Ive always heard Puerto Rico didnt want to become a part of the United States, which is why its not. It would be nice to have another state though....

Normally I'd oppose that sentiment. But hey, any excuse to burn down the white house again.

Well, from what I've read here:

http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/rq.html

I guess Puerto Rico would come in handy. ^_^

Well, it certainly would be nice to have another state to add to our union instead of a commonwealth as Puerto Rico is now. As for benefits, well, there is tourism to consider. With the right promoting by buisnesses and such, it could possibly turn out to be another Hawaii (an exotic spot that people love to visit :)). As for resorces, I don't know enough about the country to comment on that. Though last time I checked weren't there three political movements in the country? One for the country to stay a commonwealth (basically a territory of the U.S. which has almost all the benefits a state enjoys, even having a state representative but he/she can't vote in Congress), to become a state of the United States of America (doing this would mean that the residents of Puerto Rico would have to pay U.S. taxes which they don't really have to do at the moment) and lastly those that want Puerto Rico to become independant of it's own country (this movement is third because becoming your own country, while having it's benefits as well, also brings a lot of problems to the table like making your own currency etc.).

Either way, I think a vote was done on weither Puerto Rico should become a state of the U.S. and it was voted to keep it a commonwealth. That was in the late ninties I think.

Anyways, if you guys want to become a state, well, there are somethings to consider like having to pay federal taxes, etc, like the rest of us do and your representative will have a voice in congress. But if you guys want to join up, then I say go for it! :D

We'd love to have you!

Later,

Lance Walker
