View Full Version : Santa Freakin' Hats!

I've frequent a good 20 forums and sites daily, and EVERY one of them has at least 5 members that put those fucking red hats on their avatars. People, please, STOP THE MADNESS! put your avatars back to their normal, respectable forms. No one cares about Christmas and the Fat-Elf-Terrorist they call 'Santa'. Be reasonible people, you're messing with your avatars, what did they do to you?

I swear to fucking guano, I saw a Tyler Durden avatar with Santa hat on. I saw a ophra with hat on, I saw a MegaMan with Hat, Hiehachi with Hat, and a Stalin with hat. It isn't right folks! Stop the madness!

I'm not one for christmas. So I don't have hats or anything. We have a fake christmas tree, some snowy displays, and lights. That's as far as we (my family) go. I'm anti-religious a little, I respect what others believe but don't you dare try to "convert" me or anything.. and christmas - where the word means "celebration of christ" - is a religious event. I only like the dinner, we have a lot of good food and the family is together putting their hatred aside for that meal.

Besides my christmas usually ends in tears, so another reason to dislike it.

DarkWolf

I don't see Santa as a religious part of Xmas.
The first and real Santa Claus (english way of spelling Sante Klaas which is dutch for Saint Nicholas). He lived in the 4th century and was a bishop. At christmas time he took pity for the poorer people who could not enjoy christmas, and he decided to help. Not wanting the public attention and demands for favours, he did so secretly. Wearing a red cloak he would ride a horse into the towns and surrounding villages and use wire to lower small packs of money or food down chimneys. He did this every christmas and people had reported seeing a man in red on rooftops. He continued this for many years. One day he was discovered. After he died later, people continued his traditions by dressing as a bishop in red and giving presents to others. He was titled Patron Saint of Children.

Of course that was a long time ago and like all stories, it eventually became something more fantastical.. normally snow accompanies christmas and North Pole had lots of snow but nobody had actually discovered it yet, merely believed there was a north pole by scientists. So, his home became north pole. But it is cold there so the bishop's costume became fluffy and thick. Jolly fat men seemed more of a plausible story than an aging thin bishop.. so he was made fat and "ho ho ho" so show him being jolly. So, Sante Klaas the bishop became, for the children, Santa Claus the jolly magical fat man from the North Pole.

So yes even Santa was part of the religion, he was firstly a bishop.

Your lucky. At christmas my dad gets drunk and usually ends up shouting and raving and calling everyone whores or cunts. Three christmasses ago he ended up snogging another woman and turned violent against me, my brother and my mother.

How's that for fond christmas memories?

Then I pity you.

I mean I love my dad: when he's sober. He can be the best dad you could ever ask for. He works hard, teaches good morals, practices what he preaches. The only time he's a bastard is when he's drunk (and the wuss needs only take five pints to get him drunk: whereas I, a person not used to drinking much, can take 10 pints and not feel anything  ). I hate him drunk, but love him sober. Family... can't live with them, can't live without them.

I read this post and laughed hysterically. I decided I HAD to have a santa hat for my avatar. So, I looked everywhere I could think to look on the site and didn't find a santa hat.
(This may be because I am horribly computer illiterate, but hey, I get along all right.)
Anyway, after my santa hat search proved futile, I turned to the one computer program I could trust: Paint.
And so, through the help of Paint and the memory storage on my wizbang computer gadgety thingy of the 21st century, I too was able to give my a avatar a santa hat. So there! :D

Was the joke that bad? I guess it works better if you've read Pratchett.
In one of his books, a long-dead mage who wrote about almost everything evil and put it down into one book is called Achmed the Mad. A footnote says that he preferred to be called Achmed the I-Just-Get-These-Headaches. He also wrote a book on humurous cat stories, which might explain why he went on to describe all forms of evil.

Anyway, it's from how you occasionally mention that you get really bad migraines. It just fit.

To all of you talking about crazy parents... you can add me to the list of "why wasn't I born into a happy family" I only know my mom and she's an ex-alcoholic turned 2 beer queer. She hates me when I'm drunk, and thrives off my pain. It's 3 days to Christmas and we have no tree. I can't get one, because I have mono- Too strenuous activity and I can rupture my spleen. She doesn't get me anything. Not that presents matter.

I'de prefer a welcoming house to live in. So to hell with Santa and Christmas. I say bah hum bug.
