BATSQUATCH

Purportedly living in the shadows of Washington's colossal Mt. Saint Helens, are a species of purple-skinned, nocturnal primates, which allegedly have pterodactyl-like wings, blood-red eyes, and a head which is said to resemble that of a simian synthesized with large bat. Hence its name... Batsquatch.

Although this animal has never been directly linked with its terrestrial cousin the SASQUATCH, the more terrifying aspects of this animal's ape-like visage have lead some investigators to conclude that the creature may in fact be yet another split in the evolutionary tract from which both humans, gorillas and all HAIRY-HOMINIDS evolved.

Other researchers have contended that these animals may not be flying primates at all, but a large (and heretofore unknown) species of North American fruit bat. That having been said, Batsquatch has been known to display a decidedly carnivorous disposition, and numerous chickens, goats, hogs and cows in the region have turned up missing, although there has been no direct evidence linking the creature to this phenomenon.

In 1994, Washington mountaineer Butch Whittaker, while preparing for a climb, spotted the creature during a rare midday flight and managed to snap several photos of the beast before it disappeared. These photos have been the center of debate and have even been represented as outright hoaxes. Nevertheless fortean investigators remained intrigued by the possibility of North America supporting its own population of large, WINGED MONKEYS.

That's all I could find, I highly doubt this creature. It's supposed to be like a purple pterodactyl.

UFO-Aktuellt issue 4/2002

Pages 19-21: Hybrids Now and Then. Richard Svensson presents another interesting article about fortean phenomena. This time he describes several encounters with hybrid monsters; creatures that seem to have been put together by many different species. Some examples are angels and mermaids, but other, more "exotic", are Pegasus and the "Batsquatch" (the winged version of the more well known Sasquatch). As with other fortean phenomena, encounters with strange and sometimes quite horrible creatures have been recorded throughout history, but the closer you get to modern times the fewer the sightings get. Either the monstrous creatures of earth have succumbed to modern-day civilization, or the monsters have actually never been more than myths and legends. Whatever the case may be, Svensson’s article is interesting and enjoyable as always, and of course accompanied by tremendous drawings from his own pen.

Whats with the ice sculptures? Somone must have had a lot of time on their hands as well as a love for Batsquatches. Never heard of them myself.
It sounds like somones tied some sheets to their arms in an attempt at individual human flight.

I'm open minded and all, believing in vampires, weres, heck, Resident Evil coulda happened. But BATSQUATCH?!? Unless {Gho5tbat} did genetic experiments on herself, it's unlikely.

Some additional information on a were-bat like creature.

The Ropen, (meaning Demon Flyer), is known on the small island of Rambunzo which is situated off the east coast of Papua New Guinea in the Bismarck Archipelago. They are described as possessing a wingspan of around 3-4 feet, a long beak filled with sharp teeth, and a long tail ending in a diamond-shaped flange. They are known and feared by the natives of of PNG and the Solomon Islands. They hide/sleep in caves dotting Rambunzo, and are attracted to decaying human flesh and other strong smells.

They have been known to attack funeral gatherings (including one occassion when western missionaries were present), and have been observed by missionaries on nocturnal fishing trips along the coastline. The Ropen has also attacks native fishing vessels by snatching fish from the nets as the catch is being hauled in.

The Duah (meaning, demon flyer), lives on the PNG mainland and is described as a giant flying creature with a winspand of up to 20 feet. In 1995, the residents of Gumalong village watched as a Duah flew from nearby Mount Bel, down over the jungle valley, and directly over the village as it headed out to sea. The Duah bears more than a passing resemblance to the giant Pteranodon, and exhibits a bioluminescent glow around its underparts.

The Orang-Bati (meaning, men with wings) is known and greatly feared by the Moluccan tribespeople who live on the island of Ceram, Indonesia. The creature is described as being essentially humanoid in appearance, around 4-5 feet in height, and possesses enormous leathery wings like a bat. As with the Ropen & Duah, the Orang Bati hides in the caves around Mount Kairatu during the daytime, emerging after sundown to take to the air.

The creature has been known to abduct infants and adolescents - something which my informant, missionary. Tyson Hughes - was inclined to look upon as a fable. Later, however, the local Moluccan pastor and the members of his church all attested to the truth of these reports and even provided their own eye-witness accounts.

I would like to state, being a Washingtonian that I have never seen the likes of a Batsquatch in the wilds of Washington. Though, upon further reflection I may have dated one. Hmmmm....
