The gluttony one isn't much: Rats, toads and snakes, are not only edible but in some countries they are considered delicacies.

I don't get why the animal for Sloth is a Goat: why isn't the animal the actual sloth?

People confuse me, for a person to live without some level of these emotions (the sins) you would not be human: and without lust, there would be no life. Is God to say that he doesn't want the human race to go on living, or is he to force us into sin and expect us to be the ones to say sorry? Hypocrite.

Anyway, the ability to feel pain of those tortures is a physical thing: the soul is not physical and thusly is unable to feel physical pain. Those punishments were made up because sin was an idea of control. People abhorred the idea of those things being done to them, and thusly the religions say "don't do this, or you this happen to you for eternity" etc. It's about control, or a hypocritical God. Either way religion sucks ass.

I must wonder, how much of the shit the church says to do or dont do is actually things that Christ said to do (or not to do), and how much of it is shit that the church made up in order to gain power and\or money?

DarkWolf is right: Organised religion sucks ass. :banghead:

I must say I agree. Its supposed to be organized, yet most religion doesnt make any sense. Must I say anymore?

DarkWolf, sometimes a cigar is only a cigar, but in this case, it is something else. Religion exists as a series of similes for people too unintelligent to understand it. Would people two thousand years ago understand the sight of a city; would people a day ago understand the basics that would be involved in anything so metaphysical?
Each exists as warnings and precautions, even a cure, for overuse, not punishment.

Envy is said, by those much more creative than I, as a burning need. The mind needs to be cooled.
Gluttony, the <sarcasm>soul</sarcasm> needs to be fufilled, to understand what could come from such mongering.
Pride, the brain must be shown its weaknesses.

Well according to the Bible, the only ritual you have to do is take communion. Catholics added on a heap of shit about confession and stuff. This sparked the Protestant Reformation. Just an example of how much has been added on to Christianity.

All religions seemed to have their little divisions. But Christianity seems to rank as the highest in divisions. Islam has the Shiite/Sufi thing. Sunni too if you want to count it. Buddhists have Mahayana/Zen and something else. But I'm a bit off topic here. My point anyway, is that divisions seem to result in misconceptions of what the people who came up with the religion originally said.

To commit these sins is to be human. If you're punished for being human, then everybody is going to Hell. They won't let me in hell. Too afraid I'll take over. Who's with me? We'll start a revolt and then conquer Earth. Only one problem:

I don't believe in Hell.

Fun to think about though.

Take over hell? Been there, done that. Even got the free T-shirt. But, hell, bieng hell, it was incinerated.

All that shit tacked on to organised religion is why I don't call myself religious.

Spiritual seems safer then religious. Still though, the best way to keep the masses peaceful is with religion. Look how violent past religions have kept them. That could be turned around.

Or make them much worse. As long as religions differ, there will be hate and strife because of it. Peace is an unattainable ideal when it comes to religion.
