Just the word 'Philosophy,' gets my mind racing, because I have so many view on the meaning of life, stuff like that. I even think, perhaps, that I have an unnatrual thirst for other people's views on the subject, so you will probably get fed up of me soon enough...

Firstly, Humans, though selfish, stupid, blind and, on the whole, mundane as we are, are the point of the universe. I do find it depressing to say this, considering that we have fucked up the world so much, but that's what I believe. I also think that as time goes on, we become more blinded to the damage we are doing, and so our magical eye is clouded, which is why many people today do not believe in magic, and they have to have a scientific explanation for everything, while it seems to me that life was so much more bareable when this was not so. The egyptions, for example, must have had phenominal intelligence and power to do the things they did with the pyramids, thing we would struggle with today, even with our machinery.

If we were to just realise that magic is not as impossible as it seems, perhaps we will make the world a better place.

While the pyramids, and indeed the other great works of engineering that the Egyptians created, do indeed show that they had great skill and power, do not overlook that thing which would have actually played a far greater part - motivation.
The Egyptians, as well as a number of other cultures around the globe, not only worked out how to create these great structures will little or no technology, but something caused them to want to create them as well.

On the contrary, magic is not the great band-aid which will fix all the worlds ills. Like any resource it would work best for those that know how to use it most efficiently.
Unless of course some wicked powerful "make the world better now" spell was cast :D

Also ever think that the reason why magic is dying out (in popular belief) is because magic was our logical explanation before science and now that we have science we have an even more logical explanation making previous ones redundant?

I don´t think magic is impossible.
I think the definition of magic is the real problem.
what do you see as magic dryade?
Wizard´s fire would be pretty hard to conjur up, but isn´t life
itself magical?
furthermore I think your vision of mankind is a bit dark.
sure enough some of us are working on destroying the world as
we know it, but how many are fighting to save it?
Hate and fighting fortunately are not the only features mankind
owns.
Love, comforting others and building beautiful things are such important abilities we all have in common.
