Much as the title implies, list and discuss some of the best games released this year. Of course, the year isn't over either and there are a few games yet to be released so share the games you're excited to see on store shelves.

Personally, I'm waiting for Dragon Age: Origins. I believe that the following video speaks for itself.

I know I've plugged this game over and over again, and I've even beaten the game 100% with trophies/achievements, but I cannot say enough about how great of a game Arkham Asylum was.

This game really served as a wake up call to game developers who've made mediocre super hero based video games in the past.

I would have been disappointed if you hadn't mentioned that game here

Also, it slipped my mind when posting this, but Dawn of War II was one of the most intensive games I've played this year. You take control of a Force Commander and with three of your four squadrons (Assault, Tactical, Devastator, and Scout Squads) battle across several planets. The game plays as a blend of RTS and RPG. With the standard array of xp gaining methods, the Force Commander and Squad Leaders can level to increase their basic stats as well as gain abilities. As an example, when leveled high enough, the Force Commander gains this very awesome ability called "Orbital Bombardment."

The tactics in the game are a great improvement over previous games in the series. Much of the landscape is destructible and virtually anything that sticks up above the ground can give a cover bonus. Conversely however, going through murky or low-lying terrain has a cover penalty, making you much more likely to get killed. All in all the cover system is one of the more innovative things in the game for the sheer magnitude of what it entails.

Also in a manner similar to Warcraft III, at times you can randomly find armor, weapons, or other useful items in game that would aid the Force Commander or the Squad Leaders. This allows for fine tuning unit roles to whatever particular mission you are about to embark on.

My only disappointment for the game is that the system requirements are so high my comp can barely play it on lowest settings

It does? I was rather unimpressed. The visuals aren't great and the action hardly looks ground breaking. What's so good about it? I'm genuinely asking out of interest because I like games that use fantasy but I see this and I'm just thinking "Lord of the Rings". What does it bring to the plate? Never heard of the series or anything.
