How do you know what kind of were you are?

I love the cold so I guess that I am a tundra wolf but I laugh like a jackal so am I also a jackal.

What is your opinion?

As though wolves living on the tundra were the only creatures in the cold. And as though only a jackal would laugh like a jackal.

Seriously, bro', think about what you're saying.

Mine is intuitive. I am what I am.

I never said that Tundra Wolves were the only wolves in the arctic I was just saying that I feel like a tundra Wolf and they happen to like the cold ok and I laugh like a Jackal and so I feel like I may be a jackal in some way. Can't you people not be negative for once? I was just aksing a question and I wanted some advice on why you guys think and feel you are those certain animals ok.

I think what CT means is that she believes to be this way, and wants a reassurance that she should be believin what she feels, and wether or not she should seek something more. She's also asking to hear how you knew what you were, as to compare to herself of how it's suppose to be, even though it's a bit different for everyone. I knew who/what I was through meditation, after searching some of my history. It was like a calling, and somehow you just kinda know these things.

Everybody makes mistakes sometimes. Even I make mistakes. I know that I'm not perfect, and I don't think anyone in this world wide world is. What's important to know is that even if you do make mistakes, there are people that care about you. Making mistakes is just part of growing up.

I think you're trying to justify your wereside by matching all your actions to an animal and this is wrong.

Take into account that you are human. You were born into a human body and, thusly, you're going to have human actions. This is one of my pet peeves: therianthropes making too many comparisons.

"I snort like a horse, therefore I am. However, I also bark like a dog when I laugh, therefore I am. Hey, did you know I also yowl like a cat when I get into fights? Therefore, I am. Guess what! I love water, therefore I am a whale too!"

By this logic, everyone is a therianthrope. Similes can be used in just about every human action and/or interest. For example:

"I snort like wind running through a clicking lawn ornament, therefore I am. However, I also sound like a coughing wrestler when I laugh, therefore I am. Hey, did you know I also wail like a banshee when I get into fights? Therefore, I am. Guess what! I love water, therefore I am a sailboat too!"

Do you see what I'm getting at here? Actions and/or interests are certainly a part of therianthropy, but they're only a small percentage. Actually, they're more like results of therianthropy.

A few basic guidelines that I have, over the years (ugh . . . sounding like an old fart in my young age), found helpful:

Determining one's therianthropy takes soul searching. Sit down with yourself and ponder over it until your brain is ready to explode. Meditate. Take a walk outside and think about your surroundings.

Always second guess yourself; don't ever take anything on a whim. There are so many individuals out there who say, "Hey, I like cats, therefore I am" and they leave it at that. While this may be a reason, it's more of a starting point in determining what and who you are. Don't base everything of yourself on one flimsy interest or habit.

Realize that, in some cases, you may be wrong. I know someone who thought she was a wolf for many, many years and then only recently realized she was an orca--two animals with very similar habits and personalities. Something may click, but there may be something out there that clicks even better. If this is the case, you're no more and no less of a therianthrope: it's human to make mistakes.

This isn't to say that you're not a therianthrope or even an arctic wolf therianthrope or a jackal because only you can determine that, but please don't come on here using, "Oh, I do such-and-such like this-and-this, I AM THIS-AND-THIS!!!" as your main argument.

There's another one out there that gives you a test and leads you to a conclusion, and you decide how well that fits you, but I can't seem to locate the URL. I didn't use it to determine what I was, but it confirmed what I had thought for years. If anyone else knows it, feel free to post it.

I laugh like a hyena sometimes, but that doesn't mean I am one, or might be one. I can immitate cat sounds and used to sleep curled up like one when i was younger, but that doesn't mean I might be one. The cat thing is because I was raised around cats all my life, they kinda rubbed off on me. But it's not who I am or what my "inner animal" is. Because feline is not what I feel when I look within. It's just not there in my mind, or heart or soul for that matter. I'm just not connected.

To the whole "I laugh like" thing..
Yall don't be rude.. the Tundra Wolf/ Jackal
obviously feels an animal side but just dozn't
know how to search for her phenotype!
Get some info from good sites or other therians on the d-board here.
Not every one is lucky enough to know their animal side at once!
Hey.. chances are you ALSO might not b a were at all.
-Don't get into it just 'cause you find it cool at the moment!
Hope I helped ;)

Clear your mind,
Feel the animal within
Picture a thick mist all around you
Then focus on the animal in your soul and let it come from the mist and into the light.
Whatever animal you see there is a manifestation of your soul and you’re animal.
Mine was an owl and many here seem to have the soul of a wolf but don’t let the fact that this is werewolf.com keep you from realizing your true animal let it be what it is. I believe there are many people out there with a connection to an animal but they just don’t realize there are more than werewolves.
