I have been asked this so many times, I want to see how others respond. This question kinda addresses quite a bit, but most of it I feel will fall to the spiritual level. For those who didn't know, I am an Atheist in essence. I believe in no higher power, but rather that this Universe is run on certain unbreakable laws. While entirely bendable, breaking these laws is impossible.

Now for the question... What is the reason you live?

I live to better myself, and even others around me. I believe that men such as George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Even men such as Hitler, are all effectively immortal. We learn of their accomplishments and failures in school, thus, over time, allowing us to better ourselves by ceasing to make such mistakes again.

I live not to please a higher power, nor to plesae those around me. I live simply to live. I will make choices, learn from them, and contine moving. I want to thinnk ther is something after death, but I can wait until I die to find out. What will be, is what will be, nothing can change that. If there is nothing after death, than we cannot give ourselves something after death, so why bother worrying about it. If there is an afterlife, then it is good enough to wait for. I will not waste my time wondering about the next journey.

Don't athiests hate all types and forms of religion?
Anywho, I, personally think I am on this earth to serve my God by worshiping him (I'm a christian). Not only that, but I also think I'm on this earth to help people in whatever way I can. I also live life to enjoy myself.
And I'm not sure whether this has been asked before on this board, as I seldom visit this section.

No, Atheists simply do not believe in a higher power. I fully respect anone who does, as I too used to believe in God.

At 13 years old, my best friend commited suicide. Since then, I've lost all faith. I don't blame god, yet I simply can't believe in one either.

So you lost faith as an emotional reaction?

I live because being alive is the best condition I can think of. Rationally, I imagine being dead would feel like how I felt before I was born....imagine that for a minute. What do you remember? Nothing? I thought so. See why I'd rather live?

The world is full of wonders. Sights to see, music to hear, books to read, things to eat. Its so fleeting, so accidental, and so terribly beautiful. If I could live forever, I would and I'd never EVER be too bored or too sad to take a moment and be grateful to be alive.

I don't think so.. I just kinda... realized that there wasn't anyone "looking down" on us. It's our choices and what we do with life. I neve complain about my life, because if m past had been an different then I wouldn't be who I am today.

I live life because of love. Simple as that. Even as simple a love as one for our planet. I love the world's beauty, and the beautiful things that live within it. Imperfection is the definition of beauty. And also, for one beauty in particular...

I lost faith after loosing someone awhile ago too :( it's hard to think of someone loving you with their all and then taken away something that means so much to you, but in the end, I realized everything happens for a reason, but I don't fault you for staying away :)

Maybe thats why I have trouble relating to atheists. I never had faith to lose.

I think you mean you never lost faith, you go through something traumatic enough believe me it ain't hard

I think OP was going for something a wink more spiritual.

Since you live due to not being dead yet, why haven't you killed yourself in order to get it over with? Sounds mean, but phrasing it this way might inch you closer to the kind of answer Lucim was looking for.

What is the reason you live?To emote, to opiniate, to learn, to experience...

Basically, my reason to live is to live.

No...I mean that I never had faith in God to lose. It just wasn't there. Life's realities were always too urgent to think and hope and pray for Big Juju to come down and make everything all better.

I of course made disastrous attempts because I thought I had to have faith in SOMETHING. But never did.

Dark Wolf, I think thats the best reason to live.

Exactly how I see it. I live to help people. When someone comes to me with a problem, I don't care what's happening with me, I do my best to help them. Before I get people saying how I can't help others without helping myself, I do take care of myself, I simply put others first. The way I see it, I live how I want to be remembered.

I live because I want to know the truth in everything. I live to learn, and I also live to spread what I have learned. In learning, you can find all the answers.

What I was meaning is that I don't really have a reason, but I'm not willing to stop living either.

You're sixteen, so personally I do not think you have to worry about having a driving force for living. Just knowing you want to keep going is good enough.

I live for the irresolute urgency of life itself. Our span is fleeting and there is too much to experience before my candle is snuffed. I don't want to waste a day.

I live because someone gave birth to me. I suppose I could kill myself but I'm too lazy and someone has to feed the critters.
