I was wondering how many people do actually wear any of those, and of what kind. If you going to answer it, please explaing what your talisman means.

I wear a dragon amulet:

"In medieval symbolism, dragons were often symbolic of apostasy and treachery, but also of anger and envy, and eventually symbolized great calamity. Several heads were symbolic of decadence and oppression, and also of heresy. They also served as symbols for independence, leadership and strength. Many dragons also represent wisdom; slaying a dragon not only gave access to its treasure hoard, but meant the hero had bested the most cunning of all creatures. In some cultures, especially Chinese, or around the Himalayas, dragons are considered to represent good luck and fortune."

But I intend to wear a Anchor amulet instead...

(I put this topic in Myth cause I don't see where else it fits)

I wear a silver Unicursal Hexagram, a protective talisman created by a magician. I also wear a profile image of Ur Heru (Horus), for I am both a child and a warrior of His aeon.

Hmmm I'm not sure if this counts, but I wear a coyote claw. Kind of like this (http://www.tumbleweedtwoste p.com/33657-pe.jpg) only with a bead instead of the silver/feathers/stones. I got it at a pow-wow maybe 4 years ago. Coyote is a totem of mine, so it does hold significance to me. I'm not so sure it would count as an amulet or talisman though.
I also have a medicine bag that I don't wear often anymore. I have a wide variety of small stones to put inside of it. Unfortunately I got a pen mark on it somehow and no matter what I do it won't come off. I even got saddle cleaner and the thing won't lift.

:) Coyote is practically my father. I have a little Coyote talisman as well, though I don't wear him much. It's a pewter coyote, grinning like an ass, and it has a red gem for an eye.

I should take a picture of all my stuff.

Unfortunately I got a pen mark on it somehow and no matter what I do it won't come off. I even got saddle cleaner and the thing won't lift.
If it's only pen it's probably not very deep. If you're careful you might be able to scrape it off bit by bit with an X-acto knife. It'd probably be quite time consuming (depending on the size of the mark and how good you are at this kind of thing), but you might find it to be worthwhile.

Well, depending on my state, I'll wear either my moonstone necklace set in silver, or my silver wolf pendant, and I used to wear a victorian vine inspired pentagram.

Wolf is my totem...I usually wear it for strength, especially through hard times, or protection, wisdom, knowledge, intuition, family..it just embodies who I am. I used to wear it everyday for years until the chord broke.

Moonstone...intuitio n, spirituality...usual ly wear it for luck in new endeavors, or when I'm feeling romantic, or when I feel like I need a stone to help suck up some excess energy or lend a little power and focus...so I guess in that fashion I may also use it for protection.

The pentagram is a reminder and personal display of faith, nature...earth..air. ..fire...water...spi rit, magic, wholeness, mystery, learning, power and protection.

Always in silver. I never feel quite right wearing gold. Sometimes it causes a skin allergy.

Of course...I've also just noticed they are all moon related as well. Heh.

The necklace I wear most often is a little pewter dragon on a black cord. He's coiled around a colorless marble so that his head overlaps his tail in a perfect circle. I always saw that as a reference to immortality, or at least the cyclical nature of things. Protection too, since he keeps the marble safe. I used to think it was an egg when I was little.

Looks a little like this guy:

Yeah me too. Besides, I think silver things are prettier than golden things. I use a silver earring in my left ear. I tried to use a golden one, but I didn't like it.

Most of the time I wear a large pewter crucifix with a dragon wrapped around it, and it has a red gem in the middle.

I don't really have one necklace, pendant, or talisman. I have 13. Most are wolves and dragons, with one silver crucifix. I wear three particular ones all the time though. Two wolves and a dragon. You could probably hear me coming down the street with all teh bling.

I wear a Sigil of Baphomet I bought a year ago. For those who don't know (silly you) the Sigil of Baphomet is the main symbol of the Church of Satan (though it predates the Church). Pentagram (commonly referred to as an "inverted" pentagram, though if you want to be technical, my way is probably the right way up), Hebrew letters spelling Leviathan (that good ole Hebraic evolution of the late, great Tiamat; the Prototypical Serpent), Goat's Head (scapegoat, Amon, Azazel, Goat of Mendes, Pan).

I eventually hope to acquire what has been called the LaVey Pentagram, SIG Pentagram, or Bolt Pentagram. Basically, its your common pentagram (again, point down) with a Lightning Bolt striking through it (symbolizing Victory after the whole SIG Rune, also symbolizing Power). I've always found it a very striking symbol.

And of course, I'm designing my own symbol. But THAT, I will not speak of as far as details are concerned (I'll just leave this attention whorey little hint).

I can't even wear silver. I tarnish it black in like a day. Same with copper, or any cheap watches.
So most of my bling is either pewter, gold ,or stainless steel in the case of my earrings.

