For those of you who don't have a spellchecker on your computers may I recommend a site that will do it for you. There is nothing worse that having to read a story, poem, or other literary type work that has such horrific spelling that your brain spasms.
SPELL CHECK (http://www.spellcheck.net/)
I am making it a rule that atrocious spelling will get your post deleted. I don't mind a few typos, but this:
just stumboled apponsomething, so i will rambul and not make sence at times, so deal with it!! p.s. i can't spell ether so leave me alone a bout it k?Is going overboard. Dyslexics can spell better than this. Being the son of two dyslexics, growing up with a dyslexic friend and talking to specialists in dyslexic groups as well as reading up on the subject I can tell you that using dyslexia as an excuse for bad spelling is lying.
There are no excuses. Whine your reasons all you want - we don't care. The only reason for it is laziness. There are spell-checking facilities on-line and many computers have them installed. Microsoft Word also has this feature as do many word processors. So there really is no excuse.
If your spelling is deemed horrid and requires deciphering - it will be deleted without warning. Do not whine to the mods about it either.
If you persistently fail to make use of the facilities available online and in word processors, and will not preview your post to ensure average or better spelling then you will be up for review to determine whether you are banned or not. The way we see it: if you cannot use a little effort to reach average or better spelling: you obviously have no respect for the site and its audience.
This rule is being employed throughout the site: if you disagree with the rule then you can leave at anytime, because the site staff are unanimous in this decision.
Thank you.

Very good...
I for one, am very pleased that such actions are going into affect. I was getting pretty tired of trying to read posts that seemed to be in another language. I can somewhat understand hard to spell words, but simple everyday English words...that is just down right lazy.
Does this also mean you mods are going to crack down on those who use symbols or numbers to replace larger words?
If you need any help hunting these people down, you can always MODify me! :D
Again thanks!!

Does this also mean you mods are going to crack down on those who use symbols or numbers to replace larger words?Good point. The answer is yes. Using "gr8t", "u" and "r" et cetera are considered equal to the abhorrent misspellings, thus they will be treated the same.

HUZZAH! Can the odd-balls who like to make up words, such as myself, still do so? Hiftapibble?

As long as the overall post can be understood easily, it should be fine. Write a majority of the post in made-up words then that becomes a problem.

Hehehe! Nah, we would love perfect posts but no, we don't expect it. The mods and many members are just tired of seeing "psts lik th1s an peple sayn tey r tr00 w3r3s!!11!!1".

I have grown concerned about how it is felt necessary to add some form of "disclaimer" to their posts stating that they're expressing opinions and don't mean to offend anyone, etc. It makes me sad because such a disclaimer should be unnecessary. I will post here what I have said in a thread recently:
This is a forum for philosophy which is essentially a way to increase knowledge and/or understanding through discussion. It is a forum to talk about all aspects of general life or the significance of personal experience. This may involve facts, theories and of course: opinions. Philosophy is not about accuracy so most conversations may be nothing but opinion or theories which may have some basis in facts. It should be automatically understood that posts are primarily opinion and not intended to "flame" or disrespect the opinions or capabilities of any other person. But it should also be understood that this is about deep conversation and if you are sensitive about a subject that any negative opinions on that subject make you angry and want to throws insults etc; then this is not the forum for you. Any opinion that is posted with maturity, whether positive or negative, is valid even if you dislike what is said. This is, of course, no excuse to post harshly or in an immature manner. Such posts will be deleted without question.
This forum promotes opiniated and mature discussion. Anything to the contrary will be subject to immediate removal. So if a post is left up deliberately it is because it was evaluated and deemed valid and relevant so it is not something to get angry or disrespectful about. The main point behind a mature discussion is that you are able to realise some opinions may be negative (in disagreement) and should treat those opinions as you would any positive (in agreement) ones.
