Throughout my life there's been a number of events which I thought I'd never live to see either because I thought we'd all be killed before it happened or because I simply thought such a thing would never come to pass. This included things such as the demolition of the Berlin Wall, end of the Cold War, the splitting of the USSR.
One thing I never thought would happen was that we'd sort things out with Libya.
In 1984 I remember the stories on TV of how a female Police officer, WPC Yvonne Fletcher, had been murdered by gunmen from the Libyan embassy in London. I was a little young to appreciate the implications of what had happened, but I knew it wasn't good.
In 1988 I, along with many in Britain and indeed the world over, watched the unfolding scenes of the terrorist attack that had caused a plane to crash on the Scottish town of Lockerbie. 270 people lost their lives that day. After many years, Libya accepted responsibility.
I never thought I'd see the day that a British Prime Minister shook hands with Col. Gaddafi. Yet here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/3566545.stm) it is. Today is one of those days that should be momentous, yet for some reason I can't help but be troubled by what I'm seeing.
So what's other people think of this?