I find jewelry to be an irritation to wear and normally don't wear any, though have taken a liking to a pair of surgical steel body peircing style earrings that I keep in (they're a bitch to take on and off). They remind me of they type of earrings someone adventureous might wear, like a pirate, or metal head etc. so I wear them to express my own desire for adventure, and appreciation of adventurers. Not exactly a talisman, but as close as I have to one.
Sometimes I also wear an Alchemy Gothic brand "Hour of the Wolf" werewolf/pentagram pendent expressing my intimate interest in werewolfry etc.

Both are the "correct" way up. They simple have different uses.

Concerning the meaning of the pentagram, here's a good website that has some info if anyone's interested in taking a look. :D

About the thread; I usually wear this necklace with a moon charm. There is a real photo of the moon (the phase on my birthday, which is a full moon ;) ) encased in glass and on a backround of black onyx. Other times I wear a bear claw because bears are closely connected to nature. When I want to be more in tune with nature, I often put it on to help with that. I also have a bunch more as well; dragons, wolves, and even a falcon.

I'm designing my symbol too! Actually, that's why I started wondering how many people did wear a symbol as a mean of getting good luck...
I don't know what it will be exactly, but I want to be something related to the sea and nautical stuff (as I said before, I wanted to wear a anchor)...

I wear a mithril necklace with a vile of Witch-fart attached to it. It protects me from children, angsty teenagers seeking for a way to rebel, middle aged hippies and, oh say, pretty much every group that believes in all the magic, Majikx, Majack, Jamajik and Jamanji you can shake a broomstick at.

But please, don't for a minute think that I don't believe in any of this crap. I'm quite fond of the old 'I got your nose' trick’. I even still get a thrill when I watch these paranormal investigators who can contact the dead on national television just when the cameras are rolling.

It's just I don't think the snot of a bat or the shape of a dragon shlong in real shiney metal is going to protect you from anything like a spirit or a car crash or least of all some jackass from Britain who spouts his mouth off at people over the internet for actually believing in something. It just looks good, and some of it even fails to do that.
But don’t let what I say affect ya, it's just who I am.

As a side note: The only person I have seen who seems to even know what they are talking about is ThrasherCub. She has shown on several occasions she knows her goat headed deities from her Lucifer’s so Go Her! If you wannabes out there wanna learn something listen to her or perhaps request some information.

When I want to piss off my bible thumping nut (no offense) sister I wear a pentagram or my silver wolfs head pendant that has a dead lamb in the wolfs mouth :) but usually I just wear my two gold chains, one has a cross on it and one my Italian flag, silver and me don't get along too well so I don't wear it too often :)

Right you are. I don't believe on this stuff also (I started the topic on MYTH, not religion), I just think it's a good way to garnish yourself... And altough useless, I like to know the meaning of symbols. So please, don't start making assumptions about everyone. It's not everyone here that is a kewl tr00 magikckck... Some are just curious...

I don't believe in it for a second. I got the pendant when I was little as a birthday gift from my grandma. The whole meaning behind it was just something I came to from various sources. I think the world dragon thing was norse? It was nice to be able to say something about what you're wearing.

Though I gotta say, mithril and witch's fart. That's bloody wicked.

Allow me to correct myself. The way that seems to be used originally (at least in the West).

I wear a Celtic symbol. I feel very connected to everything around me when I wear my necklace, Ask Layria Aura I It is always with me, back to what I was saying, Everything in my life is Celtic. My farm name ( Celtic Hill Farm)

Everything in my life is Celtic.

Somehow I've come to doubt that.

They both have traditional Magickal uses and attributions. They're more or less the same age.

I wear a silver cross my grandparents gave me from time to time. Especially when I feel depressed. I know it is your typical hum-drum sign of the crucifixion of Jesus and we all know that story, however it is significant to me. Before when my grandparents where alive, if I felt really down about something, I would call them up or drive up to their home and have coffee, tastycakes and talks. However they are gone now, and I can't afford the gas to drive up to their graves all the time. So putting that cross on me makes me feel a bit safer, more secure. I don't think for a second that this little piece of metal is going to save me from a car wreck, or that it will magically divert sickness away from me. But it still makes me feel better.

ThrasherCub

That's more important, don't you think? You WILL get sick, and some day, you WILL die.

Trinkets and talismans to try and hold those back are pointless. Why not have something that makes the here and now more pleasant?

Props for that level of understanding.

Yep, like I said it's only a piece of metal. However the symbolism is important, that cross to me symbolizes the love I feel from God and the love I knew and still love from my grandparents. That brings me comfort and that in itself is significant enough.

Props for that level of understanding.

Thank you very much cupcake. :D

A "talisman" I always carry with me everywhere is a huge permanent marker I got several months ago at a giant protest. An anonymous punk girl entrusted it to me. After my arrest and release, it has become the only physical object I have left of the events, which were quite world-shattering - haha, my life was a little bit reordered, necessarily.

Anyway: I keep it with me, and I tend to think, that although it's just a huge Sharpie, it has a lot of personally symbolic meeting imbued in it, and I actually do feel naked without it in my pocket.

Well, not quite naked. I like having it, though.
