mainly because I am able to walk at night during the full moon time period. Otherwise I just feel better in general more at peace with everything and better dreams.
The effects of the moon are not just mental effects either the shifting of the moon effects gravity and tidal patterns, that’s got to have some sort of effect on the mind.

Sad to say, any "enchancments" you receive from the moon are purely psychological. But yes, the moon may have an affect on people, however, in most places, it appears to only arouse violence, as could be seen on that one show on the history channel

If you think of it that way everything is psycoligical(sorry bout spelling). Reality is only what your mind tells you it is.
I prefer to forget that though and enjoy unless needed.

the external forces from the real universe is doing something physical that is causing something psychological in you which intern causes you to do something physical inside the real universe

Have you considered that these all are just side effects of being more relaxed? The moon is a very relaxing image after all.

I only seem to be affected by a new moon. It seems to make me a little more restless at night. Personally the whole moon thing always bothered me a little though. You can see the moon all hours of the day, and it's only visible because it reflects the sun's light. I never understood why in most mythology and the like people are only affected at night time by the moon. I think that's why the new moon affects me... it's a loss of extra light.

I’ve always loved the moon. I think it's incredible how people all over the world since the first man have looked at and admired/hates/feared/loved/whatever the same one object as I see and love on a daily/nightly/whatever basis. It’s even more incredible how so many old moon legends about crops and season show that the ancient people knew by intuition and observation what science is proving today. The moon has an incredible capacity for capturing the imagination and giving a great feel of mysticism. The moons effects on man may be mostly just psychological, but they still have huge impact on our actions and abilities.

I feel more energized and as best I can express for summarized feelings primal during full moons. I also at times am starved feeling, quicker to temper, more impulsive, moody, restless etc. Why a full moon would make me hungry I've no idea, but I don't bother to evaluate it, it just is. I've always been drawn to full moons like a moth to a flame. I think they are beautiful and like how they light up the night with that special glow that only moonlight can provide that I've experienced. They for my fancy seem to exude a magical essence. My favorite full moon is the harvest moon as it is the largest generally and most yellowish in hue. There's that saying I do not fear the night because I have loved the stars to fondly. Take that and replace it with a full moon and that's my thought.

Generally, I am more calm around the full moon. I get irritated or annoyed quite easily, I have little tolerance for things that usually wouldn't bother me. I feel more awake during the full moon, both day and night. I tend to pace a lot around full moon too. I notice that I'm more creative too, more inquisitive and somewhat impulsive.

Avoid exposure to viewing or being under the moon directly. Try not to pay attention to when full moons are scheduled to occur.
Focus on some self control technique that works for you during that time since you know your self control over your emotions tends to slip up then. It could be any technique, write out what you are feeling, or excercise etc.

Maybe also when you ignore the moon you realize that it's kinda n00bish to act like you have special enhancements during this time, or just get aggressive because of it. Maybe you're looking for a reason to sound impressive, but if so, try to be more subtle about it.

It is fact that the moon has an effect on people and if I wanted to sound impressive i would say stuff like the fact I can make a few simple sentences in about 3 languages and have make shields out of crap laying around or that I am working on 2 languages that have been put on hold also i know how to make plate shoulder armor although haven't actually made it yet and also can make chianmail have theorized about 12-17 different super armor desighns and have theorys about energy shielding and can fly take off and land even though im not old enough to drive.
Seriously please don't call me a liar and I am not a braggart and in short the purpose of this entire rant was to prove the point that I am not just trying to be impressive if I wanted i would talk about it more openly also the moon spirit Elune as the name is derived from a greek goddes (or at least the name is close)

I'm not calling anyone specifically a liar. Most of you are lying. However, Krallis' statement is one of the ones that makes sense, giving that he might be sensitive to very subtle changes in gravity. Despite the fact that the moon's distance from Earth has very little to do with the fact that it is full or not.

I don't think there is any Greek goddess with a name close to Elune. The Greek goddess of the moon is called Artemis. However, Elune does sound similar to the french phrase for 'moon', which is 'la lune'. Perhaps that was what you were referring to?

Greek is nowhere near Latin, which is where the word "lune" sounds like it came from.
Roman is Diana...
*looks it up*
Elune is from World Of Warcraft, a completely fictional game. Elune does not have anything to do with real life gods or goddesses of ancient lore. The name, as Layira suggested, probably comes from a Latin based language, such as French. (I believe that Spanish, the word for moon is "la luna")

I haven't really noticed any effects the moon might have on me, except, perhaps, that I feel great sorrow when I look at it. I think this has to do more with my nature and personal emotions than anything external or magical, but still, it is something.

