A recent conversation I had explains what i think the meaning of life is. What do you think?
wahteverkitty: im pondering the meaning of life
adamwolf5: ohh?
wahteverkitty: yah
wahteverkitty: ive decided that life revolves around the paranormal
adamwolf5: ohhh cool
wahteverkitty: all cultures have some kind of paranormal thing since the beginning, and most of them match since well before these cultures intermingled
wahteverkitty: which proves the existance of things we dont understand
wahteverkitty: whats more is all people go searching out these things, either through the internet, through reading, writing art, music
wahteverkitty: they dont know it but subconsciously theyre looking for something they dont know about
wahteverkitty: and it seems that animals and plants can sense and/or see these things, which means all life revolves around the unknown
wahteverkitty: what do u think?
adamwolf5: not sure, its an interesting idea certainly dont know if I like it or not

The meaning of life is that there is none. We live, just to live. There is no point, or anything we are meant to acheive or find. The meaning of life is actually just to live out your life.

 ummm wtf? there is no point in life. we live to die and what we do in between is of no consequence so nothing matters ever really. life is pointless yet we all strive to keep it. it makes no sense :(

Actually, you're quite wrong, and that statement was pretty elementary in my opinion.
I believe our souls have been around since the begining of time, and of course, created by the Creator.(Can be whichever you believe in)
We live for a purpose. As humans, we're designed to make mistakes, be depressed, spread the joy of fucking chips and dip ( ) and all that jolly stuff.
The meaning of life to me is unknown, but there's a reason I'm here, there's a reason you're here, and why the human race even is here.
To say that there is no meaning in life is immature and false.

I'm not sure that the meaning of life has anything to do with the paranormal, but there are somethings in life that don't fit into our (modern?) perception of existence. However if one removes the consept of 'creator' then one can see that the entire concept of existence could theoretically be described as a phenominon- then maybe in that respect you are right- the meaning of life is down to the paranormal. Since the vast majority can't percieve existence that wasn't created by some greater intelligence so thus the paranormal is generally refered to in the prefered title of 'god' or 'creator', and anything that is strange in our otherwise balanced notion of what is 'normal' is generally refered to as an act of god, or wiped under the carpet as though it never happened.
Personally I don't think we are all that important. We (in my opinion) are just a small part of something bigger, like bacterium on a large pebble that was dropped into a dark merky lake not more than 3 seconds ago- our time definitive is shorter and thus it seems like our pebble (or earth) has been around a few million years+. We are nothing more than a few nano-seconds old.

Keep this theory of yours in mind and go read some H.P. Lovecraft. It'll put a new persective on it and perhaps give you some nightmares. ;)
@MexicanJewLizard- Only an idiot believes in a loving god. But hey you can have an opinion and so can P[s]ycho.

Indeed. Perhaps it's worth quoting the Mad Arab Abdul Alhazred from his Necronomicon:
"Nor is it to be thought that man is either the oldest or the last of earth’s masters, or that the common bulk of life and substances walks alone. The Old Ones were, the Old Ones are, and the Old Ones shall be. Not in the spaces we know, but between them, They walk serene and primal, undimensioned and to us unseen. Yog-Sothoth knows the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the key and guardian of the gate. Past, present, future, all are one in Yog-Sothoth. He knows where the Old Ones broke through of old, and where They shall break through again. He knows where They have trod earth’s fields, and where They still tread them, and why no one can behold Them as They tread. By Their smell can men somtimes know them near, but of Their semblance can no man know, saving only in the features of those They have begotten on mankind; and of those are there many sorts, differing in likeness from man’s truest eidolon to that shape without sight or substance which is Them. They walk unseen and foul in lonely places where the Words have been spoken and the Rites howled through at their Seasons. The wind gibbers with Their voices, and the earth mutters with Their consciousness. They bend the forest and crush the city, yet may not forest or city behold the hand that smites. Kadath in the cold waste hath known Them, and what man knows Kadath? The ice desert of the South and the sunken isles of Ocean hold stones where Their seal is engraven, but who hath seen the deep frozen city or the sealed tower long garlanded with seaweed and barnacles? Great Cthulhu is Their cousin, yet can he spy Them only dimly. Iä! Shub-Niggurath! As a foulness shall ye know Them. Their hand is at your throats, yet ye see Them not; and Their habitation is even one with your guarded threshold. Yog-Sothoth is the key to the gate, whereby the spheres meet. Man rules now where They ruled once; They shall soon rule where man rules now. After summer is winter, and after winter summer. They wait patient and potent, for here shall They reign again."
(ArcaneWolf will recognize this, I'm sure. ;) )

:) Nice to see someone else on this board with an interest in this sort of thing (Cthulhu Mythos).
by the way, whats with the whole Talamasca thing? I'm familiar with the term from reading Anne Rice, but are you serious or is that page just for fun (I honestly can't tell since you don't have much on it yet, but a link to this site)?

Gotta know your Lovecraft. ;^) As for the Talamasca link in my profile, that site's a work in progress. I'm hoping to make it into an online occult library (not some goofy Anne Rice fansite). In fact, when I've gotten the chance to do more work on the site, I'll probably be asking people here for contributions. :D

I would say the meaning of life is the meaning that we choose for ourselves, our goals. My 2 goals in life are these: Becoming a lycanthrope, a werewolf. Get rid of my virginity ;)

I'm guessing you have an equal chance of accomplishing either of those.

Meaning of life? I'm going to say... what is the meaning of anything else that happens on this planet? What is the meaning of rain? What is the meaning of rocks? What is the meaning of day and night? It seems that things just happen around here. It's a product of probability. With a given probability and near infinite time, almost anything is bound to happen. At this time, air, environment, trees, and life have happened. They will certainly come to an end, as there are very few phenomena in the universe (if any) that last indefinitely. And if there is time again, and the probability of circumstance, they may happen again. Things happen because they can.
To that effect, what is the meaning of life for each and every one of us? Well... I believe that as human creatures, we have a few things left to us from our biological heritage. Cheif among them are the goals to stay alive as long as possible, and to reproduce at least once during that time. Psychology and biology may have also put some goals in you that you don't have any choice about... I can't tell you what they are, so you're going to have to figure it out for yourself. Aside from that... we're all here, so we might as well make the most of it. My goals include making artwork, telling stories, and reproducing at least once, because I am the last of my bloodline and it would be a shame if we died out. Life is what you make of it. As long as you're still alive, you're not doing too bad.
That, and Cthulhu is the man.

I want to know the meaning of life so that I can purposely avoid it.
a good theory that i have come across is that we give our own meaning to life through stories, thunder for example is something to do with the elements, the story given is that a god (lets say Thor) creates the thunder, or wind, created by moving atoms, a story for that is that it is the breath of the gods, nearly everything we come across involves a story, we make up stories for our selves as we go along. when i saw this theory it made sense to me, i like the idea, and to some extent i believe it.
now i know this is not how it was set in print but that is the general gist, i found this theory in Science of the Discworld II by jack cohen, terry pratchett and ian stewart where they describe us not as homo sapiens, but as pan narran, the story telling ape.
anywhos, that was my 2 pence worth if it even made sense to you all
