a crock pot. preferably one that comes with a little recipe book to get you started but if not, hey, just google "crock pot recipes" and watch the file links line up.
my dad (rest in peace) received a crock pot after he started his little café.
it became his favourite piece of cookware. mine too, after i started college. one of the first things i went out and bought was a crock pot to call my own. i have never regretted that move and never looked back.
at one time i had three or four crock pots, including a hard-to-find REMOVABLE POT version for serving at the dinner table.
the crock pot, a.k.a. the "slow cooker", is the most MARVELOUS aid to the clumsy cook you could imagine. it is "the bachelor's best friend" because, trust me, it is damn near idiot-proof. i mean, you really, really, REALLY have to work at it to bugger up a crock pot recipe. but sometimes even the mistakes taste just wonderful.
for college and university students on the go, and very little time to spend in the kitchen prepping a meal in between classes, it is a godsend. just chop up, brown up, mix up your ingredients, plop them all in the crock pot, cover, set the dial (or whatever) on "low" and head to class. dinner is ready and waiting for you to serve when you drag your weary ass home.
