Lycanthropy is the direct definition of having a tie with the wolf, either mentally, be it psychological or spiritual, or physical.
Therianthropy is having that tie with any beast.
So, all Lycanthopes are Therianthropes.
But, of course, it is also defined by the were community, as lycanthropes being ones who think they change physically, and therianthropes are the spiritual weres.
Either way. We're all nutters on two legs.

Lycanthropy is a subdivision of zooanthropic paranoid schizophrenia. It's a mental illness in which is person believes that they can turn themself into a wolf.
Therianthropy is a sort of umbrella term for spiritual therianthropy. It's a school of thought that stresses a subjects personal connection to the nature of a particular animal. Therianthropy really has no definition and works on a number of levels from person to person.

`Therianthropy: The condition of being both animal and human. Similiar to 'lycanthropy,' except that it refers to any and all animals, and not just wolves.
Lycanthropy: The power of becoming a wolf or of turning a human being into a wolf; the belief in werewolves. From the Greek: it is said that King Lycaon was the first werewolf.'

Lycanthropy is a mental condition in witch the effected thinks they "ARE" a wolf and has no human emotional corrispondance, they act like a wolf and don't understand that they are in fact human.
*Taken from the first deffinition*
Therianthropy is some one who identifies with an animal in a "Spiritual" manner, many seeing it as there totem animal and other such believes.
I will take this a step further..
Wereism (That of witch of beeing half human and half animal) is where some one believes they are both man and animal wether they can shapeshift or any other form of shifting if they infact shift or they are in a as is state.

It is difficult to come by one precise definition, seeing as every dictionary you look at has a whole different definition all together. AS far as I've read;
Lycanthrope; mental illness in which one sees him or herself as a wolf and no realization that they are human.
Theriantrope; a spiritual sense of being both animal and human.

Ohhh. Well then if it's a 'mental' illness then how come I have physical evidence?

Well I'll put it like this. How many other people do you know of that have padded feet, sharp teeth with enlarged canines, very good hearing, a howl and bark that is sounds like a wolf, wears summer clothes (as in a t-shirt and shorts) in freezing cold temperatures, and has alert senses (I can sense when someone is about to attack me).
I think this is enough proof but I have more if it is needed. Any other explination :p

Hmm well, i must have what you have. I'd say I have a good deal of those traits, but I can't say that it really does prove anything other than what it proves on the surface: ie, that you have those traits. I'm sure there are others who have those traits, but do not believe themselves to be wolves. Erm... hmm I don't mean to be a naysayer. I'm not sure which side i mean to take here... but to help you out: I have pads on my hands (but that's from mucking stalls), Awesome hearing, a great howl, and I as well can go in shirts and shorts for very long into the fall season. I can't say I walk around in shorts in -5 degrees weather, but I've been known to wear short sleeves in 50 degrees weather, and everyone usualy comments on me having to be cold, to which I say "no". Then again, they just think I have good circulation ;)
But, i don't know if it proves that I really should have been a wolf/am a wolf... or anything like that. It could be that I want to be a wolf so badly, that I *Find* these things in my personality. *shrugs* what exactly AM i trying to say?!

When I said I can go around like that I literally meant freezing temperatures as in thirty but no less than that. Iv'e come to the conclusion that I'm not a complete human but not anything like a werewolf. Hard to say for sure what I am. Though I will say this. A few nights ago me and one of my friends were talking about supernatural stuff. He said that about once every month he had a dream about being a werewolf. I asked him if he ever had a dream where there was a werewolf other than him that had a hour glass on it's hand or somewhere. He said yes. My symbol is an hour glass and I never told him about it being my symbol until then. I think it scared him. Also sometimes I will wake up with scratch marks on the side of my face or arms that look like claws scratched me. That's why I don't think I'm completly human. Any advice on what I am?

hhmmmm. I dunno, I still have my doubts. But there's one other trait that's a dead giveaway. Werewolves have extremely smooth tongues, that aren't likely to stick to cold metal. So, next time you're out in those literally freezing temperatures, try licking a stop sign or something and get someone to take a pic.
Wolf-Bone how oblivious do you really think people are? * walks off laughing *

What, like you wouldn't like to see a pic of a guy with his tongue stuck to a pole in the fall? We could make a mock-news article out of it with the headline reading "Score one for the troo weres".

Okay 2 things you missed.
1. I did NOT say I was a werewolf.
2. I said I was a therianthrope.
They are different from werewolves cause were's shift therian's don't.

You are not lycanthropic. If you were you would literally spend all day on all fours, bark, and pretend to be a wolf 24/7.
You are a therianthrope, because you believe you are connected to a type of animal.
Even physical shapeshifters would be therianthropes.
Lycanthropy refers only to the mental disease, and applies only to those who have that mental disease.
Therianthropy is to the real werecreatures, whether spiritually or physically connected.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I edited my post to say that. I had the definition for the two mixed up.
