I'm not sure if I should laugh or cry at this news story. I first heard it last night on a web-broadcast I regularly listen to and did a more in depth look at it today.

The gist of the story is, this student took a consecrated communion cracker (a Eucharist) with him out of mass rather than eating it. Now the student is facing death threats from around the world, which is not an exaggeration. The student, Webster Cook, said he only wanted to show the Eucharist to a friend who had questions concerning Catholicism. The Catholic League - which is an organization to prevent oppression of Catholics - president Bill Donohue said: "For a student to disrupt Mass by taking the Body of Christ hostage – regardless of the alleged nature of his grievance – is beyond hate speech. That is why the UCF administration needs to act swiftly and decisively in seeing that justice is done. All options should be on the table, including expulsion."
PZ Myers, a professor at the University of Minnesota, wrote a blog about the event and has also come under fire from the Catholic League.

I'm at a loss for speech on this story. As Myers said, its a frackin' cracker! Its not the literal body of Christ, and no harm came to the supposedly 'hostaged' cracker. It was even returned in a nice zip-lock bag. Although if anyone has any spare communion crackers please go and send them Myers, I want to see Donohue's reaction to that. :p