For the love of... Did you even look at my link? Here let me point out the important sentence for you.
Ivan Kelly, James Rotton and Roger Culver (1996) examined over 100 studies on lunar effects and concluded that the studies have failed to show a reliable and significant correlation (i.e., one not likely due to chance) between the full moon, or any other phase of the moon.

I feel excited and get strange urges. I do most of my best drawings then and even though my bedroom is in the basement I have a perfect veiw of the moon. When it's a half moon (both waxing and waning) I seem to slope in every catagory. The new moon has a strangly different effect on me but kind of the same.

Don't get me wrong, trasherCub you may be right, and you may not be! I read a few stuff about moon efects, and the fact is that during full moon ppl tend tog et more agitated...most part of passional crimes happen in full moon, most suicides,etc...maybe that big silver/yelow bright circle as an efect on us,or maybe we just get to see something like that and thos action seem more ''romantic'' under the full moon.
Blame the literature and the movies!
ThrasherCub

More agitated and passionate in that psycho-killer way I can understand - the moon has a gravitational pull and could be having an affect on the delicate balance of chemicals in our brains which regulate our behavioral patterns.
But I doubt it severely changes the metabolism of selected individuals, as would be required for Shala-Woofie's claim to be physically caused by the moon.
Your claim, while still somewhat likely to be related to the placebo effect, is reasonable, believable, and something you and I share in common.

I Agree interly with that TrasherCub,the moon may flip out our chemical compostion the same way it does to the tides, but i don't think i would make you get extra fur, extra sharp fangs and claws,a make you get a flufy tail...that just doesn't fits...

This is not a fact. Wikipedia seems to have taken their Effects of the Moon section of their Full Moon article out for whatever reason, so I did a quick google search and found a National Geographic article that says pretty much the same thing.

This is not a fact.
Just because it's not a commonly accepted or proven notion doesn't mean it's not right. Besides, while the rest of us might use the moon as an excuse to be crazed asses, I doubt those in insane asylums who "happen" to be more rowdy on the full moon are plotting this.
The majority is BS, but not all. It's another case of losers, idiots, and attention-seekers muddying up the waters.

Of course it doesn't mean that there is absouletly no way in hell there is any corelation between the full moon and behavior. But it's still not a fact. Facts are proven, this is not (at least there is no significant evidence pointing towards the full moon effecting our behavior). This is just a theory.
However unless a solid study comes forward that says the full moon does indeed influence our moods, I'm going to continue to say it's all in your heads.

I personally have a lot more energy during the waxing moon and the subsequent full-moon... physical and magickal.
The waxing moon also calms me in some odd fashion... but not the kind of calm that you experience when you're relaxing with a cup of tea, a good book, or some kind of drug. For me, it's an icy calm. My thoughts stop spinning around in the maelstrom they're usually in, and I'm able to just "be" wherever I am. When I go running under a full moon, it's damn tough to not start full-on panting while I'm running.
Subconscious animism, maybe?
In any case, I just perform better under the waxing moon cycle. :)

as far as I know I am only affected by the full moon becus I havent realey looked at the moon other then when its full so I would not know if the other phases efect me or not.
but when its a full moon i tend to get all exited and go out side and play my 78 records and watch the reflection of the moon on the spining record.
i seem to have some what of hightend senses and I feel that i hav faster reflexes. (dont know havent tried to do any thing yet) it also makes me happy and I feel eassy. those are the things that Ive notesd so far.

effects, none in particular. but on that note I must say it IS very cool to look at, in fact i have found nothing better than relaxing on a fall night underneath a crystal clear sky, staring at the moon and the stars. it almost feel like if you stare long enough you get lost in them. Now I dont know about anyone else but THAT is what relaxes me during this time. Nothing chemically strange just peaceful.

I'd just like to address someone's previous statement that the name "Elune" had no connotations to Greek/Roman mythology and was probably from a French/Spanish word "la lune". While this is correct, the word "lune" in French and "luna" in Spanish originate from the Latin word "luna" (which I'm sure you already know) but Luna was also a Roman goddess (the Greek counterpart was known as Selene). Though Artemis was connected to the moon, mainly she was known as the virginal goddess of the hunt.
Also I believe that if you can find a correlation between violent crimes and the full moon, it's probably because you can see so much better on full moon nights. This may be why some people feel energized as well. It's still light out so your body says it's not time to go to sleep (which in turn burns more calories so some get hungry, and you really do need to sleep so some get cranky). I know that when it's a full moon out I'm more energized and that's always what I attributed it to. Just my two cents.
