View Full Version : What's your Favorite SNL Sketch?
I've always liked the land shark...Chevy Chase is some kind of badass.
That, and Weekend Update's good (I like the Jimmy Fallon/Tina Fey version best of them all)
What do you think?

My favorite SNL actor is Will Ferral. My favorite sketch are the ones with "Marty and Bobbie Mohan", where Will Ferral plays the keyboard and Ana Gasteryer sings. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
My other favorite show on comedy central is RENO 911.
Clearly I'm crazed.

Will Ferral is a genius. Simple as that.
When he did that sketch with "Bill Gates" and Tom Broka (Ferral was the Uni-Bomber lol)
"In closing, do you have anything to say to Mr. Gates, Mr. Lusinky?"-Broka
"No, but I'd like to send him something... if you catch my drift...ha...HAHA!.. ..HA!"-Ferral
No fans of Craven Moorehead?
Reno 911 is GREAT- The Daily Show is still up there with the best.

One of my fave sketches is King Tut performed by Steve Martin. Kind goes back further but still just as funny. I love any of the older ones with the "older" cast like Martin Short, Chris Farley, Steve Martin, Chevy Chase and Phil Hartman. Classics.

You of all people Ang, should've mentioned Second City!! The place where MOST SNL luminaries got their start. Their alumni reads like a Who's-Who list of comedy:
Joan Rivers (1961)
Melissa "Sally" Hart (1963)
Fred Willard (1965)
Peter Boyle (1967)
Harold Ramis (1969)
John Belushi (1971)
John Candy (1973)
Bill Murray (1973)
Dan Aykroyd (1974)
Eugene Levy (1974)
Gilda Radner (1974)
Shelley Long (1976)
Jim Belushi (1978)
Dan Castellaneta (1986)
Mike Myers (1988)
Chris Farley (1989)
Tim Meadows (1989)
Steve Carell (1991)
Amy Sedaris (1992)
and the list goes on and on...

What's an alum list got to do with favorite skits? Admittedly though, Second City is one of the best places around for improv. In fact, five bucks gets you in the door every Saturday at midnight for a show. They really are phenomenally creative people, and wonderful performers. I've never seen people have so much fun with their jobs. (That is NOT jealousy... Honest...) Anyway, noice list. Puts things in perspective.

Nothing, it's just that most people make out that SNL is the end-all-be-all of comedy folks, but the fact of the matter is most get their start here. Hell they used to broadcast SCTV when I was a kid, with the like of Murray and Candy, and that stuff was brilliant. Just an eye-opener for the kids of today who think Mike Myers and Will Farrel are gods.

Good gawd...those guys pale in comparison to the folks on the original cast, even Garrett Morris. Weekend Update's always been my favorite (I'll never forget Chevy Chase trying to deliver the news while repeatedly attempting to get rid of a booger on his finger), but there are a ton of other great ones, like the Samurai Deli, in which John Belushi actually (though accidentally, of course) slices Buck Henry in the head with his sword. The stuff they did in the first three years -- Land Shark, Little Chocolate Donuts, the Bees, the Wolverine Sketch (the very first thing they did on the show when it premiered), Bag of Glass, the Czech Brothers, etc., etc. -- beats almost everything they've done since. That said, though, there were some other gems that spring to mind, like Synchronized Swimming (Martin Short: "I have to wear water wings. I'm not a very strong swimmer."). That's also one of my favorites. Unfortunately, it seems the writers they've had over the last few years, like that accursed Colin Quinn (KILL! KILL DIE! DIE!), seem to have confused humor with crass jokes and shock value.

By the way, the list of SCTV alums left out one of the best: Martin Short.

I'd have to say my favorite has always been the Motivational Speaker with Chris Farley. Expecially when my ex performs it in drama class. Funny as hell.

oooh, tough question, they're all good, but anything with Mr. Peepers (anyone see the one where The Rock played Poppa Peepers? :D ) and the Celebrity Jeopardy (colors that end in "urple") skits are the best.
