you'll have to excuse me if I'm blundering around here, until I came to this site I'd never heard of therianthropy, *still not exactly sure what it is* and it seems to be the identifying of oneself with the animal you most identify with. I'm just curious as to how I'd go about figuring what mine is. when I was younger I really had a thing for cats, still do, but mostly its for canines now so, I'm just wondering if anyone here can help or if anyone has any sites which could help me figure out what my animal is.

i put up a few sites where you could find out about therianthrope on another thread that you had started. so sicne im board, i'll just post them again here.

one thing i can tell you now is that, the only way for you to find out the "animal inside" is to soul search. which in short is basically just meditating. it can take up to years to truely find out what you really are. and it doesnt take a few days. you cant just meditate for three to four days and know what you are, perhaps a faint idea, but not truelly know what you are.
no one else can tell you what "animal" you have inside. only you can tell.
and i read once something that i really liked. and i think most newbs should know it. soul searching is a great way to understand your mind and body more than what you think you already know. if at the end of your "spiritual quest" you find out that your not an "animal" then you shouldnt feel sad or whatever, at least you found out most about your "soul" then what you did before.
or something along those lines. hopefully you understand.

I'd like to add one more thing to the previous post: Not everyone has an inner animal. There is absolutely nothing wrong with not being a therianthrope; in fact, I think it would make life a lot easier at times. Unless you feel that you are an animal in some way other than physically (as opposed to "identifying with" or "feeling connected to" a species), you probably aren't a therian.
Btw, this applies to all newcomers to the community. I'm not targeting the original poster.

Therianthropy is a personal thing, articles online help you to understand what it's all about but to find your 'inner animal' it's true you need a lot of soul searching. Some people need to do more than others, make sure you don't just follow the trend of what other people say they are that just leads to presumptions. I myself just presummed that my inner animal was a wolf and left it as that. In my mind I wasn't and that's just left me with more soul searching left to do. Meditation, self-hypnosis, things like that can help but make sure you avoid things that you don't think are suitable. I personally wouldn't go out and drink from a wolf's pawprint but things like that are also on the web. I wish I be of more help but I'm still doing my soul searching myself. In a few years I will probably have more answers.
Good luck on your searching :)
Hey, take a good look at your normal everyday habbits like what you do when your angry or happy. There is a ton of meditation involved if you don't know by an early age as I did (but has a friend that didn't). usally you can match yourself rather quick as long as thats all your focusing on.

I think that usually, your animal is the one that finds you. When your mind sends out the message that you are looking for your animal, the animal spirits hear your call, and if they like your "vibe" per-say, they come to you.

I growl when I'm angry? but dosen't everyone do that?
I do agree that an animal\creature that you most relate with thends to be the on that means the most to you in a spiritual way. If you aspire to be a bear, do you aspire to be strong? Do you like freedom? Do you relate to an eagle? Heck, do you relate with a Lizard? Do you like lying in the sun? Running? Swimming? It dosen't have to be about the way you move. It could be about the way you dress or comb your hair. What themes do you creae along, what kind of situation\people\are as catch your eye. What do you dream of? What kind of smells do you like?
Just think about yourself.
And then do what everyone else said and go SoulSearching.

What is your inner animal? Look at yourself, find lots of traits and write them down on paper. Everything. To use myself as a sample:
Defensive
Not easily angered but that changes big fast
Love moderate groupings of family and friends
Hate big crowds
Shy around strangers
Fiercely defensive for family and friends
Strategic
Love to lead, but can be a follower
Like organization of leadership
Finds the moon relaxing
*yada yada, you get the idea*
What animal does this pest describe? Wolves, of course. Upon all this, I love wolves an unhealthy amount. Put it all together, find an animal. I've found that people's inner animal (or were condition, as I like to call it) are there favorite animal, as existing (or sometimes stereotyped) traits and quirks of the animal seem to pass into you without you knowing it. It's a gradual process, and if you once liked cats and now wolves, it may take time to develop.
BTW, I jumped straight to replying without reading the other replies.

Whatever feels natural. What you might be always thinking about in the back of your mind. Maybe an animal that you loved when you were little. An animal that you took one look at and just said... "WOW!" I caught myself drawing dragons a lot for no reason at all and they looked different from the dragons portrayed everywhere. I discovered I was a dragon shifter. But it eventually changed to wolf. Well, not "changed"... It just kind of came into the foreground. My dragon side is still there, but in the background of my wolfiness, I guess.

Dude, sorry to point this out, but this thread has been dead for close to a year. The starting posters has likely already figured out his own answers. In the future, check to make sure the 'age' of a thread, and if it's over a few months, it might be time to make a new one, if you feel the information is important enough.
Don't revive dead threads, please.
